CP5670 Posted December 27, 2011 Posted December 27, 2011 (edited) Hmm why not? If I have, let's say 150 € to use, of course I'm comparing the prices of sets wheter they are new or used. New is new, but in some cases 150 € is a better deal from used set than from new, if the set is rare and you want it really bad. But I kind of understand your point here, so no offence. You always take some risk with a used set. It could be missing pieces, have scratched/worn pieces or a variety of other issues. It all depends on how tolerant you are about such things. Recent used sets are less likely to have problems than vintage 80s/90s ones, although there also tends to be less of a price discrepancy between used and new copies of them. All true, espeacaily when you concider the gearing in a model such as 8421. I the model was heavily operated, then there is more potential for certain parts to be worn out even more than say, scratches on a the bricks of a city set. It sure would suck if you were to fully build a model and then find out it doesn't work propperly because the clutches were worn out, or axles were bent, cracked gears etc. These things need to be kept in mind when buy a second hand technic set. Traktor Posted December 27, 2011 Posted December 27, 2011 So for example that a clutch is broken, can defend that you pay almost twice as much for a set? I have bought a lot of second handed sets lately, and I have not had any problem so far. I do not think that I would manage to enjoy the build, knowing how much a misb set falls I value the minute you break the seal. Therefor I buy second handed and save a lot of money. And if a piece would be missing, I would probably have an extra one in my collection. When that is said, I have to say that most of the sets i buy second handed are so cheap that they would been worth the money just for the parts. So I do not pay "full price" if I am not sure it is 100% complete and I really want that specific set. Quote
timslegos Posted December 27, 2011 Posted December 27, 2011 I would say the 8421. The huge size and rc motor are a must. tim Quote
Freekysch Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 Ok guys, i've made a couple of shots of 8265 beside 8053 for comparison. Hope you like them and if you want any other photos, i'll take them. Quote

Hope you like them and if you want any other photos, i'll take them. http://www.flickr.co...57628603746821/ Nice!! I love the 8265 very much. The looks are awesome. It's the real deal. And the 8053 is in the box in front of me. No time today, but it will be built this year Quote
Traktor Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 I can not say that I like 8053, to simple and a big disapointment compared to 8421. Quote
davidmull Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 I can not say that I like 8053, to simple and a big disapointment compared to 8421. I agree,I just finished building my new 8421 and all I can say is it's a work of art,:) Quote
Freekysch Posted December 30, 2011 Posted December 30, 2011 Soo, i just found set 8069 for only 40 $ and i bought it. What can i say, a wonderful set, i really really enjoy building it. I think this was the most relaxing build comparing to 8265 and 8053. The new mLa are ok but i like the normal ones better. I was surprised to see that this set is decent in size for the number of pieces, it packs a lot of functions, it has some nice pieces, not so many stickers. Overall, i say this is a must have set, with very good value and great functions. I uploaded some pics with 8069 beside 8265 to see how they look side by side. http://www.flickr.com/photos/72997571@N02/sets/72157628603746821/detail/ Quote
DLuders Posted December 30, 2011 Posted December 30, 2011 It's interesting to see side-by-side pictures of two nice Lego Technic models (8069 Backhoe Loader and 8265 Front Loader): Quote

sama Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 I have been on a hunt for cool, old technic sets and I came across a new 8466 for CAN$250. This is a huge deal because on bricklink, the cheapest new 8466 is CAN$260, plus shipping and handling. I was intending to buy 8110 by March but this set looks so amazing and intimidating. Both sets have huge, unique tires, both sets are 4wd vehicles, 8110 has a m motor and cool functions (pto & ppto), 8466 has a gearbox and cool functions (wing doors & v8 engine), it is just so hard to pick. Oh, and about availability, I highly doubt somebody is going to buy the 8466 because there aren't many high-paying lego technic enthusiasts here in Toronto (I think). Which one is better (does anybody have picks of both of them together?)? Quote
jorgeopesi Posted January 14, 2012 Posted January 14, 2012 8466 you have time a lot to buy 8110... is my opinion. Quote
DLuders Posted January 14, 2012 Posted January 14, 2012 Recommend buying the Lego Technic 8466 4x4 Off-Roader set. It has the BIG "Power Puller" tires! Quote
davidmull Posted January 14, 2012 Posted January 14, 2012 Buy 8466 I got it a few weeks ago too and the wheels are huge. Quote
dhc6twinotter Posted January 14, 2012 Posted January 14, 2012 8466 is an amazing set and a nice set to put on the shelf. If you are wanting to use the parts from 8466 for mocs, then about the only parts worth using are the wheels, springs, pistons, and a handful of black parts. All the grey parts are the old grey color and are outdated. If you want a set to buy for parts, I vote for 8110. The wheels on 8466 are really nice though, and if you think you would use them enough, then it may be worth buying 8466. Quote
Razvy_cluj_ro Posted January 14, 2012 Posted January 14, 2012 I vote 8110 looks great, have a lot of cool and new parts, pneumatics, M motor, suspension and cool tires 8466 is BIG but don't have so many useful parts. Quote

All the people know 8110 is a great set, not for me , but 8466 is hard to find and the 8110 not. Quote
mahjqa Posted January 14, 2012 Posted January 14, 2012 The only thing 8466 has going for it, is that it's rare. Perhaps those wheels. 8110 has better parts and more functionality. Also, the suspension doesn't fall apart when you blink at it. Quote
fitzi Posted January 14, 2012 Posted January 14, 2012 I would buy 8466, because 8110 will be available for quite a long time and it will obviously become a bit cheaper as time goes by. Quote
fitzi Posted January 14, 2012 Posted January 14, 2012 8069 is not very impressive when u go buy 8455 , iv got both of the above but there some of my least favourite sets! I think you cannot compare 8455 with 8069, the only thing both have in common is that both are backhoes (ok, and they are actually yellow ). Don´t misunderstand me, I love 8455, it´s a pleasure to build, the pneumatics are just awesome, but I do like 8069 very much, too! It´s way cheaper than 8455 but its price/piece ratio is rather good, and I like how they managed to "copy" the functions of 8455 by not using pneumatics but a new, a different way. I think both models have their right to exist side by side, 8455 as the probably most complex pneumatic model of all time ( even though 8868 comes close), 8069 as a rather cheap, but clever model with many functions and place of introduction of the new mini-LA´s. Sure 8455 is the more impressive model due to its 11 or so pneumatic cylinders, but 8069 isn´t that bad I think! fitzi Quote
sama Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 (edited) From the same seller, I found another amazing deal. After seeing your answers, I was leaning towards 8466 but for the same price, CAD$250 (pretty cheap if you think about it), I could buy 8435 Silver Champion. Now which one is better to buy now, 8466, or 8458? EDIT: The cheapest, new 8458 on bricklink is CAD$359. Edited January 15, 2012 by sama Quote
allanp Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 For me, 8466 is way better than the silver champion. The silver champion has not many useful parts and very little complexity. The suspention is life like, but thats it. So between 8110 and 8466, 8466 is very rare now, so you might want to pick that one up sooner rather than later, but 8110 is IMHO much much better and worth every penny of it's full retail price. So if you plan to eventually get both, get 8466 first, but if you're only gonna get one, get 8110. Quote
Finntech Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 I'm also little interested of 8466, I think it would look good with other supercars in my collection. It is interesting that there is pneumatics (towing system?) in some pictures, but it is not included to the original set, right? I also think that in technical mind 8466 is better model than 8458, but just for display 8458 should be amazing too (it is large!). Quote
