Holy cajoli, they knocked out A LOT of projects. That really blows. As much as the Exo-Suit impresses, I really wanted the Minishops, Galaxy Patrol, and Portal sets. Oh well.

Posted (edited)

Looking at what was rejected I think I can see why most of em were rejected.

Portals probably got rejected either because of the need for too many new designs (e.g. printed/stickered parts or colors for existing parts that aren't in current production or even new molds) or because the game isn't popular enough with the target audience for LEGO and for LEGO Cuusoo sets. (or possibly because the licensing couldn't be figured out)

Purdue Pete almost certainly got rejected simply because its not popular/well known enough. How many people here have heard of him other than maybe as a vague association with Purdue University?

Space Troopers was nice, probably would have bought it if it became a set. But I suspect it came down to potential popularity and also the question of whether the set would have conflicted with existing "space" sets (both the licensed Star Wars product and non-licensed sets like Galaxy Patrol)

The android guy, like Purdue Pete probably just isn't popular enough (yes it might sell to Android fans or Google fans or to AFOLs who want one as a lime green parts pack but not very much to the core target audience of LEGO and Cuusoo products).

Zelda, like the last one, was most likely rejected on the grounds that its not possible to create a Zelda fig that is true to the game series without creating a new mold for the hair/hat (one that is unlikely to be created for or useful in any other theme or set). Or possibly (as was speculated last time) LEGO can't get the rights to Zelda because someone else has them.

Mini Shop Series possibly hit licensing issues or maybe popularity/marketability (or maybe the size was an issue)

Batman Tumbler seems obvious, namely the fact that LEGO currently make and sell a Batman tumbler set (among other Batman sets) so the Cuusoo sets would have directly competed with it. (plus, like Star Wars, there may be license issues that prevent them from making Cuusoo sets)

League Of Legends is probably just not popular enough (like Purdue Pete or Portals)

Great to see the exo-suit winning though, shows that not all Cuusoo proposals need to be based off licensed or existing properties in order to win and will be an interesting testcase to see just how LEGO changes the design when its made into a set (since unlike every other set to date there is no prototype, its a pure LEGO design). If the set is as good as the prototype and sold for the right price, it might well become the second Cuusoo set I buy having bought the BTTF set recently.

Great also to see that the Land Rover might get made, its a great looking Technic model plus its a Ute (pickup truck for those who dont know Aussie slang) and I dont think LEGO have done one of those in Technic as a "flagship" sized set before. (as far as I know they haven't anyway) so a proper pickup truck with a clearly defined rear tray would be cool to see.

As for the next review, I hope they dont reject the Ghostbusters designs on the grounds that the BTTF set already exists and hence the GB set would be competing with it and would split the market too much, having gotten the second best movie car of all time made into a LEGO set, all I need now is the greatest movie car of all time :)

finally, the exo-suit! the first cuusoo project that didn't based on existing property. and not to mention, the first lego mech utilizing the most SNOT technique and greebles, assuming the final product is close to the original one.

Wow - this is pretty big news. What I like is that once a set is made...theoretically we can see sets that spin off of that (Minecraft).

I'm curious as to how they will change the design to fit mass production and make it available. I'm excited to see how this pans out.

I'm upset for HJ media - Even though they were probably a little close to the Galaxy Squad in terms of timing, the work was undeniably good. I'm big fans of the work they do in 3D.

Maybe their next line "Hyperborea" will do well - http://lego.cuusoo.com/ideas/view/41218 it certainly needs supporters!

So good to see that CUUSOO made the smart decision and skipped all the licensed ideas in favour of the fan-made exo-suit. I had almost lost hope in CUUSOO as a project, but now I might be paying a bit more attention to it. Still, the amount of unoriginal licensed ideas is way too high.

It's rather annoying that LEGO doesn't provide any direct reason why the projects were rejected. That said, the exo-suit looks rather cool. But after looking at all the grey from the BTTF set, I wish the exo-suit had a bit more color. I can imagine colorful armor pieces being attached to the suit like a merging of the minifig+bionicle universe. Since this is not a licensed set, I wonder if they will use a non-flesh colored minifigure (my preference).

Great news there is still a hope on Land Rover. It is quite big, so I imagine no new add-ons would be made. However the current design is a good base for mods.

I would imagine that the exo-suit would need some major changes from the original to make it legal.

I think if the Land Rover would happen, it would get a major cut in parts and functions just to appeal to fans of Land Rover. They said that the Thinking with Portals project would be considered last review and it was denied.

I'd buy the Land Rover. I'm not too crazy about mechs but the approved one looks interesting, I'll be watching to see what the final product looks like.

mmm, another cuusoo project I won't be buying, does not rock my boat, I'd really hoped those shops would have got through, but I guess Lego don't want to pay the royalties

Roll on the next review, Go Ghostbusters :-)

I actually wanted the exo-suit the most out of all the sets reviewed. It just seems like a perfect opportunity to get a challenging build without spending a lot of money.

On another note, it looks like google isn't the only company with a slide in it's headquarters.

Seeing that the mini shops didn't pass, I have lost all hope for Cuusoo.....I'll let my 27 projects sit there and collect dust. :sadnew:

They couldn't even produce a Lego store....their own IP, which means only odd-ball geek stuff will be produced.....no typical Lego themed items (classic town, castle, & space).

I promised to my supporters on Cuusoo I would update some of my projects which I will do, but I will not post any totally new designs.....like I wrote above I've lost all hope for Cuusoo. :sadnew:

Yes. All of my yes. I love the look of that thing. I want, like, five of them.

Though it is sad that some of the others didn't make it. But I'm happy with the Exo Suit.

A Lego store from Lego has already been done.

I think that exo suit is another fan model, that is going to be screwed up.Like BTTF delorean, that not resemble iconic movie car at any circumstances.

But I hope that exo suit set will prove me wrong.

The Exo Suit and Space Troopers projects were the ones I was the most interested in, though I was worried about Space Troopers conflicting with Galaxy Squad. Ah well... Glad to see the Exo Suit made it. Now, can we get some more support for Steamrod and Hyperborea?

I entertained the idea that LEGO will come out with a LEGO store modular building since they are currently seeding the populace with the free LEGO employee minifig, but I kind of doubt it will happen. The LEGO store doesn't fit the 'era' of the current modular buildings and a standalone product will have less market potential.

Certainly the arms will need to be re-designed since the current implementation has single-stud connections that will come apart if you try to pose it.

I figure that out too, but i think there will not be problem in this, there are plenty new joints for lego creator.

Out of all the projects in the video, I liked the exo suit the most. It's an original (ie non-licensed) idea, and if done right can be a very original and unique model. I hope they include a classic spaceman with it, like the cuusoo project shows. It will have to be "fixed" since I see illegal connections in the model, but hopefully they keep the same heavily greebled look. I wouldn't mind a little splash of color in it too.

While I can understand LEGO's move on this (kids like mechs and it doesn't require a license), I would've loved some Zelda or Portal sets. They would've introduced some cool new prints and molds. Oh well...

I'm gonna wait until I see the LEGO Official design for this Cuusoo set.

A really good use for it is to modify the exo-suit into resembling Iron Monger from the first Iron Man film in 2008. The set would make a good head start to adding that Marvel villain to my LEGO Marvel Superhero collection.
