pihlbrick Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 The sand storm hit us pretty bad. We were caught out in the open, and with everything full of sand, not much was working. We managed to get a single local speeder cleaned and started. I was send towards a nearby farm we had spotted earlier to see if they would be able to radio for help. In a rocky area on the way I accidently ran in to an imperial FWAT (Four Wheeled Armored Transport). Since I was out of uniform I figured I would approach them, claiming to be a local farmer on the lookout for stranded droids in the storm, instead of risking they would set after me if it looked as though I was avoiding them. They had also been caught out in sand storm, and while trying to head for cover, the FWAT-pilot had hit a large rock formation damaging one of the wheels (Dammit I could just have gotten away clean). Their astromech was almost done with the repairs so luckily their were not interested in my speeder. I pointed them in the direction of my imaginary farm and promised them I would provide them with shelter and food for the night, and sped off, making sure I was well out of their reach before I turned away towards my original destination. Old version here Old version here The Speeder The FWAT - Four Wheeled Armoured Transport Cockpit open Front View Rear View With the hatch open Luckily I had all the three sets (and the extra rebel-set, but I forgot about that when sorting the parts). The only extra parts used are the base plate, the four wheels, the four two storm troopers (maybe the others are hiding inside the FWAT), their astromech and my goggles. (If you want to nit pick, my sigfig is out of uniform, and that could maybe count as extra pieces). It was fun to be somewhat limited in part selection, but I think the actual challenge here is to limit yourself, and not pile the bricks on. just because you haven't used them yet Quote
LegoFjotten Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 Great stuff! I love both the vehicles! I think you need to watch your extra part count though, 4 Stormtroopers (4 pieces each + 1 one them has a pauldron I think?), Astromech (4 pieces), 4 wheels, goggles = 26 extra pieces. Quote
BEAVeR Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 I knew that guy couldn't be trusted! Nice speeder you've got there, but you have to admit our FWAT looks much cooler and more practical! I admit that thing gets pretty hot in the sun, but black is just a plain cool hot color. Good job overall, but I think you underestimated that rock that almost killed our machine! It was way bigger! Our machines can handle that tiny rock you've depicted, but that wasn't what there was. Luckily, we had our astromech! O, and I remember the desert as a tan place, not grey. So yeah, not bad for rebel scum! Not bad at all... Quote

Ahr crap - I only read the minifig rule change halfway through, and understood, that an assembled minifig counted as one. Oh well I have a few days to kill off a few storm troopers :) Quote
Bob De Quatre Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 Nice entry But you'll have to kill 2 stormtrooper to comply with the updated rules... not that anyone will miss them Quote
MKJoshA Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 I really like the way you designed the vehicles. Definitely different from anything else created so far. Score one more for the Rebel Alliance! Nice entry But you'll have to kill 2 stormtrooper to comply with the updated rules... not that anyone will miss them I thought 1 extra minifigure counted as 1 extra part? Quote
Rook Posted November 8, 2013 Posted November 8, 2013 Nope, standard minifigure is: Hair, head, torso, & legs = 4 parts. Quote
Dapper-D2 Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 Nice concept and great use for the parts available! Quote
pihlbrick Posted November 10, 2013 Author Posted November 10, 2013 Thank you for all the nice comments. If I'm not able to take new pictures can't we all just forget about the two troopers holding up the wheel - I mean they are cannon fodder after all :) Quote
pihlbrick Posted November 11, 2013 Author Posted November 11, 2013 O, and I remember the desert as a tan place, not grey. Ehh it just seems grey, because it very rocky, stoney and almost nighttime - and the suns are having a hard time penetrating all the sand still caught in the air and atmosphere - and I don't have any tan baseplates :) Quote
Rogue Angel Posted November 12, 2013 Posted November 12, 2013 I like the speeder, and I was going the same route as the FWAT myself early on in my build. I was going to use treads instead, but I didn't have any in black. I wanted to use those 8x16 plates to make something big, but settled on my smaller tank. Good choice on the wheels for extra parts - it really sets your build apart! Quote
VaderFan2187 Posted January 18, 2017 Posted January 18, 2017 I know we're not supposed to bump threads, and so I'm sorry, but I just gotta say I love the FWAT! It is a very unique design, yet utilitarian enough that it looks like something the Empire would probably use. I saw it and thought "Wow!" The shaping is good and I like all the smooth tiles, reminiscent of the Empire's clean designs. Quote
