Posted October 31, 201311 yr Greetings crew, I need info/advice regarding the black handrails on the Lego Trains. I noticed that the parts are flexible. I looked the part up on BL and there are none in the US and the few that are out there are very expensive and rare. Is there something I can use in place of this part. It does not have to be lego brand. I was going to stop at a craft store and roam the aisles looking for something similar. Thanks in advance :-)
October 31, 201311 yr I have good experiences with electricity wire used in the wall for power outlets. Its available in all sorts of colors and can be easily bent in shape.
October 31, 201311 yr I use the light sword shafts and the longer bars (sometimes cut to size). the only downside it they aren't available in a lot of colors, but for my engines I use white because it fits my paint scheme. Sal WFB, WI
October 31, 201311 yr On my homebuilt yellow Maersk loco I'm currently using dark grey track retention pins (the plastic parts that hold track together from the factory and the instructions tell you to throw away) for the long upper handrails. I was going to replace them with black '6L bar with stop ring' pieces but they look good enough as is and I haven't got round to it yet. :classic:
November 1, 201311 yr Hello: I wonder if you are looking at the right part. on Bricklink you want to look for "hose, rigid 3m" It comes in different lengths. You can always buy a longer length and cut it down. If you check the different lengths/colors you can usually find something that will work for not too much. I saw lots of black 29L for less than 2 USD available. Maybe that helps or maybe I don't understand. Cheers, Steve.
November 1, 201311 yr Author Thank you soooo much for this info! I apperantly was looking at the wrong parts and after your suggestion realized the error. I think I will try to utilize the other techniques in other locomotive builds. Thanks again
November 1, 201311 yr I think it'd be great to create a sticky with this type of information. A while back I needed to buy wheels for a train and didn't know that they actually had a part number corresponding to the entire set needed for a train's wheelbase.

There already is something like that. Have a look at the top of TrainTech http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=28418
