Kalagorn Posted October 5, 2013 Posted October 5, 2013 I honestly don't know where to start, there are so many sets! I want one that is really big and expensive (100 to 250$), and fun to build and display, I am perfectly capable of building "hard" sets, so don't recommend small ones. I would also prefer it if it includes power functions. Quote
jantjeuh Posted October 5, 2013 Posted October 5, 2013 I think 8043 would be even better - more complex and more fun to play with (especially if you then build Jurgen's ultimate version). Also looks better. Quote

Freekysch Posted October 5, 2013 Posted October 5, 2013 Try to find 8258 Crane Truck if you can, it is a great start set. Also, 8043 and 8110 are very nice. PS. I know you did say you do not want small sets, but i strongly recommend 42007 Moto Cross Bike. Quote
Lakop Posted October 5, 2013 Posted October 5, 2013 try and get 8258, it's one of the best sets. If not then try and order the seperate parts and download the instructions. That's what i'm doing. H Quote
jantjeuh Posted October 5, 2013 Posted October 5, 2013 8258 is a great-looking set, but IMO functionality-wise 8043 blows it out of the water Quote
Freekysch Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 Sooo, i have the oportunity to buy or the 42009 crane or the 8285 tow truck, but i must decide fast. What should i get ? Quote
Jim Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 8285 all the way! No doubt. Do it. 42009 can always be bought later. Easy choice. (Edit: wrong advice, thought you meant 8258) Quote
Ralf Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 I am very interesting to build (next two or three month) the 8110 but i can´t find a full rc (ir) controlled version........ hmmmm is there still existing one? If not i have to create my own version of this fantastic Unimog. P.S. I want to build only full rc (ir) models. Quote
Lost_In_Noise Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 8285 is a waste of space IMO. Too big compared to the functions, and virtually non-playable. Quote
jantjeuh Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 8285 has some nice metallic silver parts though, and a lot of useful panels. Quote
Lost_In_Noise Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 It's the only flagship I've gotten rid of, apart from the old crane 8053. Quote
peter_m Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 8285 is a waste of space IMO. Too big compared to the functions, and virtually non-playable. Waste of space - true - but that makes it such a good base for modding! 8285 has some nice metallic silver parts though, and a lot of useful panels. Honestly - I have bought one just for the silver wheels Quote
Junpei Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 Here is a question: Should I buy 8880 or 8868? Quote

Nooooo I have given the complete wrong advice :(((( I thought you meant the 8258. I am really sorry about this, since the 8285 isn't my favorite either. I feel really bad if you have purchased it because of my suggestion. 8285 is a waste of space IMO. Too big compared to the functions, and virtually non-playable. It looks cool, but it is indeed pretty useless. Here is a question: Should I buy 8880 or 8868? I'm not giving advice anymore Quote

Freekysch Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 Well, don't worry Jim, everyone make mistakes, we are humans . About the set, i see non of you really lime 8285 tow truck, but i think i will buy it because i found it at 130 euro and maybe if i skip this deal, i will regret later. Hopefully it is not such a bad set, i will post a review after i get it. Perhaps it will sit nice in my display case near his brothers 8258 and 9397 (all made by my favorite designer, UW). If it wasn't for the very good price, i would have bought 42009 for sure. Quote

Most of those who say they dont like it are ones who have become Lego fans since after it was released. At the time of its release it was the only pneumatic set available and without a doubt the smoothest most realistic looking technic set produced, definitely a turning point in technic in my mind. It would have been nice to have had more pneumatic functions and possibly a motorised compressor but it was still a great set. Quote
Jim Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 Nice to hear you are a big fan. My advice wasn't that useless after all Quote
