Does the medium motor handle that boom ok?

I'm looking to extend my boom but was thinking of going with the large motor instead.

Would there be a problem doing this?

Hi all,

I've got the LFX file from a member of the french Technic Forum (www.techlug.fr) for an extended 42009 boom. But as the step order isn't very clear (I had to dismantle the boom two times to place the right parts), I've recreated the instructions with MLCAD, and here are the results:

https://www.dropbox..../Boom 42009.mpd

https://www.dropbox..../Boom 42009.pdf

Feel free to build and give me information if the instructions contain any errors.

Best Greetings

Alex

Alex,

The link is not available anymore. Can you share the PDF again?

I am gathering documentation and resources for a Ultimate 42009 with extended boom and SBrick

Hi Jim,

I've now all the instruction files on bricksafe. Because sometimes the dropbox links were broken or deleted.

See here:

Note: The link for the instructions is also in my signature.

Greetings

Alex

Is their a complete parts list or better still an 'extra parts required other than the 42009 kit" available. I've downloaded the instructions but need a parts lists. Many thanks

Posted

Further to my earlier post I realise there are PDF files showing the parts and the quantity required but what I am really looking for is a BSX file.

Hi there,

Just respectfully following up with the previous request for a Boom parts list that can be loaded into bricklink or brickstore. Being a newbie to purchasing parts, trying to figure out the necessary parts from the pictures in the instructions allows for way too much possibility for me messing it up ;)

Thanks to everyone.

HELP!!! needed :

I finally got my extended boom fixed and mounted to the original body of 42009 with a single L motor. I find that the LAs can't hold the weight of the boom compared to the original boom.

What can I do ?

Posted (edited)

@keithlon:

Use a finer string, for ex. in nylon.

@kisper:

Check the gear placements in the construction. I've built gerger's crane with a heavier and longer boom, and I haven't any problem. And control your actuator functions.

Greetings

Alex

Hello everyone.

The 42009 crane is built and operating.

Now I would like to make the following MODS:

- Jurgens Ultimate 42009.

I think I have all the information I need.

- Afol1969's Extended Boom. Just got the pdf with the instructions but I do not have the list only with the new parts, do not even know if there are other files to help.

I would like to order all the new parts at once, but I don’t have the BSX file list of new parts for the boom.

Can anyone help me please?

Thanks in advance.

Hello everyone.

I made a bsx file with extended boom extra parts, but 2 pieces do not appear in the db.

76019 - White - 1 Unit - Technic Gear 24 Tooth Clutch with DkGray Center

59443 - Black - 2 Unit - Technic Axle Joiner Inline Smooth

How can I place these pieces in bsx file?

Or, if someone chooses to update the bsx file is here:

http://www.pjvision.net/LEGO42009/Extra%20Part%20List%20for%20Extended%20Boom%2042009.bsx

I also made a PDF listing the extended boom extra numbered pieces:

Are you using brickstock now? Brickstore hasn't been updated in years and sometime last year it stopped getting database updates so I started running into pretty basic part problems. Brickstock is someone else carrying the torch so to speak and it works well (its basically the same just with the updates).

The part numbers I see through brickstock are 60c01 for the clutch and 6538c for the joiner.

Hello nychase.

I used brickstock to do the bsx file.

Both files are now updated.

Hello all - i am having trouble getting the string in the right position on the boom (in order to make then 3rd element extend at the same time as the other two which is done with the RC). The photographs on the instructions are (for me) not that clear and I cannot get it to work ... any advice would be much appreciated !!! /Matthew

I'm not sure if this will help as the boom I used was slightly modified, but hopefully you can get an idea about how to do it. First, slip the string through the gray pin on the bottom of the main boom and then run it up through the inside(as indicated by dotted line). Now run that string through the middle hole in the lower panels of the second tier boom, from back to front and loop it under the bushings(or whatever you are using here). Now tie the end off on the third tier boom. All of the sections should now be connected by the string and you can start inserting them. Once they are all stored inside one another, make a large knot on the underside of the main boom where the small gray pin is(where you first started) so that the string cannot slip through.

It sounds terribly confusing probably

I tried a few different ideas today and found that if the cable is thin enough, you can add a return cable beneath section 2. I added a pulley to the rear of section 2 similar to the front but without the 3L axle and half bushings. Instead I used a frictionless tan pin. Tie a cable to the end of section 3(same spot as the other cable is attached) and run it through section 2(not through the 5x11 panel holes!). Next bring the cable underneath section 2 and dangle it in front of section 1. Insert all sections as they would be if the arm were retracted and secure the cable with a pin.

It works perfectly! There is little friction between the cable and smooth plastic panels so I don't think this would cause any problems unless you use the crane daily, of course. Now the boom can retract without the need for gravity.

Can you upload a picture of the contraption like you did on the modified boom? I dont understand the way you explained it :(
