I'll most likely open/build 41999 over the holidays ... others, they will most likely go into a time capsule and re-surface 10 years down the road

I still have some non-technic sets unopened. Basically it's the Minecraft Nether set and the Cuusoo DeLorean.

Didn't have the proper motivation yet. Though they would be a nice one hour timefiller each.

My extra 41999 has been opened buy the guy i bought it from but other than that its not been touched.

8043 which is in a box along with an extra 42006. Not opened yet as i haven't started to build it.

Personaly I don't think this tread should be here, but in a more general corner. I don't have any technic sets on hold, because I don't build with it. I do have a spare DeLorean and the LEGO store set on hold. Don't know what I'll do with the latter.

I build, destroy and use the parts elsewhere 'caus it's fun to build !!

My 8109 flatbed, still have it hiding in the basement If I build it, my kid will play with it (and probably get his finger stuck in some mechanism!), flea-bay prices aren't high enough (yet) to justify a resale, and don't need the parts (yet), so there is sits in a kitty-proof garment storage bag.

I have 1 Helm's Deep, 2 Constitution Trains, 1 Jet-Copter Encounter, and a few small LotR sets still in the packaging because I want to sell them in the future. I'm hoping the money I get from them will be enough to pay for the ones I bought for myself.

i still have 10212 Imperial Shuttle and 10215 Obi Wan Starfighter on hold, merely because not enough space in my room :)

My almost six year old son has been a `LEGO junkie' for a couple of years now. More recently he's shown lots of interest in mechanical things, e.g., how gears and pulleys work, so I unpacked a couple of my old LEGO sets from when I was a kid. Junior and daddy had fun building the 854 Go-Kart and 853 Auto Chassis together so I picked up some more studded Technic sets from my `Dark Ages' for us to build. We're currently constructing the 8868 Airtech Claw Rig ("Air pumps are super cool!" according to junior) and the 8880: Super Car is the next set in the build queue. Earlier this year I started keeping an eye out for more recent studless sets that I thought would appeal to my son (who likes construction machinery, helicopters and trucks) and myself. Since then I've bought the sets above (generally at sales, on BrickLink or by keeping a patient eye on eBay) and they are stashed in the cupboard for building together in the future. By my standards that's a significant amount of money tied up in little plastic pieces but my son and I have fun playing with LEGO together and my wife and I now have lots of future presents in hand.

I have about 50 sets sitting in my storge area (closet in my studio) from the new Sydney Opera House, modulars not yet assembled, extra copies of the modulars, an extra Midevil Village Marketplace, an extra Emerald Night (will probably sell) several LOTR and Hobbit sets (bought mostly for parts), mostly "big box" sets and numerous small sets.

Many of sets I bought for parts, some to assemble. My excuse is time and motivation, but when I retire late Spring I intend to start assembling sets and part out sets for my inventory. Call it my retirement present to myself.

Retire though? Who in this modern day and age (and scr*w*d-up economy) can even think of that?

Though, I agree ... Legos for retirement sound like a pretty colorful/fulfilling occupation.

I think I've got about two cubic meters full of kits I haven't gotten to yet, including pretty much all of the recent high end Technic releases, the Death Star play set, Ewok Village, Sydney Opera House and a spare City Hall modular (that I picked up because I had such a backlog of sets I didn't realize I already had one).

I like having unopened kits on hand to cheer myself up after a bad day at work or to keep myself entertained if my wife is out of town on business. It also comes in handy if friends with kids show up from out of town and we need a distraction so the adults can catch up. I also know from experience that the appeal of Lego sets waxes and wanes with me, sometimes there are dozens of Must-Haves and I don't want to miss any of them - other times I feel almost forced into a dark age because everything in their catalog either doesn't resonate with me at all, or I already own it; so it's good to have a few big kits in reserve to get me through the lean times.

I think I'm at a lifetime high in terms of backlog at the moment though. I have so little spare time in the first place, and what little I've had in the past six months has really all been getting poured into a MOC I started last summer, once I get through with that, however, I think getting back to a quiet routine of "just follow the instructions" will be a refreshing change of pace.

Thank you, that's exactly it: I'm only into Technic ... Not too interested in how many polybags John AFOL has grabbed during the last TRUs sale and saving for his upcoming Super Metropolis build ... but that is alright, gotta be able to 'filter' somehow amongst all answers.

We've been planning for years and years and years and (big and) we got very lucky and didn't lose what we had during he downturn/crash of 2008.

I do plan to get a part-time job (eventually), only something fun (if it stops being fun I will do something else, no long-term job commitment) for an additional hobby and a chance to be with others.

Part of the plan was my studio we had remodeled earlier this year (didn't know it at the time) but it was only recently that by adding all the numbers that we decided that this was the year I could retire.

I really want to devote much of my time to LEGO! My new primary job... My LEGO!

Well, congrats on getting to devote more time to things that really are important. Btw, if a person was diversified, the 2008 didn't mean a whole lot in your long term planning. Sure, I saw my stocks and mutual funds go down, but they've all more than rebounded. I know some people who sold at the bottom and they did get hurt. Had they rode out the storm, they would have had gains by now. Instead,they chose to lock in their losses.

I have 9394 sitting on my shelf ready to build and I know I have a couple of sets under the Christmas tree from my wife :)

I have a few. The CITY airport, and the large set from the current Mining theme. The large Alien Conquest ADU command vehicle, Helms Deep, Goblin Kings Battle and a couple of other LORT/HOBBIT ones. Ice Planet 2002 base set.

Basically if I like a theme I try and get all the sets. The smaller ones I make up and then can store in storage boxes, but usually the largest ones are too big. I want them to complete the series but they normally do not get built. It is a case of waiting for a time when I can affords or inherit a bigger house, then I will build them. I do want them as I said I like to have a whole theme if I collecting it, but storage is at a premium right now.

For sets I intend on opening, I have DGA and MEA from the new DoS line, which I got last week; Goblin King Battle from AUJ, the Parrot Perch Friends Animal Pack, and the the Christmas Tree Creator polybag I got a few weeks ago; and that white Creator car from early 2013 which I got in the Summer. I haven't opened these as I can't find the time to build 'em. So busy.

And, well, I don't wanna build the Creator Car set. It's... eh. I got it 70% off, though.

I only have 3, 6864 The Batmobile and the Two Face Chase, 6858 Catwoman Catcycle City Chase, and 6860 the Batcave.

The only reason I haven't opened them up, is because they're my Christmas presents. If I get the money though, I'll buy Jabba's Palace and edit this post. Christmas this year will be fun.

A few polybags such as Lone Rangers pump cart, Frodo's cooking corner and Batman's Jet Ski.

I also have 8256 Go-Kart, which I don't think I will ever open, as I don't leek Technic.

4705 snapes classroom, 4722 HOUSE OF GRYFFINDOR, 4714 GRINGOTTS BANK , because I found them unopened in the closet a few weeks ago when we started playing with lego again. 31012 Creator Family House because I got it two weeks ago 10211 GRAND EMPORIUM and 10218 Pet Shop, because as a kid I didn't have a credit card LOL , an extra Lone Ranger train set, got it 50% off. I also have about 15 other smaller sets including 4 60016's that we got for only $10 at Toys R Us. I also have the Friends Outdoor Bakery but don't tell any of the guys ok LOL
