I honestly don't know where to start, there are so many sets! I want one that is really big and expensive (100 to 250$), and fun to build and display, I am perfectly capable of building "hard" sets, so don't recommend small ones. I would also prefer it if it includes power functions.

I think 8043 would be even better - more complex and more fun to play with (especially if you then build Jurgen's ultimate version). Also looks better.

quite easy to answer:

if you prefer newer studdless sets: 8258, 8110, 8043 - all OOP - or latest 42009... all of them with PF

if you also like studded sets: 8880, 8868 and 8480 or 8479

if you prefer pneumatic: 8455 or 8868

if you search for the one and only supercar: 8880 or - to a lesser extend - 8448 rsp. 8466

the bold ones are my personal preferences... but all of these sets are gorgeous...

8110 or 42009 for sets still in production.

Try to find 8258 Crane Truck if you can, it is a great start set. Also, 8043 and 8110 are very nice.

PS. I know you did say you do not want small sets, but i strongly recommend 42007 Moto Cross Bike.

try and get 8258, it's one of the best sets. If not then try and order the seperate parts and download the instructions. That's what i'm doing.

8285 all the way! No doubt. Do it.

42009 can always be bought later. Easy choice.

(Edit: wrong advice, thought you meant 8258)

I am very interesting to build (next two or three month) the 8110 but i can´t find a full rc (ir) controlled version........ :sceptic: hmmmm is there still existing one?

If not i have to create my own version of this fantastic Unimog.

P.S. I want to build only full rc (ir) models.

8285 is a waste of space IMO. Too big compared to the functions, and virtually non-playable.

Waste of space - true - but that makes it such a good base for modding!

8285 has some nice metallic silver parts though, and a lot of useful panels.

Honestly - I have bought one just for the silver wheels

Nooooo I have given the complete wrong advice :((((

I thought you meant the 8258. I am really sorry about this, since the 8285 isn't my favorite either.

I feel really bad if you have purchased it because of my suggestion.

It looks cool, but it is indeed pretty useless.

Here is a question: Should I buy 8880 or 8868?

I'm not giving advice anymore

Well, don't worry Jim, everyone make mistakes, we are humans  . About the set, i see non of you really lime 8285 tow truck, but i think i will buy it because i found it at 130 euro and maybe if i skip this deal, i will regret later. Hopefully it is not such a bad set, i will post a review after i get it.

Perhaps it will sit nice in my display case near his brothers 8258 and 9397 (all made by my favorite designer, UW).

If it wasn't for the very good price, i would have bought 42009 for sure.

Okay cool!

It does look awesome by the way. So for displaying it's perfect. And you can still get the 42009 later.

I love 8285, and have six versions of it. Most of those who say they dont like it are ones who have become Lego fans since after it was released. At the time of its release it was the only pneumatic set available and without a doubt the smoothest most realistic looking technic set produced, definitely a turning point in technic in my mind. It would have been nice to have had more pneumatic functions and possibly a motorised compressor but it was still a great set.
