Posted December 22, 201311 yr Playable A380 in LEGO catalogue 2016? Ever since the two level aircraft Airbus A380 was introduced to the market I have waited and hooped for the release of a playable LEGO A380 model. I haven´t seen it yet by I´m still hoping for the set… This forum topic is for the supporters for such a set. I´ve tried the LEGO CUUSOO but my model was rejected due to the new rules that apply from December 2013. Nowadays new suggested parts, such as my suggested cockpit, are no longer allowed. Please post your own ideas of the A380 or just support my concept. Keep in mind that this forum topic should be versions that are playable and should be in a “realistic” price range… Edited December 22, 201311 yr by Rick Edited topic title
December 22, 201311 yr Hello from a fellow aircraft enthusiast who feels lego should focus more on aviation and add details. As such I like the idea of your model. As someone who MOCs my own planes, I have often avoided double decker A380s or 747s because the nose is just to hard to recreate with lego parts at the scale such as your model. Cockpit parts inspired by real life aircrafts are therefore a good idea. Did you actually create a part or is your picture just photoshopped? If you did create one I wouldn't mind seeing more pictures of the model as you envision it. I fear however a bit more would need to happen to create a real A380 as it would look a little bulky especially in the back with the parts created by lego for the city airliners so probably other parts would need to be created as well to create more details. In terms of playability lego has also probably stayed away from double deckers as it would present a problem with accessing the ground floor. They did come up with a system with the train 'Club Car' (4547-1) which could be applied to a airplane model but by then piece count might no longer make the price range worth it, which is why I doubt an A380 would happen. And lego has stayed away from realistic planes for such a long time for city products that I don't see them changing course now to make them more realistic. If an A380 is ever produced by lego it could either be as a miniature model, or as an expensive expert series, sort of like the Dreamliner, but as even the Dreamliner was far from perfect, I don't really see how an A380 could live up to expectations. Sorry to disappoint, but I do like the idea and would love to see it happen, I just don't see it happening PS: I seem to recall a lego knockoff that produced an A380 but can't seem to find it at the moment, it was licensed by Airbus as well, but wasn't minifig size so not really what you are looking for, but good to know it was done PPS: Found it; it's best-lock, if you look up Best-Lock A380 in Google you can find it, as I remembered it's not minifig size, but I think that's as close as we'll ever get to a lego release of the A380 Edited December 22, 201311 yr by mapimi
December 22, 201311 yr Author Thanks for the reply, "mapimi"! Well I guess you are right otherwise I would have seen it already.... The cockpit and the rear part are modelled by me in CREO (former ProEngineer) and printed in ABS on a Stratasys Uprint machine. So it´s not a Photoshop work. December 23, 201311 yr As an aviation fan myself I do think that Lego should make a realistic looking plane. However there are certain parts that makes this impossible. 1. The current aircraft parts. The parts available now isn't universal, for example TLG would need to make new molds such as a bigger nose, bigger tail, bigger wings, and more. 2. The price. It would be too expensive to make the necessary parts. Like what 'mapimi' said, if an A380 is to be made by Lego. It would probably be in miniscale or a large exclusive set like the 787 Dream)liner released a couple years ago.
December 29, 201311 yr Author I´ve made an updated YouTube-clip. Now you can see the inside of my version of the A380.
January 21, 201510 yr you should sell this on ebay or make your own website to sell it on. I would love to see it for sale.
February 4, 20169 yr Hi, I am trying as well to do an a380 but for the moment i still lock with the front . But i continue to search a solution for that !!!!
February 4, 20169 yr Very nice but in my opinion as someone who MOCs alot of planes i would make it slightly longer to compensate for the height. But otherwise fantasic job. The interior is amazing :) Maybe longer wings would make it look even better
