Hi, everybody. I submit to your attention the photoreview of a novelty of 2014 - 60053 Race Car from the City series.

The box from the face has a square form. On it, except the article and the age qualification, the set is represented.

On back part of a box design features of the car are represented. Also, in the lower part it is possible to see some more sets from this series.

Box sizes not the big. That scale was clear, I made some photo with a minifig.

We open a box and inside we find:

- three packages with details

- detail without package and a sticker

- instruction

The instruction surprisingly chubby - in it already 36 pages!

In a set there are a little enough interesting details:

And also new wheels:

New wheels turned out double - on the one hand they approach to automobile cars, as tires with small protectors and interesting disks better. On the other hand they have the same diameter as well as at "old", only they became slightly thinner. And therefore, in my opinion, not really approach to old arches.

The minifigure from this set already met in a set of 2013 - 60025 Grand Prix Truck so new we here won't see anything.

As I have all minifigs of corporal color, alteration of this too didn't become an exception!

We pass to assembly of a racing car. Assembly not difficult therefore I will strongly not focus on it attention - some stages of assembly more than enough.

After assembly there are enough many spare details!

To put a minifig in a car cabin, it is necessary to remove a roof "in the old manner":

We will consider a racing car in all its aspects:

Now we will compare this racing car to a car from a set of 60007 High Speed Chase:

Now again it is a little about new wheels. Because they are a little thinner old, they turn out drowned in a wheel arch that looks not really harmoniously. But if to put wheels of old type, the model turns out more finished:

And now on red sports of carat we will put wheels of new type - looks awfully:

Thus, it is possible to draw a conclusion that these wheels are suitable for models without use of standard arches, or arches of new type that wheels so strongly weren't drowned in inside are necessary.

The conclusion on a set - the car turned out quite nice and stylish, it is a lot of interesting and necessary details.

Thanks for the review 'mifody', I actually love the fact we are getting realistic car tyres so they don't stick out like a sore thumb.......and I don't mind the design though the rear spoiler is a bit lame.

Yep! Those new wheels is exactly what make this set VERY desirable to me - realistic wheels. Finally!

I'm sorry, but I totally disagree about those wheels. It's about time Lego offered modern-looking wheels at this size. They work great with those wheel arches. If there's an problem with this set it's the uninspired headlight treatment.

There's another new set with those same wheels but in grey, the SUV with Watercraft. I stuck those on an existing build of mine and the improvement was instant:

This car came out quite nicely as well:

There's no way that the old wheels would have looked this good.

Thanks for the review! In my view it is a really great looking race car! My son immediately said "Audi R18" and indeed it looks very much like the LeMans prototypes, and their spoilers are huge and I like it :-)

That's exactly what sold me on the set.

I just built this set yesterday, and it's a lovely little design. But I have to agree with Mifody, that the wheels aren't an improvement in this set. Overall, I'd definitely prefer the new wheels to the old - not least because the profile of the tyres is much lower, so they look much more at home on modern cars - but the problem with this set is how they're attached. They look great on a four-wide design that uses the modified 2x2 plate with wide wheel attachment, but not so much six-wide designs with the modified 2x2 plates with the wheel pin on one end - like the set - because the wheel ends up being recessed into the arch. Which you will never find on a sports car of this kind in real life - designers always make sure that the wheels fill the arches.

And with the parts that currently exist in the LEGO selection, you can't make the new wheels flush with the arches in a six-wide design, as far as I can tell.

Edit: I experimented a bit with the wheel design, and snapped a couple of pictures. I have to warn you, though, the last of these four pictures contains serious mutilation of LEGO elements...

Funny, I thought the spoiler was weird too, but my 5yo loves it - it moves!

Nice review, great pics - and this (and Mia's Lemonade Stand) were the first things we bought of the '14 Lego. Such a neat design

That's one hot car!

The new wheels and tires look great. Very modern, as most sporting cars produced these days have big wheels with tires that have short sidewalls. I do agree that on this set, the problem is they are not pushed out far enough to fill the wheel arch flare. Race cars use those fender flares to cover up pushed out, wide tire/wheel combinations. But, it is a $10 set, and this is a detail most kids/adults would not notice anyway.

As for the spoiler (wing), it may look strange, but it is realistic. Sports car racers in many racing circuits have adjustable spoilers that are extended well off the body of the car.

As people have mentioned, I really like the wheels as well. But even more important, I think this is a great set on its own merits. It's really colorful, and the seals I think really add to it as opposed to detracting. The whole year of Great Vehicles looks fun.

Also, thanks for the review, it helped influence my decision to get this set. Its interesting, in pictures (especially on the box) the set looks a little blocky, even with all the rounded pieces. It looks better in person. I'm a little disappointed with the headlight and front lip spoiler (wing) design, but that is just begging me to modify it. I've already built an orange/black copy with pieces from my collection, and I'm going to bricklink parts for a red version so I can set up a racing scene.
