Posted December 12, 201311 yr Pieces: 112 retail price: € 9.99 Apparently the Friends 2014 are already available in Holland, I bought this small box yesterday at a local toy store. Contents of the two bags: Printed cookies, printed lemonade sign, no decals. You start by putting Mia and the scooter together. The scooter can't stand on its own, it has to be supported by the bucket handle, of which an extra one is included. Then you build a crate and a chair. Mia keeps falling off. Even if the chair had studs on top, it would not help, because the friends minidolls can't sit on studs. The finished lemonade stand: Flickr keeps giving me server errors, so I cannot acces my photostream. I'll try again later and hopefully finish this review.
December 12, 201311 yr I was already tempted to buy some friends sets in the past, but though they sometimes have great parts in interesting colors, I never did. But this set I will surely get. That scooter is just to good to pass, and the rest of the parts look nice too. Is that the normal minifig pilot helmet in red that is included in this set? or is it a new model? Just can't get used to those creepy minidolls..
December 12, 201311 yr Author Okay, Flickr seems to be working okay again, on we go. A challenger appears on a different brand of scooter: Mia puts on her helmet, her freind puts on her hairpiece and they admire each others scooters. As you can see, the brickforge one only has one stud at the back ans so is slightly shorter. It also has a handle bar that's more suitable for minifigs. taking a ride on each others bikes. It looks a bit awkward, putting a regular minifig on this scooter with the Friends handlebar (part 98397), so might wanna swap it with part 30031. I think that is the handlebbar that was used with the scooter of the parisian restaurant modular. I must have that piece here somewhere, but could not find it in time, so I cannot confirm if it works. Hitching a ride on the back of the scooter, something Mia will never be able to do, well maybe standing up. And finally, the spare parts. Okay, so what do I like about this set? + printed cookies, printed lemonade sign + flower pot + the color of the scooter (not pink) + the helmet looks nice and you can use it on a regular minifig + you get a lot for such a small set Things I did not like so much: - scooter cannot stand on its own, this in contrast to the brickforge one. - the Mia minidoll is really overused now - Mia cannot sit on the back of the scooter - you have to swap out the handlebar to make it more minfig compatible. Final rating: 8/10. Is that the normal minifig pilot helmet in red that is included in this set? or is it a new model? Just can't get used to those creepy minidolls.. I don't know about the helmet, it looks new to me, maybe someone else knows. Yeah, I don't like the minidolls either, seeing how limited they are, but maybe let's not start that discussion again. I knew wat to expect when I bought the set.
December 12, 201311 yr Bought this set today aswell and I can confirm that the proposed change in steering part makes it possible for minifigs to properly drive their vespa.
December 12, 201311 yr Thanks for showing off this set. This to me is the best $10-price-range Friends set yet. You just get so much cool stuff with this one! It is the same old pilot helmet, but in (what looks like) dark pink. I can't say I really understand your complaints about the scooter. Bikes in real life need kickstands, and it's brilliant that the designer made it so that the bike could use an existing piece for a new purpose. The handle-bar swapping feature also seems like a terrific design and way to make this a more versatile piece that can be used for both Minidolls and Minifigures. With the dolls around, it's a problem that all previous vehicles of this type had fixed handlebars designed for minifigs. This great new mould solves that problem!
December 12, 201311 yr I really like this set. The more of it I see, the more it confirms that I'll be buying two, at least. Even if only for the cookies, but the scooter and pilot helmet and printed sign are nice additions too. Thanks for the review.

I don't have many helmets, so I did not know that. With the brickforge scooter, you can drive around and then stop without it falling over. With the lego one, you can't, you first have to put the kickstand down, or drive with the kickstand against the ground. It's true that in real life bikes need kickstands, but in real life you can put your legs on the ground, something a minfig can't do.
December 12, 201311 yr This is one of the 2014's sets I'm looking forward to. Hopefully, it'll be available in stores soon. Where did you get it? In LEGO store (I can't find it on S@H). The set has a nice selection of bricks, with the scooter and cookies being the highlights.

The set has a nice selection of bricks, with the scooter and cookies being the highlights. I bought it at the local "Intertoys" here, not online. Was surprised to find it there. They also had some small 2014 city sets there. We almost never get new Lego sets early here in Holland.
December 12, 201311 yr I like how the stand charges $1 for lemonade and yet can only accept $100 bills. I need to find a business model like that!
January 7, 201411 yr Thanks for the super-quick review! I find it a bit odd that the scooter needs a kick-stand too, purely from a parent POV - my 5yo will probably become frustrated by the standing/falling over scooter. Also, mini-dolls are a pain to sit, but they can - it's all about balance. Try putting both of Mia's arms down by her sides, instead of one up one down - I think the larger hands can weigh 'em down and over balance them!
