If you substitute the full bush at the end with a 1/2 bush and a thin 1x2 liftarm and then turned around the 3 axle with sud,you could make the 8 axle with stop a sub step with all the connecters added.

This would make life easier when building the model.

Good idea. Initially I did not think so, but the more I looked at the thing spinning in LDView, the more I grew into your idea. When placing this part you would still need to get an axle (of the 24t gear) into the hole and only then put the connectors onto the pins, but that would work out without too much stress on the parts.

I make a branch :-)

Edit: I made the branch, now in V3B for the time being.

Colored green for the right part and dark turquoise for the left part.

Looking at it, it was really a good idea, making the "8L w. stop assembly" really easy. Inserting it onto the axle of the 24t gear in a rotated position, moving it in and rotating it down to snap on the pin and the axle looks to be easy

Great, good to see that worked out well.

Is there any thing else that needs done?

Still a bit tricky to build and to properly show in BIs, but much better. I guess these BIs will not be for Technic builders newbies anyway ;)

Build one from the stepped mpd before creating BIs...

I think we are pretty well on track.

Base

- the steps are pretty fine as they are now

- some need to be made into a sub to reduce the overall steps

- a few placement arrows are necessary to accommodate the pushing in of axles

Front Gearbox:

- I re-did the stepping to make the assembly easier

- it is still somehow "wobbly" as the counterpart to fix them all (the 15L Beam) is only added in the end.

- also needs some (a ton of) subs to make life easier in my opinion

Table:

- is done has a good stepping

- it is a sub-model of the motor assembly now to make mounting easier without bending stuff

- the beams to fix it to the motor assembly are now part of the motor assembly for a logical flow.

Motor Assembly:

- some Axle Pins needs to be put in the proper order (i.e. like LEGO builds: first in the axle hole the in the pin-hole) or do you care?

Panel (operation)

- This needs a bit more fine-tunig, breaking down some of the steps (no big deal)

- Probably put some of the parts into submodels

Arms

- I am fine with them

Platter

- Stepping is good

- some steps need to be put into the correct order, minor Cahnge

- subs are ok

- some parts are a bit out of place (e.g. the rubber things)

I will have uploaded V4 which reflects the status listed above.

I would continue the base and the front-gearbox

For LPub:

- Any special wishes for the fonts, colors, background pics, © notices etc?

- PM me or comment here...

Well, for the LPub, it would be nice to note everyone who helped with making the instructions :classic: And of course PG15 himself!

For a background, I would go for something this colour: RGB: 180,210,227

I like the whole collaboration here. Never knew that it was that easy to work together with LDraw

Some impressive team work here, cant wait to start building.

I have little suggestion, white BG version of instructions for printing as ink is so expensive.

I agree with JM1971, a white background is best for those who want to print BIs.

For what it is worth, here is the LPub setup used for EV3 bonus models BIs:

0 !LPUB CALLOUT INSTANCE_COUNT FONT GLOBAL "Arial,18,-1,5,75,0,0,0,0,0"
0 !LPUB PAGE DISPLAY_PAGE_NUMBER GLOBAL FALSE
0 !LPUB RESOLUTION GLOBAL 118 DPI
0 !LPUB PLI ANNOTATE FONT GLOBAL "Arial,18,-1,5,75,1,0,0,0,0"
0 !LPUB PLI ANNOTATE FONT_COLOR GLOBAL "#e50000"
0 !LPUB PLI INSTANCE_COUNT FONT GLOBAL "Arial,16,-1,5,75,0,0,0,0,0"
0 !LPUB PLI BACKGROUND GLOBAL COLOR "#cae8ff"
0 !LPUB PLI BORDER GLOBAL ROUND Black 0.02 15 MARGINS 0.05 0.05
0 !LPUB CALLOUT BORDER GLOBAL ROUND #aa0000 0.02 10 MARGINS 0.1 0.1
0 !LPUB CALLOUT BACKGROUND GLOBAL COLOR "#ffffc4"

For the record, page size used in EV3 BIs is pretty weird (very wide and thin) to be able to be embedded in EV3 software used on wide screen.

This model beeing wider than tall, I suggest a landscape orientation.

While I certainly applaud the collective effort and dedication, I still do not 'get' it ... I was able to build the whole thing simply from the LXF model (it took about 3 hours). So, what is so special about making building instructions? Is it the challenge/joy or something else?

Getting a buzz from doing something thats difficult is one reason but its better to build from a well thought out procedure, also some might like to work from printouts.

Thank you, that makes perfect sense ... There are times I find it difficult to build from LDD as well, and PDF instructions on an iPad are more practical.

I'm so pleased the "Team" has decided to make instructions. There's no way I could make something this complicated without. I don't want/need the new Lego method of one piece at a time, but I do need a bit more detail, and a paper copy is much easier to work from. Also, having it on ReBrickable with an inventory will tell me if I have enough parts to even think about it. This type of model is so interesting, and best of all, there are no wheels. So, well done to PG52 for the original design and everyone else involved.

I second the request for a white background - saves ink.

I agree fully and, again, was in no way criticizing the collective effort and the goal behind it ... I too find it easier to build from instructions as well, but often seeing the whole assembly in LDD makes it easy to think of tweaks/improvements and that, you cannot get from a 'step-by-step' PDF file. Perhaps most importantly, building from LDD is at times rather 'challenging' and that's how some of us (i.e., I) get their 'buzz'. Again, I truly applaud the collective effort to make instructions for this set and thus, make it available to a larger audience. Cheers, and ... happy building. Edited by DrJB

Regarding the instructions, I made a prototype cover page. Here's a quick image. Did I forgot to mention someone? Any suggestions? :classic:

Btw, if we need a tester for the instructions, I can test them, but preferably this weekend :classic:

Wow, it does look very good !

However, the BS gallery isn't available anymore.

Just one thing on the cover page, my pseudo is "PG52" and not "PG15" ;)

Whoops, a little mistake. I'll correct it

Pro job all around.

Something I keep meaning to ask, the tilt on the table I take it works better than being flat, maybe something to do with pens?

Posted

V8 is complete.

Can someone check the beam that is running underneath the whole thing which connects the table sub with the main base?

I have a 15 long beam running through the table sub.

Changes made:

Stepped table base

Stepped tabe

Stepped table-motor

Added turntable sub

Added motor sub

Well, it looks good to me so far. Great work Alasdair (and the other people of course)

Who's actually going to do the LPub? If there isn't anybody yet, I can do it if needed.
