freakwave Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 (edited) Ups, we moved to the second page! @DrJB: Thanks for the full screenshot. Here's V12 with part of the LPUB framework applied. my be you need the Font "Bradley Hand ITC" installed (Step numbers) Also a sample Pic in my BS-folder May be a watermark like a completed spirograph picture could be added, what do you think? Alasdair Ryan Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 I think the arrows that are used to shop were sub models go should be a stronger color, you can't see a white arrow on a white background very well. Some other fixes needed.... You have a green bush on step 45 p34. The universal joint on page 44 needs to be exchanged. What is up with motor-base sub 1 model on page 45? Assembly arrows missing on page 56? Rota step missing on page 66? Blank page on p100. "buffer axles" getting called out in arm sub model. Rota step missing on p109. Quote
freakwave Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 - Green Bush is changed to LBG - P-44 u-joint. I need to make a Ignore statement - P-45: I just took the base over from your V10, that's how the steps were. I can move them no issue - P-56 / P-66 can you add them? - P-100 The blank Page issue is due due the buffer exchange being done last togehter with a NOSTEP, LPUB is bit sensitive here. I had this before, need to try. - "buffer axles" Screenshot please, I don't know what you mean. Quote
Alasdair Ryan Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 (edited) - "buffer axles" Screenshot please, I don't know what you mean. there is a error in the buffer exchange where it is calling out the "buffered" axle 2. - P-45: I just took the base over from your V10, that's how the steps were. I can move them no issue There is a sub model that is not getting called out, check the sub models in MLcad. I had added the arrows and rota set in my latest update, try replacing the whole sub model. legolijntje Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 The instructions look good, except the step numbers. I don't really like the font. And, now it doesn't match the cover But of course it's a personal opinion. Nice work everyone, with those call-outs, sub models, arrows etc  Quote

legolijntje Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 I've made a complete Brickstore parts list, which you can download here, but it would be better to include in a .zip with the final instructions. I've corrected all errors, including the green bush, the LDraw-Bricklink number differences etc. I'll build the Spirograph tonight/tomorrow. It's a win-win, I have a nice model and I can check the instrctions, although I don't think there will be many errors left . I can't wait to see it in action Btw, I'm wondering if the model will be placed on Rebrickable? If so, who's going to do that? PG52 himself, or someone else? EDIT: [...] - P-100 The blank Page issue is due due the buffer exchange being done last togehter with a NOSTEP, LPUB is bit sensitive here. I had this before, need to try. [...] I can remove pages from the final pdf, but it has to be the last page, otherwise the page numbering will be screwed up at the end. Another EDIT: I just realized something: I don't know if the ghost parts are also in the parts list? Otherwise, I should make one from the original file without any steps, or are there any parts added? And is it correct that the model includes 2 black 43093? Because they are very rare Quote
freakwave Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 (edited) The instructions look good, except the step numbers. I don't really like the font. Oohhh, I was so happy to have found a font that would somehow represent the nice lines drawn by this machine... What do you prefer? I would like to use another one than boring Arial :-) Looking for something light Edited November 16, 2013 by freakwave Quote
Philo Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 It looks really excellent! - The arrows of the same color as the callout box is a nice touch, but as mentionned by Alasdair, maybe they don't show enough on white background? - I am not so fan either of step number font, but I can live with this ;) - Speaking of font, I have a problem here: all fonts are significantly bigger when I render the buildings instructions here (about 50% bigger). Because of this, some pages do not fit paper area. I think it might be caused by some Windows font size setting issue on my machine, does anybody has a hint? - Was the blank page 100 issue corrected? I have no problem here!?! - I've got a LDraw pencil model, available here, maybe it could be added at last step? Quote
Alasdair Ryan Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 If legolijntje has fixed the all the errors then he should add the pencil, would that need rubber bands around it? Also we have not included any rubber bands to the file. Quote
PG52 Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 Wow, the instructions look really excellent ! I'm not registered on Rebrickable, do you think I should register and post or it's not a problem if someone else posts them ? Quote
legolijntje Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 Wow, the instructions look really excellent ! I'm not registered on Rebrickable, do you think I should register and post or it's not a problem if someone else posts them ? Well, it's not a problem if someone else places it. I've placed a bunch of MOCs for someone else too, the original builder can be credited. But if you want to place it yourself when it's finished, feel free to do so, it's your moc Quote
legolijntje Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 Here's a wip photo. I'm making notes of the errors I encounter in the instructions and the things that can be better. But they look very, very good already It's an interesting build. It's good for the variety, it's something else than vehicles. Quote
Kumbbl Posted November 17, 2013 Posted November 17, 2013 Here's V12 with part of the LPUB framework applied. my be you need the Font "Bradley Hand ITC" installed (Step numbers) Also a sample Pic in my BS-folder maybe a very dump question but i'm not really firm with the Lego-CAD software.... when i open V12 in LDView then i can see the complete Spirograph... what must i do to get this setp-by-step-instructions like this sample-Pic?? Can they be generated or is there to do something "more"? as i said, probably very foolish my question.... Quote
Kumbbl Posted November 17, 2013 Posted November 17, 2013 Load the file in Lpub. thank you - can anybody recommend a good tutorial? Quote
Alasdair Ryan Posted November 17, 2013 Posted November 17, 2013 Here is one. First download Lpub, then copy all the data from the instruction file into notepad (you may need to rename the file to: V12.mpd) Quote

Alasdair Ryan Posted November 17, 2013 Posted November 17, 2013 Huh? You can just open the .mpd in LPub, why should anyone copy anything? Yes if every thing is working as it should..... I have asked windows 8 to read l3b files as text docs, ldr files open with Ldview, lxf files displays blank white boxes (they do open) ,Dat files opens in notepad and lastly any thing with .mpd at the end opens Lpub. PG52 Posted November 17, 2013 Posted November 17, 2013 Well, so you can place it, it's my MOC but you Legolijntje, Alasdair, Philo, Freakwave made the instructions, I didn't help a lot... Quote

Well, ok, I'll place it when it's finished if everyone agrees? Anyway, I finished buildin the model. It looks and works great. I made a list of notes while building, which you can read here. Red means it's best to really fix those, underlined is less important and normal text is only for the perfectionists If something is unclear, or nobody can understand it (which is very likely ), please ask. I will also make a page to add at the end of the final pdf, which gives some advice how to use it etc. And I will fix my parts list, which includes some errors. Quote
Alasdair Ryan Posted November 17, 2013 Posted November 17, 2013 (edited) Ok what file are you working from? I will update from that file. Edited November 17, 2013 by Alasdair Ryan Quote
Kumbbl Posted November 17, 2013 Posted November 17, 2013 thank you - can anybody recommend a good tutorial? i now managed to generate the instructions with LPub - thank for the hint. BUT: What is the reason for some complete blank pages and some pages where is displayed only a part-list for the step X but nothing else (i.e. nothing how to build step X)? Quote
