Christian Posted August 19, 2005 Posted August 19, 2005 I believe the ship wheel is used on the very pottom, to simulate the construction zone the Falcon flies out from. I remember it from one of the toy fair pics. sounds like one of TLC's many ways to use a specialized piece, but I think that we will have the final answer when someone gets their set from S@H, and posts about it. Except someone finds the picture that Spotfrog have mentioned Quote
jamie75 Posted August 19, 2005 Posted August 19, 2005 I'll take some pics of the box and steps of construction when I get it. Unless someone else does. I probably will not have time to build it till Monday or Tuesday! Jamie Quote
Christian Posted August 20, 2005 Posted August 20, 2005 EDIT: Using the Zoom feature on S@H, I believe that the ship's wheels are indeed used on the top and bottom. after trying that too, it seems you are right. Quote
mikel000 Posted August 23, 2005 Posted August 23, 2005 Hi all - new member here. Got my DSII yesterday. The "ship wheels" are internal; they go on top & bottom of the Vertical Support; I'm thinking the circular disc pieces attach to make the top & bottom curves of the DS. -- More pieces than I thought I'd ever see at one time, overall. Mine didn't ship with the label for the placard. Wrote Lego already; they're usually good about things like that. Quote
sam89 Posted August 23, 2005 Posted August 23, 2005 Here's a pic of the box art: http://www.fbtb.net/sets/10143/10143_big.jpg I have to say, it looks very impressive in that pic. Ace will have a review up soon. Quote

mikel000 Posted August 25, 2005 Posted August 25, 2005 Well, I'm having fun building mine. The worst part is finding the bricks from the masses. http://community.webshots.com/user/mikel000 Quote
Beagle Posted August 25, 2005 Posted August 25, 2005 Sigh.... even though I should really buy this set for completeness' sake, I just can't bring myself to do it. I'm just really not fond of the "faceted" look of the design. I know it's really hard to make a nice-looking sphere in lego, but for $300 (US, at least) I just feel like it should look better than this. Although it was smart, on their part, to make it the second, under-construction death star..... at least that's a lot more interesting stuff to look at in the uncompleted section. Quote
mikel000 Posted August 26, 2005 Posted August 26, 2005 100% agree with last post about better to do the DS 2... more interesting than just a sphere. JUST about finished mine... Only a little table space still taken up be to-be-used bricks. :) 2 little construction notes... 1) First time I've ever had to REMOVE bricks from a model (according to directions); though I know why they did it. 2) I think its kinda sad on the LassrDish bit that they try to FORCE (haha - no pun intended) a shadow!! they use dark grey and light grey bits & panels to make you think its got DEPTH. (Sure, anything like that WOULD, but to incorporate that into the bricks means you have to have it at a certain angle with the right lighting to make it look right.) Definetly, too much thought & care on my end... but whatever. Quote
