Deathleech Posted December 5, 2013 Posted December 5, 2013 Sure. Here is a picture of a Moria Orc and a Warg Rider in comparison to the new Gundabad Orc. (I also added this picture to the review) Those actually looks pretty good together... they are starting to look like a nice rag tag band or Orcs now that we have gotten a few different prints. Looks like the Gundabad Orcs are going to have to fill in as the main orc force seeing as how they are so cheap on BL (especially without hair). Still no properly armored Mordor Orcs, but all well. I beg to differ. There are TONS of green orcs. Gorbag is a prime example. The only real difference between Moria Orcs (goblins) and Morgul Orcs in PJ version (besides their location), is they are smaller and have the distinct helms. Lego decided not to include either of these things though so I think the Moria Orcs blend in just fine with the rest of the orcs if you are going for a more rag tag horde. Quote

I ment these lego versions :) But I agree that there should be some helmet for moria orc though..It is not so hard to mould one, and also I miss the shield... Such a shame TLG didnt pay attention to that. Quote
Gryphon Ink Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 I think the olive green fits in very nicely, and I agree that we now have a very nice assortment of Orcs. The Gundabad Orcs have really changed the picture and made it more fun to assemble an Orc horde. I just got this set, but I'm making myself wait to open it since I promised my wife I would. I'll open it the night before I go see the movie. I'm finally getting really excited for the movie, and the set looks great IMO. Going to play the LOTR Card Game tonight instead. I love that game. vangar graybeard Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 I hate Beorn's hair. It's so ugly. Do you think we will get his bear form? Quote
Hammerhand Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 I really like this set because the minifigs included, especially the new orcs, but... I wish Beorn had darker brown/black hair, as that's what I recall it being in the book. I also personally would rather the hair piece be separate from the head. But oh well, it's still pretty cool. Now we need him in bear form... Quote

Hammerhand Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 But in the movie he suppose to have rather grey hair or something like that, not dark brown or black. and the minifig is designed acording movie design :) Yeah, i remember there being a picture of him from the movie somewhere, and his hair was a grayish color. But I thought I remember it being a darker gray, more toward gray mixed with black. But I guess we can't blame TLG... Quote

Deathleech Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 We have already seen pics of Beorn from the film. The Lego minifigure seems fairly accurate, maybe it could of been a tiny bit more gray: His minifigure height was the real issue. Quote
Titan Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 Thank you for the detailed review. I love the minifigures of this set but that Beorn head/hair is almost as unforgivable as the flick missiles.... Quote
Blazej_Holen Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 Great review i like the last photo :) Quote
Gryphon Ink Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 Now that I've seen the movie, I think Beorn is a really good minifig. Because, A - his hair truly is like that. And B - he needs to be taller than normal minifigs without being a giant (like Hagrid) or being all massively built (like Azog). "Woody Legs" would not have looked good IMO. So the odd one-piece head and Big Hair work really well to give him the right look. The Gundabad Orcs are also spot on. Quote
NiceMarmot Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 What?! The human hand on the back of the box isn't included? TLG sure is cheaping out on us this time. LOL. That was my thought too. Especially since at least one human hand is probably required for full assembly. However, I have it on good authority that TLG will be including actual human hands in 2014's Halloween sets… Quote
lord raphael Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 i love the new orcs in the hobbit much better than last years hobbit sets and i love how the hair on the dwarf looks as it makes him look like a giant compared to a dwarf Quote
Tuinman Posted December 18, 2013 Posted December 18, 2013 Great review. I definitely will buy the set, as an expansion for my Dol Guldur Battle set (which is still in it's box...). Orcs look great, Beorn gives me mixed feelings. The single piece head doesn't bother me, I'm not sure if I like the printing on the torso. It's great to have him in a set though. Quote
Ceroknight Posted December 19, 2013 Posted December 19, 2013 Great review! Funny thing, I saw the last copy of this set at Target and was hesitant on buying it. I ended up telling myself after I read a review on EB I would if I still like it, only to see you have written one 3 weeks ago... Next time for sure Quote
sebjbow Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 very good but odd set...it was never in the movie, but i still like it Quote
Gryphon Ink Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 very good but odd set...it was never in the movie, but i still like it I've heard that a scene like this was filmed, but didn't make it to the final cut. If so, it will be in the extended edition DVD. Quote
Zeussoid Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 Liking the review, and the vibrant colour on those Orcs. Just need a bit of time to get over how USD 19.99 = EU 19.99 = GBP 19.99 as far as Lego is concerned. I'm sure this is a common complaint, but hey, I'm new Quote
Godtshep Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 Thanks for the review! I might get this now... But General Grievous Wheel Bike first Quote
AFOLguy1970 Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 This is a pretty nice little set. The Gundabad orcs are the best ones in all the sets, because these allow you to choose to have the hair pieces if you so desire. Beorn is well designed. As for the fortress wall, the booby traps are very interesting. It makes me want to someday design something that has a lot of traps and other related contraptions, sort of like the 1980's movie The Goonies. The double catapult is unique, and we actually have the skulls as ammunition. Quote
