Starwars4J Posted April 6, 2007 Posted April 6, 2007 What is wrong with the Fantasticar?! I quite like it. I don't think he's saying there's anything wrong with the Fantasticar, but rather that it wouldn't support the idea of Lego, since the existence of the car itself is so unknown! Batman worked because he's known for his gadgets and vehicles, whereas not so much for the other superheroes. Quote
Brainbox Posted April 7, 2007 Posted April 7, 2007 Batman worked because he's known for his gadgets and vehicles, whereas not so much for the other superheroes. I know, but I'd still like to see a... well, see if you can guess! ;-) Quote
JCC1004 Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 What about a Plastic man line G A I know you're a newbie, but please don't revieve old threads in the future. Quote
samthelegoman1 Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 Iron Man and Superman could be cool. Lego might make a licsencing deal for the Iron Man 2 movie coming out. Quote
Mixwizzard The Terrible Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 Dang it wheres Superman Im horrible at doing Customs for Minifigs and my Superman custom was a failure. Quote
tin7_creations Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 I don't think TLG should pick up a specific license... instead of going for 'Batman' or 'Spider-Man', they should just do themes called 'DC' or 'Marvel'. Since there are so many cross-over stories in the comic book universe, by creating sets of a whole legion of comic book favourites would allow fans to create and re-enact so many of their favourite stories. Lt. Col. Thok Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 Why not a james bond licences Too violent & sexual is my guess - not good for the kiddies. Quote
Capt. Redblade Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 I want Green Lantern! He's interesting, popular, and TLG could go nuts with the space designs! Quote
The Brick Rat Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 But what other superhero theme could out do Batman? Any thoughts? Just something to ponder about. Batman, with his vehicles, gadgets and great rogues gallery was the perfect licensed superhero theme for LEGO and I don't really think there is another that could be better. If LEGO wanted to do another superhero theme I believe that a non-licensed in-house theme would be the way for them to go. Think something similar to the Agents theme but with superheroes instead of secret agents. Quote
Zarkan Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 (edited) My answer: none. At least, not with TLC's current way of thinking. You see, almost all of their sets are vehicle based, including much of their licnesed themes. The reason for this is that it's been shown that themes without an emphasis on vehicles, themes simply don't sell well. This is why Harry Potter and Spiderman did not sell well - because they were almost totally driven by characters and locations, and thus did not appeal as much to young boys - TLC's primary market. This is also why Batman is the only superhero theme that did, or will probably ever do well as a lego license. Because the Batman mythos has such a wide variety of vehicles that can be replicated in lego form, it was fairly easy for TLC to make three waves of lego Batman sets that almost entirely focused on vehicles. The reason that the theme got terminated after a little while was that, while there was a wide variety of vehicles, the actual set design and orignality deteriorated by the third wave. 2008's batman line had a total of one unique set (Harely Quinn's Hammer Truck), one set that was a derivative of a 2006 set (The Tumbler and The Batmobile both featured the "bat-car chases an enemy's armed van" theme), one set that offered only new versions of vehicles included in the 2006 Batcave (The Penguin's Sub), and one set that was new but was also horrible in quality (Batman's buggy). As you can see, Superhero themes in general just don't work well in lego form, profitwise. Any superhero theme based on characters and locations is doomed to fail from the start (even with a movie license rather than a comic book licenese), and the only superhero theme that did work in Lego form only succeded until TLC ran out of original, high quality vehicle designs and the kids got tired of all the repetitiveness. In any case, it's just not a win situation for the Lego company to continue licensing themes like this - at least not unless they have a change in policy that works for the better of the company. I can't see that happening any time soon, however, as their current strategy has been very sucessful. Why not a james bond licences We have Agents, and that's about as close to a James Bond theme as we'll probably ever get. Edited July 15, 2009 by Grevious Quote
