"I'm breakin' about even either way. I think it's best if both groups split the gold so we can each replenish our supplies when we make land. I've been in Guts' place before--if our group needs to spend extra, I'm sure he'll chip in from his side-earnin's, but let it come outta the looted gold first."

Thormanil steps beside Guts.

"You're pretty naive, for a captain who up to now has shown impeccable leadership. If your arch-foe bloody offers to tell everyone how you saved them, it's foolish to turn them down. Don't you see?, That lass weren't trying to force you to put anything down in writing, promising your allegiance, she was throwing you a bone. You get reassurance they won't come after you in the near future, and you can run off that reassurance for until it no longer suits you. Sure, they might get pissed and try and kick your head in afterwards, but in that case, you've just bought yourself lots of lovely free time. You won't feel bad for lying to a bunch of blokes you've always hated, too. I have no idea what world you live in, but there's literally no downside to accepting that offer. I've never been captain of anything in my life, nor will I likely be if I can barely stand on these bloody things, but even I can see that you messed up there."

"We're not heroes. We can't use allegiances and relations with factions as we will, and throw them away on a whim. There's more at stake to it than good favor with the Bonapartes. I can handle them now, much as I hate to, but pretending to suck up to them and stab them in the back will cause even worse problems than we have now. It's not my style, either. Are you seriously telling me that if your worst enemy offered you their favor, then no matter how much their favor would disgust you and destroy every principle you've got, you'd take it anyway?"

"I really have no arguement here with what I get. Gods, you've all just got the cabin fever haven't you! We'd be on dry land if we hadn't tussled with those boater types and I have no support for the guys that can put Eubric in a stranglehold if they want." Tesni took a cloth from her pocket to clean her blade.

"Captain, say the word and I'll sit between the hotheads for a while!"

11059523974_b86fd72dfb_t.jpg

"Now this one knows what she's talking about. If they end up trading blows, by all means. Just try not to get too much blood on the deck. And be careful with that sword, I'd rather my ship not go up in flames."

"Captain, when will we be on our way?"

"Soon as you all stop fighting over this junk and sort it out."

Jess rolled her eyes at the two men arguing over something so petty.

"Hoke, Guts got to it first. And your little chart... Thing... Doesn't account for those who didn't get experience from the battle. I'm gonna have to go with Guts on this one.

"Thanks for this hefty sword. Howeve if someone else wants it, speak up. I prefer my elven blade... it can cut through any armor. Though I will take it, just note I prefer gold so I can eventually upgrade my Elf Sword." :classic:

Guts. Nerwen said softly,

I know you would be annoyed if others tried to take your role away from you. There is nothing wrong with your distribution, but as second in command, co-leader or whatever, it is not your call. This boy is young and still earning his stripes. He will make mistakes. Upsetting half the rogues here may well be one of them. But one cannot learnt from mistakes unmade. Regardless of my views on the merits of each breakdown, I must support Sir Ablesword.

Nerwen moves to stand beside Hoke.

"If all you rogues would like to dump your loot into the pile, to divide evenly, then we can start again. I know the skills of a Black Knight. If he so chooses, he can strip an enemy bear with his ability. If it was significant, and he chose not to put his haul into the pile, I would not be inclined to award him anything further. The same goes for you rogues, who, just in this fight alone, earned a combined amount of over 2400 gold. That is more than some of us have seen in our entire careers. If a small allocation of gold that is almost 1/5 of that amount distributed over half the party bothers you, then I think you have a problem.

It is quite amusing that the thieves are protesting being 'robbed'."

"You are welcome. Feel free to trade if, upgrade it, or sell it later on. Mayhaps you could use its heft in battle if it better suits the necessary tactics to achieve victory."

Jess scoffed at her party leader's naivety.

"Of course I want more gold. I'm a rogue assassin for crying out loud. I love gold! What's more, I'm a rogue assassin that got gypped out of some experience at the last possible second. :hmpf_bad: So I want some more gold to help ease the pain. Forgive me, Oh Glorious Leader, for being myself."

"Well, that is something you need to improve on, but for now, I will forgive you," Hoke said with facetious chuckle.

Jess laughed despite of herself.

"Clever. Now can we just get me my gold and items and move on?"

Posted (edited)

Oh lighten up, Hoke. Were it necessary, I'd gladly give my money, but in this case it is far from necessary.

"But you didn't, you won't, and I, nor anyone else here asked you to. Again, you will steal expontionally more than others will earn. You and the other rogues have pulled a massive haul of loot before any other were able to make a claim. If you go down in a fight or need healing, do you repay your fellows for the items or energies used to solely benefit yourself? No. I allotted items to everyone, and Guts's crew received the actual prizes from the battle. 500 gold divided over half the party is not a significant enough amount to put a dent into your purse. It's a matter of principle and I will stand on it."

Hoke said this all plainly and matter-of-fact. He harbored no ill will, but it was irksome dealing with such petty greed. If he was the only one expecting to make a compromise, then was it really a compromise at all?

Jess laughed despite of herself.

"Clever. Now can we just get me my gold and items and move on?"

"You have gold and items from this fight, do you not?"

"Hoke, perhaps you should think of a fair compromise as it seems this is going nowhere."

"Principle my fine reptilian fellow. I will live on it. A compromise occurs when both sides concede a bit of ground. If the rogues want to include their thefts in the pool to divide evenly, then that would be a compromise."

You make me sound like some pathetic thief. I will be fully willing to buy resources when the time cones, but I don't know if you've noticed, but we can't exactly buy resources right now. If not resources it would go into my tools, which stills helps the party.

But don't for one minute think I don't care about this or any other party. You honestly think I'd let money come before others' lives!? That's insulting!

"Oh come on. This is ridiculous. Take my cut and divide it. Just let us get on with this voyage."

"Tis sad you'd place so much faith in the man who stole almost 10 times what you were alloted and offer up your portion while he sits there hoarding his and offering none. I had thought to offer mine, but I will not give in to this chest thumping bullying.

I am not sure why the captain hasn't set sail while discuss this matter."

"I've done plenty of pillagin'. I'm not in rags, here. If a mere 50 gold and some wine'll get us moving again, I'm happy to front it. It's got nothin' to do with protectin' the rogues' pockets."

"Then let your actions speak for themselves. Put what you stole in the pool. I have no qualms with how you steal and benefit yourself and have no desire to take that from you, but don't act the part of the benefactor when your actions say otherwise."

"And I have nonintention of emptying their pockets although their paranoia speaks otherwise. I would say that you keep what you earned. Tis a shame when thise who stole at least twice as much as your portion want half of yours."

"I've been on just about every side of this situation as you could imagine, and I still say yer causin' a fuss for nothin'. When we dock, if my group decides we need to restock, I'll have no problems askin' em to foot the bill. But just let this go."

Haldor clutched his head.

"Will everyone please shut the hell up? I'm getting a headache here. Why can't we just divide it up like Guts said, and have the rogues pay for our necessary supplies when we hit the dock?"

The raider smiled, and moved closer to Nerwen. "Heh, this is what I expected from you. It's a mistake for them to put him in the lead over you... I am however, not, second in command."

Nerwen inclined her head toward Guts.

I have led parties enough times to know dividing spoils is the hardest part. And it is made harder when the party disagrees.

We will be going seperate ways after this, will it make your leadership of your party untenable if you give ground here? For I cannot see Ablesword leading Benji and Jess well if he does not assert his authority here.

"I am not going to take the risk, Nerwen. I've made my point, I can not in good concience back down. You know it's not about the gold. Despite Carvenhall's antics, he respects you, and will listen to you if you tell him to fall in line... Jess is someone I don't know. Ablesword though... Is a fool, watch yourself out there."
