JeagerEX Posted December 24, 2013 Posted December 24, 2013 I heard someone replied one of my topic that I created in Toys N Bricks forum that he said there's nothing much profit in every country in Asia because of all the counterfeits that are running rampant. Hopefully there's LEGOLAND in Malaysia, but no either LEGO Store and Discovery Center. Quote
bacem Posted December 24, 2013 Posted December 24, 2013 probably lego just have different strategy? i heard they about to build lego factory in china. Quote
Faefrost Posted December 24, 2013 Posted December 24, 2013 I think part of it is that they have long had a dedicated merchant partner in at least Japan, that has well fulfilled that business role. As such they have not felt the need to push into what might be viewed as that partners territory. I'm sure they have plans for China, but the rash of counterfit Apple stores may make them take it slow. Really the main candidates would be Japan, south Korea, and certain parts of Chine. Beijing, Hong Kong, Maybe Singapore and maybe Taipei. Malaysia is probably not in the economic target zone just yet. But in a few years who knows? Quote
Dat Lego Posted December 24, 2013 Posted December 24, 2013 Counterfeits running rampant? From my experience I don't see many people buying the counterfeits here in Indonesia, yet not many people buy Lego as well. But on the other hand people don't buy counterfeits in Singapore, yet people buy Lego in Singapore more often. TLG is making a factory in China and a distribution center in Shanghai. Maybe then we'll see some stores in Asia soon. My candidates are Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, and Singapore because they have a strong presence there. Quote
LEGO Historian Posted December 24, 2013 Posted December 24, 2013 TLG has had a presence in Asia going as far back as 1962 (sales started in Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong). Granted things were slow for several decades, but eventually the LEGO presence was more prevalent there. I think that questioning why there aren't LEGO stores in a particular country is sort of premature. When you look at the worldwide list of LEGO stores outside of the USA, Canada, Germany and Britain... there are only 7 stores!! Even Denmark only has 1 store. http://stores.lego.com/en-us/stores I think that TLG is doing this slowly and methodically. Granted it's much slower than most here would like, and anying for many (especially the most LEGO intensive country in the world... Netherlands!). But eventually LEGO stores will get to many more countries... it's just a matter of WHEN.... Quote
Fikko3107 Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 Well, If I'm not mistaken, ClickBrick in Japan is an official LEGO Store, or at least, officially supported by LEGO. And if my memory serves me right, there's a Discovery Center in Japan. Nagoya, I think? I think it's safe to assume that Japan is a market that LEGO went for. But yeah, I suppose it's true that the demands here isn't large enough (at least yet) to warrant an Official LEGO Store. As far as I know, my country don't even have an active LUG! Quote
