elisa1987 Posted November 20, 2013 Posted November 20, 2013 Your entry should fit on a 16x16 (base)plate. Alternatively, you could use two 8x16 plates. Let's say you can divide the 16x16 space up to a maximum of four 8x8 modules. Everything should fit on the plates, but for presentation you can photograph minifigures or minidolls next to the plates. Additional structural elements like trees, cars, tables, etc. should not fall outside the space you have available though. Can we divide the 16x16 space in two modules of sizes other than 8x16, or three modules, or four modules of sizes other than 8x8? Quote
Rick Posted November 20, 2013 Posted November 20, 2013 Can we divide the 16x16 space in two modules of sizes other than 8x16, or three modules, or four modules of sizes other than 8x8? Yes, up to a certain extent. I'll add this aspect to the rules as well. Quote
LukeClarenceVan Posted November 23, 2013 Posted November 23, 2013 Regarding the size allotments, is it based on square studs or a square restraint? ie. could I have 4 16x4 sections instead of of 8x8 sections? Also, can we have minifigures wandering around without each figure counting as one of our 4 segments? Quote
Rick Posted November 23, 2013 Posted November 23, 2013 Regarding the size allotments, is it based on square studs or a square restraint? ie. could I have 4 16x4 sections instead of of 8x8 sections? Let's stick to multiples of 8x8 modules (so one 16x16 module, two 8x16 modules, one 8x16 and two 8x8 modules, or four 8x8 modules). I'll clarify the point further in the rules. Also, can we have minifigures wandering around without each figure counting as one of our 4 segments? Yes, as indicated in the rules, for the photographs only minifigures or minidolls are allowed outside of the bases. Quote

CardinalBricks Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 Does the entry necessarily have to be about games and stalls? I know that's the theme of the WV set this year, but gosh, wouldn't it be nice to have a place to go indoors and warm up after all that time outside in the freezing cold? Quote

The theme this year is Expand the Winter Village Market. We don't want to constrain your creativity by saying it should be another ride or stall, but I don't think you should use that freedom to build anything winter-themed that you like (if that's what you're asking). timmyc1983 Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Hi, sorry, I have a quick question about posting. Is it possible to post a video as one of the 5 pictures or is it preferred that this is in the linked folder on say flickr, for example...? Thanks Quote

hoiharry Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Are we allowed to set up some standard lego trees without counting them as a segment? Quote

ResIpsaLoquitur Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 I hope this question isn't too nitpicky, but with regards to the one-stud overhang rule: my entry has two flags which are currently waving past the 16 x 16 edge. I'm reasonably certain that they go more than one stud over the edge. Is this something I need to correct? I can simply turn the flags to make sure they're inside a 1-stud border, but maybe I'm overreading the rule. Quote
Rick Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Is this something I need to correct? I can simply turn the flags to make sure they're inside a 1-stud border, but maybe I'm overreading the rule. No, if the flagpoles are positioned within the maximum dimensions and the pictures come out better with the flags "overhanging" by more than 1 stud, I'd say leave it as it is. They're not "structurally" out by more than one stud after all. Quote
NoEinstein Posted December 5, 2013 Posted December 5, 2013 Are we allowed to use a separate baseplate to place our off base (per reply #54) minfigures on? I want to add some spectators but they keep falling over due to a not so steady photo booth or whatever you call it you take pictures in against a neutral background. On a base plate they are steady. I will make it so that my entry is not placed on the base plate. Quote
Rick Posted December 5, 2013 Posted December 5, 2013 Are we allowed to use a separate baseplate to place our off base (per reply #54) minfigures on? Please make sure you have a maximum of 16 x 16 studs in baseplate(s) in your entry. If you want to place minifigures outside of this space, you'll have to make sure they don't fall over by other means. Quote
NoEinstein Posted December 5, 2013 Posted December 5, 2013 (edited) Thanks for the quick response on this night (no mandatory trip to Spain? ). I will keep the picture Flickr only then and leave my entry as is. Edit: Thanks for not allowing the loose base plate. It did not feel right to take the easy road and just post my update on Flickr only, so I "built" a better photo booth and decided to replace the first photograph of my entry. Hen Peril Posted December 7, 2013 Posted December 7, 2013 I'm looking forward to this - the size limit has allowed me to enter, where the 32x32 in previous years has been a barrier (due to lack of bricks and time!) This will be my first competition entry on Eurobricks. Thanks to the mods for putting it on! Quote
Wat Tambor Posted December 7, 2013 Posted December 7, 2013 Well that sounds like great fun. I have never built anything that is related to City or Friends but I'll have a try. Quote
wonderpuddle Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 Great contest. Thanks for putting this together. Quick question for you, as I'm not sure I understand the overhang rule. Does that rule mean you need to start with a 16 x 16 base, but you could, for example, have a portion of your build reach 18x18 proportions somewhere above the base, as long as you stay within one stud on every side? Thanks in advance. Quote

Very technically interpreted that's what it means, yes. The rule is there so you don't have to worry about going a stud outside of your 16 x 16 base with, for example, a roof, flag or tree branch. Quote
Paperballpark Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 I assumed it was one stud overhang on one side, so that it could technically fit in 16x17, as long as the base itself was no larger than 16x16. Quote
Pandora Posted December 9, 2013 Author Posted December 9, 2013 I assumed it was one stud overhang on one side, so that it could technically fit in 16x17, as long as the base itself was no larger than 16x16. As long as the base is 16x16 we'll allow one stud overhang on any side. We don't want to be too prescriptive about only allowing overhang on one side, so as Rick has said, technically you could have one stud overhang on all four sides, but the spirit of the rule is to allow people to not worry too much if something sticks out by a stud. Tom Jurassic Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 So I am not eligible to enter with LDD? :( Quote
