JM1971 Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 (edited) Goals: To be made with parts only from the 9398 set. 2 L motors, Servo Motor. (motors represented by other lego parts because they are not present in LDD) Front and Rear Suspention. Based on the Honda ATC because its the only bike I can think of that can use the 9398 wheels. legomuppet9 Posted December 22, 2013 Posted December 22, 2013 looks interesting, seeing as though I have this set I might build it Quote
JM1971 Posted December 22, 2013 Author Posted December 22, 2013 You are missing 0 of 211 parts (you have 100%) After checking with rebrickable all seems fine so far, I need to build to find and fix any problems, this means pulling my rock crawler apart again lol. cgg199 Posted December 22, 2013 Posted December 22, 2013 (edited) I love the ATC, every single model of it. Great fun to ride too, if you ever get the chance. Just as a matter of interest, which model of ATC are you basing it on. It looks a lot like the 110 but that does;t have suspension, so I'm guessing it must be the 250ES. The above ATC which I think is the 250cc, I only ever seen one once but never had the chance to ride it, biggest bike I've been on was a 125cc scambler, the accelleration was Quote
legomuppet9 Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 (edited) I'll build it now Edit: found a problem on step 7 as the 5M red beam can't go through the back of the L Motor, on the LDD model you made of them that section does not appear... maybe change them to 3L beams? I think there's enough in the 9398 set although I'm not sure Edited December 23, 2013 by legomuppet9 Quote
JM1971 Posted December 23, 2013 Author Posted December 23, 2013 (edited) I see what you mean the wire is there, the beam has to be strong to hold the servo in place, I'll have to remove the red 5 beams and use a single 5 red beam instead of the 3 light grey beam in the middle, I really should test stuff before posting, oops There are two 3m red beams and six light grey, plenty. Quick Fix http://www.brickshel...ndaATC/temp.lxf The problem is assassins creed black flag, I cant stop playing Edited December 23, 2013 by JM1971 Quote
Lakop Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 I look forward to seeing it in action. H Quote
legomuppet9 Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 (edited) I am almost 100% certain it'll be strong enough without that beam in the middle, it ain't moving nowhere, its very tight space wise to squeeze everything together but it's just about ok, but a small bit of redesigning may be in order . Will finish it tomorrow morning and take pictures then, so far it's a very neat build! And challenging too... but that's just the LDD auto generating instructions for you Edited December 23, 2013 by legomuppet9 Quote
JM1971 Posted December 23, 2013 Author Posted December 23, 2013 (edited) I hope so and those ldd instructions are sometimes impossible. If it works it should be pretty quick and looking forward to see if it does, I'll be dismantling my crawler tomorrow, the reason I haven't is my dad spent 2 days making it last last week and hes a bit narked I want to take it apart, lolz. legomuppet9 Posted December 24, 2013 Posted December 24, 2013 Quick warning, the 2x4 L beams that connect to the diff casing are probably going to be quite interesting to get out Quote
JM1971 Posted December 24, 2013 Author Posted December 24, 2013 OMG that was a daft idea I had :O quick fix 2 http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/JM1971/HondaATC/temp.lxf Quote
legomuppet9 Posted December 24, 2013 Posted December 24, 2013 Basic report: It works P1070276 by legomuppet9, on Flickr Long report: The steering is a tad flimsy P1070275 by legomuppet9, on Flickr P1070274 by legomuppet9, on Flickr The rear suspension can't do much P1070273 by legomuppet9, on Flickr And the housing for the servo motor is very tight P1070272 by legomuppet9, on Flickr Sorry for the below par photos, tried to get it out ASAP, but I think you can still understand everything Quote
JM1971 Posted December 24, 2013 Author Posted December 24, 2013 (edited) Pics are fine, I also built it and the steering defiantly needs some serious work also suspension needs looking at, the gearbox and drive are good and it goes like a stabbed rat Edited December 24, 2013 by JM1971 Quote
JM1971 Posted December 29, 2013 Author Posted December 29, 2013 Redesign of the front. LDD... http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/JM1971/HondaATC/honda_atc.lxf Quote
JM1971 Posted December 29, 2013 Author Posted December 29, 2013 (edited) It works!!! Wobbly steering needs further attention, maybe gearing down the speed to avoid parts getting broke. Edited January 6, 2014 by JM1971 Quote
Junpei Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 Who needs gearing down? Looks pretty fun to play with to me, something like that would be pretty boring if it's geared down IMO. Looks pretty good so far! TLH Quote
Kronos Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 Who needs gearing down? Agreed! Great job! Adding a body (weight) will slow it down a little anyway... Your dog sure isn't impressed . Quote
JM1971 Posted December 30, 2013 Author Posted December 30, 2013 Agreed! Great job! Adding a body (weight) will slow it down a little anyway... Your dog sure isn't impressed . If you look at him in the video he keeps watching me and if I was to look away he attacks the bike, the servo noise seems to set him off Quote
legomuppet9 Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 Ah that looks much better, cleaner too Quote
JM1971 Posted December 30, 2013 Author Posted December 30, 2013 Thx guys, the mechanics are done, heavy collisions might knock the steering out of alignment I doubt it though because the shocks are flexible enough to absorb impacts. Body work next, this might be hard because parts will get more and more limited. http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/JM1971/HondaATC/honda_atc.lxf Quote
JM1971 Posted January 3, 2014 Author Posted January 3, 2014 (edited) Completely redone the steering but due to the way the gears are the steering is offset 5 degrees, added some bodywork. Edited January 6, 2014 by JM1971 Quote
Gee Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 Looks pretty cool. I like the way you've got the steering working. Quote
JM1971 Posted January 4, 2014 Author Posted January 4, 2014 (edited) Thx, finally got the steering to go straight and pretty much finished it off, LDD link is on first post and below, will do a video soon. If you have set 9398 (Rock Crawler) then you can build this. LDD http://www.brickshel...C/honda_atc.lxf Edited January 4, 2014 by JM1971 Quote
legomuppet9 Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 Very nicely done in the end, that steering works a lot better Quote
