Eurobricks Emperor Bonaparte Posted January 22, 2014 Author Eurobricks Emperor Posted January 22, 2014 A collaborative contest is a brilliant idea guys, that’s a great way of reinforcing the community spirit and having people connect. Actually, you have inspired me to do this contest when you worked together for your winning D2C contest entry (Attack on the Nile). Quote
Yatkuu Posted January 24, 2014 Posted January 24, 2014 Actually, you have inspired me to do this contest when you worked together for your winning D2C contest entry (Attack on the Nile). Haha, that is so cool Tom! I am really glad this experience lead you to organize this event. Collaborating on a contest project is a very different and much more rewarding experience than doing something on your own. Even if you don’t win you nevertheless usually make a friend in the process. Not everyone has the chance or the opportunity to be a member of a LUG and to know other AFOLs IRL so encouraging people to reach out to others is a great idea. I can’t wait to see the first entries show up… we are making good progress on ours… hehe… I do have one question, typically the contests on EB use a voting thread with one picture per entry, hence the importance to use the best possible shot. I’m not sure every team will actually be able to produce a picture that shows the 2 modules in it (heck, I don’t even know if it’s going to be possible!) so… will the voting thread allow 2 pictures per team? Cara Posted January 25, 2014 Posted January 25, 2014 It is being a lot of fun especially since you get to share your Contest MOC with someone as you go along. What could also be fun in a future contest is if we have to share WIP progress each week or two weeks through the process. Then the community would get to share in the process more too! Quote
SkaForHire Posted January 25, 2014 Posted January 25, 2014 Si-MOCs and Louie le Brickvalier have become a team! I am truly honored to have him as my teammate and I look forward to see what we come up with. Legonardo and Cara are a team I was thinking about entering, then I saw these two teams. High level competition here! Ok, maybe I will still enter, I can do a 700 piece set -- who is left without a partner? Quote

Designing a LEGO set is confidential material and preliminary pictures are not allowed. Also that could give away some super secret ideas! Quote

My plan is to have 2 pictures per entry inside the voting thread, and add a link to the entry thread where all the pictures can be seen. So there's no need to try to make one shot with both sets. Would that be allowed? The thing is that not everyone will have the ability to do this, so for the voting topic I'll be using 2 pictures, one of each set. But of course you can add such a combined picture (e.g. made with photoshop) in your entry topic. Quote

Cult_Of_Skaro Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 Are we allowed to send our team member an LDD file of our half, or just images? Quote
Eurobricks Emperor Bonaparte Posted January 31, 2014 Author Eurobricks Emperor Posted January 31, 2014 Are we allowed to send our team member an LDD file of our half, or just images? There's no rule imposing any restrictions of that sort, so feel free to share. Quote

Simon_S Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 Here's my part of the entry. We will create a seperate topic once the one of my teammate is also up, but I already have to post it here, because I'm also going to use it as a part of another contest entry. Quote
Simon_S Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 What is your piece count on that? I don't know. I know that they would be too much for a 75 Euro set, but I rather went by size than by piece count, because I wasn't willing to use Panels and BURPs, because they disallowed much nice little details. Looking at the actual size of it, I don't think it's too big... looks great simon! Thanks mate . Quote
Cara Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 (edited) I don't know. I know that they would be too much for a 75 Euro set, but I rather went by size than by piece count, because I wasn't willing to use Panels and BURPs, because they disallowed much nice little details. Looking at the actual size of it, I don't think it's too big... Size wise I think its great, detail wise I think you are over the piece limit. I like your MOC. I don't mean to pick on you personally, my comments come purely from seeing the first posted entry. I went back and read the rules and notice that the 75E 800 piece count is not listed in the rules section rather in the description. So my question is how flexible or enforcable is this if the MOC is of the right size? I have spent a lot of time so far counting pieces and making hard decisions, if it is flexible I just want to know as that would speed up building immensely. I thought this competition had a hard piece limit and building with the choice of either larger pieces to make a larger MOC or smaller MOC but without for example panels/BURP was part of the competition. It is going to be judged by the general population of the forum who will look at what looks nicer. So a design that uses panels and BURPS and that is constrained by 800 pieces may not be as appealing as an entry that is not so constrained. Edited February 2, 2014 by Cara Quote
Eurobricks Emperor Bonaparte Posted February 2, 2014 Author Eurobricks Emperor Posted February 2, 2014 Cara, the aim is 700 pieces +- 100. I'm ok being flexible on this unless it's obvious it's using a lot more pieces. The entry of Simon_S is ok size/piece wise. Quote

Frank Brick Wright Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 I have two questions: Do we really have to attach our builds through technic pins or is another kind of connection allowed? I'm thinking more specifically about a stud connection. Does the no minifig limit mean that we can build something with ~700 parts and then place something like 12 minifigs without caring about the fact that no ~75€ would have that many figures? Quote

Answers: 1. It have to be technic pins (see contest rules) 2. There's no minifig limit, but there's a total set prize limit set, so you are limited by that, meaning you have to include a reasonable amount of figs as LEGO would do for a set of this size. Quote
