If I were you I would try to get more money and get the 42043 Arocs. But if you say you are interested in PF sets, why don't you buy the Volvo 42030 ? Maybe you can find it at a decent price and you get all the PF you need for RC stuff.

I was about to pull the trigger on 42030 because of the oob rc and pf. But after a friend pointed out instructions for the ultimate 42009, I may go with that instead. I really like how 42043 has both pf and pneumatics v2, not to mention the model itself is beautiful. If only there were reputable instructions for adding rc. I'm sure it will come eventually...

Where is your local market? or do you literally mean your local market!?? in the UK a new 42009 is at least £150/200 Euro! You price sounds much better!

Hey Everyone

I am a technic noob, started building them around Christmas last year. I started with the Street Bike, then I built the fireplane. Lastly I built the 24 Hour Race Car. I am looking at building something not so expensive as the 24 hour car next. Any suggestions?

Also which would you buy the Race Kart or The Mining Truck.

Well for anyone that's gonna invest a lot of time and money into technic, I suggest building mechanisms similar to akiyuki's liftarm sorter and axle sorter. I'm pretty sure there's not instructions on them. But they would work wonders for sorting a collection. On the actual topic, I would purchase 42043 as a starter set, as it provides a great base for modifications, learning, and incorporate's alot of useful parts for building. I'd also say to get 42009 if you can before prices go up on it now, its amazing to me the amount of gear that went into the crane. The outriggers are a neat use of the red 8 tooth gear, and it steers like a charm.

Or

42040... For 48€

I already have the 42038, and the 42039 is coming...

Personally I prefer the 42037 for the Frames, Wheels, Steering and Suspension Parts. But the colors don't mix well with the currents that I have.

In the other hand, the 42040 comes with more parts, panels and a better color. But I don't see many useful parts.

So I need your help here

I am starting to build up a parts collection to build some different / improved attachments for the Unimog.

To build up my parts collection I am tossing up between buying another Unimog or 42043. Purely from a parts point of view, which will provide a better selection of suitable parts?

I would go for 42043: less cost, more parts, a different set to work on, PneumaticsV2, L motor, and more part variety. This is of course unless I know that the attachments I'm intending to build require parts found only in Unimog.

Been a few years but started to get back into it thanks to my kids recently.

Few years back I bought a bunch of sets started off small 8435 (4WD Technic) and 8436 (Truck Technic) in 2004. Moved up to the 8070 (Supercar) and then 8110 (Unimog 400) with getting some power functions back in 2011.

Recently just stepped into the store and got the 42039 (24 Hour Race Car). But got that building itch and after hitting the websites again seeing all these creations here makes me want to do something a little more.

Its a tough call for me, I'm eyeing up both the 42030 (Motors + RC Controls) and the 42043 (Better value with more parts and improved features). Both have a great interest for me but I'm sure I can probably get only one.

This may be odd comparison but any suggestion would be appreciated.

I got domestic ministry approval for one set only.....42042 vs 42052....both retailing about the same price here. Which one would u suggest?

My buying point would be

1. potential Model C or D (main consideration)

2. usable part for MOCs.

3. rare parts

I note that the part count are 1400 vs 1041 but 90 of those for 42042 are track links.

Appreciate your suggestion.

As you said 90 are track links, so you still have 260 extra. 42042 has the L motor, small LA, big turntable vs M motor, big rotor blades,small turntable in 42052. So I guess 42042 is way better for MOCs. The big number of blue beams is also advantageous. Also note that with 42052 you get a lot of white color, which may need more frequent cleaning, especially if used by many people, and white LEGO is known to yellow on long term. Perhaps you may accommodate the 42042 with a small set with some good wheels or few wheels from Bricklink. I suggest the wheels/tires of 42008 as they are used for many purposes.

Going to my local LEGO store today at lunch... I know they have the 42043 in stock, not sure on the 42030 and I'll make a call there. I might break down and get both at this point. Happy weekend ahead! :)

Well got the 42043 (Arcos) sitting in my trunk

Can't wait to start building it then tweaking it after I have a little fun with the original build. As for the 42030... yeah probably will buy it online today. Really want some RC functions to have fun with it and the kids which looks like a blast with that vehicle.

Edit/Update:

Its nice having a target distribution center in my town. Local store should receive my new set (42030) within a few hours so I can potentially pick it up on the way home. Niiiice. Better than a week and a half I was getting. If there was an option I'd save them the handling and pick it up from the warehouse myself. So now I got 2 sets to start playing with this weekend.

I been looking around for my next set to get.

I have started with 42030 and subsequently follow by 8043. (42030 was the one that brought me back from dark age). Love RC with PF.

8043 complicated gearbox make me enjoy the build.

I have 42009, 8421, 9398 and I have 8439 which is still in the way.

I enjoy PF RC and pneumatic.

Now I am looking into my next set, so which is better in term of the function?

8285 - pneumatic

8258 - PF

8110 - pneumatic

This could been asked many times already.

All of the three sets are great, but I especially like the 8258 Crane Truck because it has a nice gearbox, nice design and it is a classic. 8285 is nice too, but it is not a very complicated set. On the plus side it has a great design. 8110 is good too, but if you have/will buy 42043 you can skip the Unimog.

So 8285 has less complicated gear then 8258?

If so, I would actually get 8258 since it's cheaper then 8285.
