soccerkid6 Posted November 11, 2013 Author Posted November 11, 2013 When someone asks for this many certifications in one single build, I think the standards should be set quite high. You have used more than one technique for rounded towers, a multitude of snow techniques creating a very believable snowy environment, done a splendid job with sideways rocks AND managed to build a nice interior in the keep. Therefore I cannot do anything else than write +1 and great work on all those subjects! Thanks Gideon, I definitely won't ask for four certifications in one build very often, but with all the time and effort I'd put into this I thought it deserved them (I could easily build 4-6 smaller builds in the time it took me to do this). In most castles, they're a few centimetres wider than the width of a bow (not tip to tip length, side to side when held vertically). Pretty hard to fit through, you'd have to be unarmoured, and pretty thin, not ideal for a soldier attacking a castle. Especially if there's an archer in there to dissuade you. Hell, a mere spearman or swordsman could defend that gap for hours. Yeah, after I thought about it a bit it made sense to to have arrow slits on the first floor. As you said they could easily be defended and it lets the defenders bring more firepower into play at one time. Wooo! Finally! I have been looking forward to this build for a while now. Awesome work! I love the detailed interiors, and the chicken coop looked perfect. Nice research! I had the same concern as Wedge, I thought it be silly to have arrow slits and windows at lower levels, as I guess if they are small enough, it can't really do any harm. I'm glad you like the finished MOC This is awesome! Great work Thanks! Quote
mrcp6d Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 Nice to see a big one from you SK! Even better that's so well done. It's a shame though that the compact nature of the castle makes it hard to see the interior details. I'd like to see some more of that blue house! Quote
NiceMarmot Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 Wow, this is amazing! So many great details. Very cool design also - love the skewed building right of the main gate. Yesterday I forgot to ask for UoP DoH certification, so I'd like to receive credit for round walls and towers (Architecture), snow and ice (Landscape Design), sideways rocks (Landscape Design), and interior design (General Building) = 4 credits Definitely +1 for round walls, snow and ice, and interior design. Will have to look at the sideways rocks a bit more. Hard for me to see right now, as the sun is shining directly in my window... Looks like a lot of SNOT rock work. I was probably expecting something more like this for sideways rocks, but am definitely open to alternatives. You probably could have gotten another half dozen certifications had the rules allowed it! Quote

Here's another picture of the blue house (and I may even take a few more as I've taken apart a lot of the castle around it... And the interior of the house: Wow, this is amazing! I like the rough effect the studs give for mountains/cliffs Edited October 12, 2014 by soccerkid6 Quote
mpoh98 Posted November 12, 2013 Posted November 12, 2013 Wow soccerkid6, you really went all out on this moc, and the attention to detail really shows! The whole castle is just massive, and imposing, the angles are fantastic! But all your little details really show the quality in this moc, from that awesome chicken coop design, to the sweet fishing ship, to the bird's nest! I could list tons of fantastic details, but my comment would be never ending. I am really impressed with this build, you have done a wonderful job! Best of luck mate! Quote
Legonardo Posted November 12, 2013 Posted November 12, 2013 (edited) Nice one, cant say its my favorite of yours but i do like it alot, well done on including interiors, one thing my houses lack (something you need to sacrifice when the outside is crazy) if i may make one critizm, i find the dots of snow (not the patches, they are great) to be on the messy side. One two questions, what exactly is it that i influenced, and what on earth are these +1s for?!? Just cause i go with the flow, +1, hopefully i find out what it means sooner or later... The +1 are from peer review of the claims for credits in the University of Petraea Doctorate of Historica program. Unfortunately, only Kaliphlin members are able to do the review at the moment...but anyone is welcome to build for the program! Edited November 12, 2013 by Gideon Quote

Thanks legonardo, you may be right about the dots of snow. Oh and just out of curiosity, what is your favorite out of my builds? And you inspired the half-timber section on top of a stone tower amazing, i love the top left window in the last picture Thanks, I was wondering if anyone would notice that window Quote
Legopard Posted November 12, 2013 Posted November 12, 2013 (edited) That's what i call a good castle! I saw your teaser bur didn't expect something that good. The dark rockwork, the brighter walls and the wooden structures are very well build and chime together perfect! The landscape with snow, ice and only a few plants fits very well to Mitgardia. How you integrated the path and some other details is excellent! Hope to see more of such a cool stuff from you! Edited November 12, 2013 by Legopard Quote

Legonardo Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 currently stuck between your latest two vigs, they are so perfect! Quote
soccerkid6 Posted November 14, 2013 Author Posted November 14, 2013 currently stuck between your latest two vigs, they are so perfect! Those two did turn out nicely, I may do a slightly larger scene with similar techniques to one of the vignettes soon. I'm sure that I'll do larger scenes incorporating the same style from those vignettes in the future. Quote
ZCerberus Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 Certainly looks like a Soccerkid build! Everytime you make a castle, it is just so cute and compact- makes me think maybe I COULD make a castle that wouldn't take up 8 48 x 48 baseplates! Quote

Everytime you make a castle, it is just so cute and compact- makes me think maybe I COULD make a castle that wouldn't take up 8 48 x 48 baseplates! Thanks ZC, and it's funny, I keep making my castles bigger yet they still look very compact Guess that's just the way I build Quote
Gideon Posted November 15, 2013 Posted November 15, 2013 I agree that your compact castle design is a good inspiration! I always get stuck in thinking too much like an engineer and counting in 'realistic' wall thickness etc which tends to make my structures thick and making me avoid for example round wall techniques... I always get stuck in thinking too much like an engineer and counting in 'realistic' wall thickness etc which tends to make my structures thick and making me avoid for example round wall techniques... I decided a while ago to prioritize interiors, so usually my buildings only have one thick walls (which makes it a little trickier to texture the walls and do windows etc., if it is a good sized building I like to do 2 stud thick walls because of the greater flexibility they allow) to give me the most space inside. Usually my curtain walls are 3-4 studs thick, which isn't too terribly narrow considering how short my walls generally are. Quote
Alfadas Posted November 18, 2013 Posted November 18, 2013 And yet another great build! This one looks amazing, and I like it really much! Great work! Quote
