Hobbythom Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 Hey everyone! I am currently working on my second modular cornerblock. I wanted to ask your advice regarding the roofs on two of the buildings. The first has a roof but I am not sure if I am allready happy with it. Seems like something is missing. What do you guys think? Wip cornerblock 2 pie shop For the second building I just can't make up my mind about which way to go. Flat roof, pointy or something in between. Again, advice or ideas are welcome! Wip cornerblock 2 perfume Again, thanks for looking! Hobbythom Quote
lightningtiger Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 Okay, the first one......the roof I would say doesn't flow right as compared to the one next door. The second building.....go flat roof, your design is very Art Deco and a flat roof would suit it. Quote
eurotrash Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 ......the roof I would say doesn't flow right as compared to the one next door On the first one I'm going to disagree with you LT. I like the contrast between the two - very European. But with a building that age you might consider adding a Chimney. (I've also got a soft spot for TV aerials at the moment ) As for the second one, I say keep it flat, but you might think about a Cornice to give the roof some separation from the facade and as for the top of the roof how about an AC unit or two, some solar panels (and, dare I suggest it, another TV aerial). I like what you've done! Quote
Jan Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 On the first building I would probably make the left and biggest roofwindow even more important, maybe just like a smaller repetition af the left window of the storey below. (window 6 bricks high instead of 8), and with a flat roof, Whats left of the roof on the right of that important roofwindow, i would just keep plain without any windows, or if you really want a window there just keep it in the surface and color of the roof. For the second building I agree with the flat roof. Just an idea http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/02/Den_Haag_-_Hoogstraat_30_v1.JPG succes Quote
Withacee Posted November 1, 2013 Posted November 1, 2013 I agree with the flat second one as well. Maybe a bit more of an edge that sticks out towards the front. Ask Kristel, she knows all about flat roofs :o) As for the first one, it looks slightly jagged. Have a look at Lego's Green grocer, maybe, for inspiration? By the way, I love the way the pink and yellow awning clashes magnificently with the red roof Keep putting those bricks together! Quote
Kristel Posted November 1, 2013 Posted November 1, 2013 These are nice looking buildings so far!! I think the roof itself on the first one is fine, but the window on the right needs something above it just to frame it a little better. I think that's the 'missing' bit - maybe a small overhang or awning of some sort? I would definitely go with a flat roof on the second one. Quote
Bricknblue Posted November 1, 2013 Posted November 1, 2013 The first one doesn't look right around the windows, needs something, not sure what. Maybe something dark grey or black, because the windows are just screaming too much white. Quote
Hobbythom Posted November 2, 2013 Author Posted November 2, 2013 Thanks for the advice everyone! I'll tinker around with the roof and windows of the grey building and go go with a flat roof on the sand green one! Hope to show you more soon! Quote
Jasper Joppe Geers Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 Perhaps you should put something on top of the roof. Make sure you use the studs on top in any way. :) Quote
Vincent Kessels Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 First let me say that the corner building is looking very good. I would make several changes to the first roof. I would remove the gutter on the left side and put the two windows directly above the front wall. I would also replace some of the slopes with dark red ones. A few dark red accents can make a big difference. I agree with LT on the second one. Quote
