Hi guys!....newbie to the forum + Technic in general. I recently purchased 42009 and after the build i had parts left over that dont appear in several reviews i have read for the set?

I'm more concerned with thr axeles left over...could these be for the B model?.....thing is, all power functions work as they should, wheels, outriggers etc.

So i am at a loss to explain these spare axels.

No axles in my spare pile. Here is what I had leftover:

3 tan gears

2 tan pins

1 light gray pin

1 red sliding gear

6 light gray bushings

3 yellow half-width bushings

2 orange transparent lights

1 red transparent light

1 orange transparent slope

6 black pins

1 spare string(possibly included to attach to whatever you want to lift)

My set came with 2 16L axles and I only needed one for the crane itself.

My spare parts look similar.

Except I don't have any towball pins left. And on this picture, the second 32L acle is not shown.

I wondered as well, why there are so many axles left over. Perhaps they are needed in the B-model. I am not sure yet. But I am pretty sure, I didn't miss placing them in the model.

Ya I meant two 32L axles, I always mix those two sizes up.

I definately never got a second 32L axel....i assumed the second 32L was only included in the preview sets sent to reviewers before the set was released, and they have since only included one 32L.....?

I have taken the mian body apart, so i will now count all the axels i have and see how they match to the official parts list. The spare axels were for the main body books 1/2/3....i had no axels left over from books 4/56.

So either i missed something, skipped a page....or this was a packing error at the factory.

Yes, the axles were left over from books 1-3.

I didn't get a preview set, had to buy mine, but I bought it the first day it was on lego shop@home (DE), which was almost a month before the official release date. Maybe they changed it sometime later.

I got the spare axle and the string and I purchased it about three months ago.

I got the spare 32L also. No extra cord though.

Wow, that's lucky, and quite weird! I've never seen this many extra pieces in a set, especially ones that big and expensive.

I always assumed the B model uses two of them.

Oh, that makes more sense, I don't have 42009, so I didn't know. It's nice though if you don't build the B-model, 32L axles are pretty cool.

Hate to bump an old thread, but I just finished the first section of my 42009 and have similar pieces left over. I have only 1 tan gear however. Did you model work with those extra axles pieces leftover? Thanks.

My spare parts look similar too the pictures seen here except that the only axle i have left is a 32. I also wonder how the model works with all those axles missing if the amount of axles included hasn't changed, and i have a hard time believing that it has.

Yes, everything worked without any problems. I can check later the amount of leftovers from the B model to see if the axles from my pic above have been used.

I have not built the B-model and don't think that those axles are needed there but you are welcome to check it out. If i remember correctly from another topic there is a lot of parts left after building the alternative to i doube that more other parts would be needed.

I checked. The axles were not used in the B model.

My set was missing a 8L axle with stop

I rebuilt the 42009 main body from scratch, and had the exact same parts left over....except the two ball pins, i missed a step on my first build. But the spare axels are still as shown in the original pic.

I got and built the 42009 and am a a bit surprized that there are more extra parts than usual ... 3× axles, 2× 12t gears, + the usual small pins and bushings.

Anyone has an exact list of left-over parts once the main model is built?
