B Rick Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 Kinda disappointed by the non-compatibility of the two Monsterfighters sets 'vampyre hearse' and 'haunted house', I build the house a bit larger and now the hearse a bit smaller. The hearse had allready been modded to my own taste, but now was the time to build a smaller version for my house. First time I ever tried and build a 7-stud wide car. And man, that comes with problems... It took me quite a while but I think I did okay. I used snot techniques, for instance the front-end and the windscreen. Most of the rest is a basic traditional Lego build. Oh, and it is still minifig-friendly. It contains a zombie-chaufeur and a vampyre-filled coffin! ^ Figuring out how to narrow the wheelspacing was quite a challenge. It is now hold on by a single row of 4 studs and two 2x2 jumperplates. ^ As compared to my 'original' hearse... ^ The new version has the coffin sticking out a bit in the back, for a more grotesque view Well, it does add a little bit of drama ofcourse... ^ 7-studs vs 8-studs ^ The reason for schrinking the hearse: My Modified Haunted House. Both look way better together as well as on their own. Quote

Thanks Jorrith, I'm pleased the way it came out. Ofcourse I stumbled upon lots of problems building a 7stud but I kinda enjoyed the bigger challange than the average Lego kids-skill, now that I've grown up... (kind of...) One thing I hate though is the running out of bricks that I really need. I've run out of all of the uneven bricks. Especially plates. 1x1s, 1x3s, 2x3s, gold round 1x1s, etc. That makes building a 7stud or a 5stud REALLY hard... I don't like to yank it off of some of my previous builds, but I had to, and I did... Running out of the right bricks you need is very frustrating, and i am also struggeling too building stuff... Lego has changed in so many ways the last 20 years, that you have to rethink how you want to build it, because there are so much new possibilties that were unavailable during childhood. Quote

(More love than hate though... ) After my childhood and late teens my interest faded away especially when I noticed al these 'special' bricks that came out. Always thought those bricks interfered with a childs imagination and creativity. Until I 'recently' saw the amazing stuff that was being build. By adults! Discovering that those special bricks were being used in a VERY creative way other than Lego intended in the first place made me re-think my negative opinion... Another 'hate-factor' was Lego buying the rights of movies to produce stuff like Harry Potter and Starwars sets and what not. But somehow I made a 180° turn and think it's the best Lego has ever done. For themselves, but also for the buying public. We are in a situation where the buying public is feeding off the Lego-group and vice-versa. I think it is a unique situation for a toy-manufacturer and I hope it will last a long time. I've since then been oogling the new appealing sets that came out, but it wasn't until the official Monsterfighters Hearse release that really made me want to buy new Lego. It took me another year or so to buy one, but the rest is history.... errrr future. And then I realised that I had to brush up my Lego building skills and find out what techniques where being used. Some builds are truly mindblowing, and I especially have a soft spot for ingenious tiny builds using a small amount of bricks. I for instance love the microbuild-series of the starwars ships. Although I never bought one because, well, they cost a lot... So, now all these adventcalenders are up for sale everywhere, I might go pick one up... Quote

In his ever continuing search for for fresh blood in the form of children and young adults Lord Vampyre ordered one of his zombie henchmen to get into the old carport-garage and rebuild the old hearse into a hotrod icecream-truck. ^ Before spraypainting the old hearse into a virgin white color, mr Zombie made shure he masked off all the other parts that had to stay clean... As I said before, this mini-version was based on my modified Monster Fighters hearse, so it had the same front. After a while I wanted some of the grotesque features the original MF hearse had back on my own moc. So back came the evil looking headlights, a subtle bumper, and sort of a teeth-like grille. But in a '50s custom kinda way. There are probably a bit more alterations, not worthy of mentioning ;) And stay tuned for my pimped out icecream truck... (...and thanks for the kind words MicroM!) The lack of my original childhood lego collection makes it neccessary to buy the stuff brick by brick ^^. Hi Mark, I really don't know anymore. I've bought two, maybe three sets of the hearse, and I'm sure I used a lot of my childhood bricks. I really need to break it apart to see. As you may have noticed I've build three versions. Zombie icecream truck and the Ecto 1. All with small, but very important differences. The Ecto 1 is the best, for it has the better structure. I will redo this black hearse again and will post pics. For now you'll just have to look at these pics. There are a few that show some of it's secrets... ;-) Quote

Your little hearse is such a faithful reproduction of the large one on a small scale - it fits in so well with the haunted house. I also like the bumper on the updated hearse - the jumper plates poking out at the bottom are nifty. Quote

Fun an d creepy design, but somehow they didn't fit together sizewise... So, the house got bigger and the car ad to become smaller. It tends to be a difficult job to transform a car to a 7 stud wide vehicle but the challenge is really fun. Somehow it fits the minifigures the best, imho. Quote

If I had instructions, you would get them for free. But I haven't. What I can do however, is to take a car apart and photograph a few steps of the process. I hope I'll be able to do that soon. Didn't feel like taking the whole car apart but I do hope these pics will get you on your way. How I did it is not the best / most sturdy way. But I was and still am short of the right bricks. I always run out of black pieces. especially 3-studs... So maybe you can make it better your way. Make shure to post some pics here when your done. Hint: 2x2 cornerplates (3studs) are very handy in 7stud builds. If you have any questions, don't be affraid to ask. Edited August 7, 2015 by B Rick Quote
