Hive Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 Kingdoms may be long gone, but I refuse to let go! ...so I did a small rebuild of one of the new sets with the much inferior dragon knights: Comparison shot: Is it better? Worse? The same? My older adventures into Kingdoms-fications: http://www.eurobrick...ve#entry1224670 http://www.eurobrick...ve#entry1339846 Quote
mpoh98 Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 I love the idea! I think it is about the same, but still, fantastic idea! I agree though that the green dragon is way better. Quote
The_Cook Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 Curse you, and the dragon(s) you rode in on! You've preempted one of my Troll Town models... I think that the Dark Green looks more menacing that this year's red. I know people were dismissive of it initially but I think that the Dragon Mountain is the best set of this castle wave just because it's a unique structure compared to the things like the castle which are just rehashes of the tried and tested square castle setup that they've been doing for years. Your build is a lot more original though, and I love the detail with the chain to control the beast with. I think that the Dark Green looks more menacing that this year's red. I agree on both accounts. While it's not exactly an oustanding set, it's definately the most interesting of the wave for me - the only one with some originality. Quote
ZCerberus Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 It's hard to judge with the harshness of the flash, but I think simply recoloring the set doesn't really give us an idea of what this set would be as a kingdoms set- I think some of the design should change as well. Any ideas on changing up any of the design outside of the colors to make it fit into the kingdoms... umm... kingdom? Quote
Hive Posted October 29, 2013 Author Posted October 29, 2013 It's hard to judge with the harshness of the flash, Yeah, sorry... but I had to take the pics with my phone. but I think simply recoloring the set doesn't really give us an idea of what this set would be as a kingdoms set- I think some of the design should change as well.Any ideas on changing up any of the design outside of the colors to make it fit into the kingdoms... umm... kingdom? I see what you mean, but I didn't want to make them too different - as I felt it would then be harder to compare them directly. There are a few differences, but they are very subtle. Quote
AmperZand Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 I really like Dragon Mountain - it's going to be one of the highlights of my collection. Apart from the catapults (that never impressed me in Lego) and the open access from the front and exposed treasure chest on the left of the structure (which I modded to create a secret entrance), this is a classic set. As for the recolouring, with respect, I prefer the red & black colour scheme. Somehow red and black are more sinister than dark green. And I really don't like dragons wearing armour. Dragons are supposed to have impenetrable hides as it is, so no need for armour. Besides, armour is heavy and would make flying harder. Amps Quote
ZCerberus Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 So we need a "turn a current set into another castle theme set" contest? Quote
Hive Posted October 29, 2013 Author Posted October 29, 2013 So we need a "turn a current set into another castle them set" contest? That would be really cool, I bet we'd see a lot more imaginative and innovative designs than my own. Quote
