"They've already paid off, somewhat. Maybe bloodshed wasn't avoidable. But all-out war might just be. As predicted! I'll have to have some words with the king of the Four Boulders when this is over....secure reparations and rebuild our city. Hardship is in our nature, Olmstyr. All we have to decide is what to do about it. Dwell on it, fight it out...or work past it."

"You know what you're talking about. Moving on and pushing for interaction is the only way to stop crap like this happening again. As for dear Raquel... I'm not going to protect him if his head is going to push for peace."

He looked to Raquel.

"Sorry, pal."

Haldor came across an unconscious form that stirred when he healed her at the cost of 1 ether.

"...Ugh....did we win?"

The nord smiles as the clanleader wakes.

"Not yet, but you better come over here and speak your way. The future is coming on over there."

He points to the group of leaders already talking, and offers a hand to help her up.

Grishnod spies Bastala, "I also see the deceitful fruit of my loins has managed to survive."

Dreyrugr sees both Grishnod and Bastala. "So do tell what happened with the trials. Who's the clan leader currently out of you two, or have you come to some sort of an agreement?"

As Purpearl moves around the bridge, salvaging what she can, she passes by Haldor. "I believe I borrowed these from you not long ago. Thank you." And Purpearl returns the Heavy Metal Rod and the Gladiator's Helmet to Haldor.

Purpearl then rejoins the circus.

Nelvyn turns to Purple and smiles.

"Don't suppose I could convince you to come along, no? I'm sure Boris wouldn't mind having another mage around."

"I will gladly follow, Nelvyn. Where will we be travelling to may I ask?

Borris, can I have my Topaz back please?"

Purpearl turns to Cinna and returns her Healing Staff and High Heels. "Thank you for your help, Cinna."

"Seems like we just missed the action." Grishnod spies Bastala, "I also see the deceitful fruit of my loins has managed to survive."

The orc dismounts and strides over to the group with looks of distrust given to Valentino and the Kingdom contingent.

"Not quite the welcome wagon I was hoping for though..."

Hoke nods to Grishnod, "I offered her a chance to surrender and a peaceful return to her home, but she refused. Seems she had other plans. If only you would have arrived a little earlier, we could have avoided this huge mess, but fate had other plans."

"The ungrateful whelp thought escaping to lead "her" people on the front lines would win her some sympathy back home. Perhaps if she had been slain in battle, but defeat at the hands of a ragtag band of kingdom heroes won't serve to buy her back any loyalty. They may do with her what they wish, but I am the one to be dealt with where it concerns Clan Irlaz."

"Mayhaps this misguided venture and subsequent defeat will only solidify your position and weaken her's in the sight of your people. Either which way, tis sad when a child attempts to usurp their parents."

Hoke turns once again and scans the waters to see if the ships were still engage in a battle.

Speaking first to Raguel she said.

Yes you are being sold to appease the orcs. Your death buys freedom from fear of the orcs. Their threat will end. Is your life worth any less? Are the people you serve not worth your service even to the point of death? If your death keeps your prince from the same fate, do you not go gladly?

"Selling me does not bring freedom from fear. It breeds fear. Giving into a foe makes them only stronger, only bigger. But if my death can buy time, then so be it. Hopefully the Kingdoms can prepare for the third invasion in time."

Raguel kneels down on his knees and looks up at the Orcs expectantly.

Killing you proves the Kingdoms are serious about change, and gives the orcs the retribution they want. The Kingdoms where preparing for no invasion under you, they were starting one.

Hoke turns once again and scans the waters to see if the ships were still engage in a battle.

Hoke was able to see a small, broken fleet of longships sailing off into the distance, with the two larger ships parting ways, the Bonaparte ship chasing down the longships, the white brig heading for the bridge.

Bastala stood with Haldor's help, her lip curled in unbridled ferocity, then loosened into a sigh.

11059403515_949a8a6b6a_t.jpg

"I respect you, father. Do not doubt that. But don't expect me to be the model, traditional orc Naltar and Erunolaz were. They were your sons, and they died trying to protect you, but I will not do the same simply because it is expected of me. I have my followers, and they know who their leader is. I won't stand in the way of you driving our clan into the ground because tradition dictates it, but when you and your council start dwindling in the face of change, I want you to know that I won't give you so much as a single word of advice. You died once to me already, and I mourned you. I won't waste time doing so again."

With that, she turned her back on Grishnod, returning to Haldor.

"Not yet, but you better come over here and speak your way. The future is coming on over there."

11059403515_949a8a6b6a_t.jpg

"I have no patience for dealing with them. None of the clan leaders are going to choose me over a tried-and-true traditionalist like Grishnod. Change is staring them in the face and they still won't acknowledge THEY have to change too." She shook her head. "You're pretty much the only direct support I had in the Clanmeet. For that, I thank you. But it's not all for naught yet. If Karstaal is willing to acknowledge change...perhaps I can convince him to take a more immediate approach to it. His council's dead, after all. If I help him...maybe this is not a lost cause after all. And I suppose I could help out in the rebuilding of Imaestym. Dear Rook still owes me a few favors." She grinned slyly and looked at Haldor. "What of you? Scratch saving a country off your list and go kill a dragon or something?"

"Selling me does not bring freedom from fear. It breeds fear. Giving into a foe makes them only stronger, only bigger. But if my death can buy time, then so be it."

"Your death eases tensions. But it is worth nothing."

Tra-Serral walked behind Raguel, bringing her katar across his throat in one fluid motion. The paladin crumpled to the ground in a pool of blood. There's silence for a moment.

11059485156_812e4aa89a_t.jpg

"Good."

"If that is all....it is time I returned to my men."

He turned to Olmstyr's party.

"Heroes, you've done what three centuries of isolation could not. You have brought together the orc clans under a single banner. We remain independent, but stand united against any that threaten our homeland, thanks to you. You are the first outsiders in countless decades to have helped my people, and will be remembered among the warlords of old as if Tarok had granted you His own favor. I speak for all my race when I say we would be proud to call each of you Orc-kin."

Karstaal handed Guts, Thormanil, Haldor, Dyric, Alexandre, and Alexis 50 gold apiece. All six of them also gained a full level of experience.

"You know what you're talking about. Moving on and pushing for interaction is the only way to stop crap like this happening again."

10827719863_7b8303b022_t.jpg

"My thoughts exactly! I hear I have all of you to thank for helping rescue me and bring vengeance on those who devastated my people. It will take time, but Imaestym will be rebuilt and renewed. Once everyone's got a bed and a roof over their heads, I'm thinking of commissioning a mural as a monument. The Battle of Augustus Bridge....the first of many orcish works to be seen by any who venture into our fair country."

Olmstyr leaned back against one of the bridge's ramparts and sighed. For once, it wasn't in despair over Baltarok or the quibbling of the clans. It was in relief....and accomplishment.

Hoke's stomach turned at the macabre scene. It was sickening for such a warrior to be killed in such a nonchalant manner. He watched as the blood rapidly pooled around the paladin and started to flow down the bridge.

"I have no love for this man, but he should be respected with a proper burial. His sacrifice has saved untold numbers. May the paladin's hatred of the orcs die with him and may those that live continue on in peace"

As he spoke, Hoke picked up the paladin's staff and handed it to Prince David.

"It's time for a new beginning for the paladins of the Northern Kingdoms."

"There's only one paladin around to hear you. I've heard tell of just what the Order thinks of orcs, and of Baltarok. I don't know if they'll appreciate us killing one of their number and rooting out their influence here. But I don't think we have anything to worry about, at least at the moment. They're a world away and don't have the numbers they used to."

"Ah, hell. I've been thinking this over for a while, and I think my mind is made. See, it's that whole stacking-up and moving-on stuff that makes this job what it is. Before I came here, I opened the doors for a revolution in a far land no-one's ever heard of - and before that it was slaying god-complexes down in crap ancient temples. I feel that... sometimes I'm wasting my time. Soon as I left, who's to say that everything ain't just about to default to piss-poor and it'll have all been for nothing? Making a difference is about sticking with something 'till it kills you, or you see it through. There's always going to be another bloke to kill that dragon. I've got where I am, and walking away to go and do something bloody else isn't fun anymore. I'd like..."

He paused.

"I'd like more than nothing else to know that what I've done is gonna make things better, and have them stay that way. You know, maybe you'll need a thick-head head to do the leg work for you while you make your way back to where you need to be. Change is what the hell this place needs if it's to build itself up and out - I'm happy to get kicked-about for that kind of future. I'd like to stay with you... stay and work with you, rather. If you'd have me."

The nord smiled weakly.

Guts shrugged. "Keep your garrison here well fortified and well supplied, Tarvalk. Look after Gor and his people. He's a valuable ally, and your neighbour as well. My last piece of advice. It was an honor to help the Orcs, if what we did helped. I hope we never meet again, as it would mean fighting on Orcish soil again."

The raider smirked: "If the Kingdoms do want to try their luck again though, send for me."

Sorry about my absence. (again.) Had my laptops fan replaced.

"Sure." Mirona tossed the Dreyrugr's sword back to him before turning to Baradock. "You going to be alright?"

Baradock looked past her, holding on to the silence he seemed to find so much comfort in. Roaming around in his own head was work enough.

Baradock'll take the Heavy Armor 60g and Grand Potion, Chromeknight.

Dyric sighs deeply. Hey, look. If you see an Eyric Rone while you're there... tell him I'm alright, okay? Tell him about what we did here. That I need to keep doing this, no matter what. Tell him I may see him again eventually... but for the moment, Heroica needs me.

"Of course. Gor is leading our forces as we speak. Perhaps he'll be best suited to commanding the garrison. I fear there may be issues with Clan Aj-Kahr in the future. But most of their army followed Gor when he left. They will be trouble, but not a threat."

Nerwen nodded imperceptibly at Gocklo.

The ruby held in his hand behind his back glowed in power as Raguel's body and seperated head flashed into sudden searing flame.

May your god grant you to haunt this bridge, striking any who cross with evil intent.

"Neat trick," whispers Gocklo. He chuckles.

A lone horse rides towards the bridge. The rider dismounts, climbs the stairs, and the heroes are able to identify him as King Speros, King of the Four Boulders. He looks at the dead bodies with quiet calm, and then addresses the heroes he recognizes, though his eyes often drift to the Orcs.

"Heroes. It looks that you've defended the bridge." He bows very stiffly and very barely. "Congratulations, and thank you. It was the right thing to do. I have helped the Nords to flee from Carn, and have ensured that they will not act in violence towards the High Kingdoms again. Hopefully sparing them was the right thing to do. I believe that the Fire Nords are honorable men and know not to attack us again, after we have spared them. Hopefully our mercy was not misplaced." The King looks at Raguel's charred body. "And hopefully the Red Lizards will seek no further vengeance on the Nords."

"Now, heroes, I must ask..." the King sighs. "Did Hamilton manage to stop and retrieve my son? Alive?"
