Gatanui Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Chima is getting really...strange in summer. I think it's the weirdest thing I've ever seen from LEGO. All those translucent pieces are awesome and a welcome addition, though a bit overused on the sets themselves in my opinion. -Gata Quote
Darking Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 (edited) Maybe partly because it's not Reddish Brown, it's Dark Brown (a color shared by a grand total of zero constraction parts). It's still cool, but lacking other parts in the same color its usefulness is limited. I'm much more pleased with the Flame Yellowish Orange Savage Planet paws on the Lion vehicle. Wait, then the 4M shell in Mungus' leg is alsp Dark Brown? That doesn't make any sense. I assumed they would be Reddish Brown because that color at least appeared in Ogrum, so giving us more pieces in that tone would have been really nice. Edited January 31, 2014 by Darking Quote
xxlrocka Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 Transparent hands are in them, I'm sold! These sets have a huge amount of potential for MOCing, what with all of these new pieces that seem pretty versatile. We can finally use Dark Brown shells, apparently! More transparent bones for more transparent MOCs! It's parts paradise.... Quote

I think it's reddish brown, like his head/trunk. Quote

It could be either Reddish Brown or Dark Brown; it's hard to tell. However, the torso shell on the mammoth walker is definitely Dark Brown. You can see the contrast between it and Reddish Brown parts in this pic. The short bone and Y-joint in Mungus' trunk are very clearly Reddish Brown. Quote
davidr Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 Well they need to fix in some places, like color schemes and builds. (I know their names, but this is a bit simpler) Phoenix - a bit too long and skinny wings, flames on crossbow are way too "long", piraka feet (in black) are terrible choice, that head is really preliminary. Crocodile - weird color scheme - that gold should be silver, boring weapon, not really crocodile looking. Mammoth - wtf this trunk, unnecesarry white, too skinny, i would make ine of his arms frozen like his leg (that would mean less pieces) and bulk up his torso. But that weapon is glorious. Vulture - way too hollow wings, crazy boring weapon (but awesome sawblade), too short lower legs (one module longer would fit IMO), tan color is great, the head is very preliminary again. Lion - no color contrast, these claws are a bad choice IMO, shoulder armor should be reversed, his hair is on fire or what, we cant see his sword. Panther - ugly figure that doesnt look like a panther to me at all, random right (fire) arm, random left arm, too long neck, only these feet look nice thanks to this new claw piece. Sir Fangar (what tribe is he?) - magnificent cape, great feet, nice design, strange weapon and this stuff on his back, it seems he has moveable jaw which probably has Panthar too when I look at him. Not perfect, but probably the best of these. I'll get Fluminox and Fangar and probably Mungus as well, the others aren't clear enough, so I'll see about them later. BTW we desperately need this torso in normal silver, not just gold or gunmetal. Quote
Kingriedak Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 hey hey hey, im barely here, anyway The Bird:are we getting a female ultrabuild his year? i mean, i doubt it since i don't keep up with chima lore, but that headsculpt looks alot less masculine then Eris's headsculpt, anyway, im really feeling this set, in the upper body, the wing function seems well hidden, the pauldrons seem just right, it all looks good, the legs however, could use a switch in armour, with the knee armour on the thighs, and turned at 90 degrees to make them look thicker, the feet could use the smaller IFB monster feet with some talons attached onto it The Croc: if this is Cragger, then he would have looked better as just a recolor from last year, just take the same old set, give us the 4m long shells in place of the 1m long ones, and add a wee bit of gold on him, and the new torso part, and he would have been fine. The Mammoth: this would have been a golden opportunity to put out a black hulk chest part, but they missed it, if this had the hulk torso and stronger arms, i would have been all for it Sir Fengar: would have looked better with two clawed hands, a thicker upper leg to lower leg ration, and that's kinda it, great set otherwise The Other Bird: i see where they where going with him, its just...he looks terrible...would have been better if they replaced him with a spider, or something Simba: looks great, needs shoulder pads like the phoenix Eris to the right, aside from that, great set and lastly, the panther: why didn't they keep the ape from the last line? he fills the quota for black parts rather nicely, and as mentioned before, isn't the panther only an ultrabuild? get him out of there forgive my spelling and grammer errors, im rushing this reply Quote
Dorek Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 I have seen at least three different spellings for Sir Fwhat's-his-face, so I have no idea what it is anymore. I still want the set, though. Even if I did thing it was a snake at first. Quote

Even if I did thing it was a snake at first. Sir Fangar. He's a saber-toothed tiger, meaning he has really long fangs Quote
davidr Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 Thank you, so a sabertoothed tiger, but it doesn't explain these things on his back anyway. Quote
Zenerius Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 Thank you, so a sabertoothed tiger, but it doesn't explain these things on his back anyway. He must have drunk some Red Bull. XD Quote
Vinyl Scratch Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 Thank you, so a sabertoothed tiger, but it doesn't explain these things on his back anyway. Sabertoothed wings. Either way, I have to say, I really love uh Whohisname in the middle, will get it if possible. Honestly the only sets that interest me is That guy and Vardy/Vordy/Vurdy/Vulture guy. Man what are their names again? D: Quote
Dorek Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 It wasn't the FANG part bothering me so much as the "ar", which was at various times "er" and "ur". The pun was the easy bit. Still cool! Quote
PenPlays Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 You all know Laval and Cragger. The Panther (far right) is named Panthar. The Vulture (right villain) is Vardy The Sabre-toothed Tiger (center) is Sir Fangar The Mammoth (left villain) is Maula and the Phoenix (far left) is Fluminox. These were taken from the set names on Brickset. Quote
Vinyl Scratch Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 Maula? Sounds female. Set doesn't look that femalish though. Quote
Mesonak Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 Maula? Sounds female. Set doesn't look that femalish though. Probably because his name isn't Maula; it's Mungus. You can see it on the bag in the picture. Quote
Jetrax99 Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 Probably because his name isn't Maula; it's Mungus. You can see it on the bag in the picture. Or LEGO did a name change recently. Quote
The Mugbearer Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 These figures are terrible. Two of them are simply recolored and slightly adjusted 2013 figures, others are meh. I don't like and approve those solid-constructed wings. Quote
PenPlays Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 Probably because his name isn't Maula; it's Mungus. You can see it on the bag in the picture. I stand corrected... and I rest my case. What's strange is that Mungus is the big-fig. How depressing... Quote
Jaller8240 Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 So, not only are we seeing the return of brown in an action figure theme, but I think I may see a Zamora Launcher from "06 in the Phoenix's staff. Anyone else see it? Quote

ZORK64 Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 I just realized that I haven't shared my thoughts about each one of these guys with you. Let me do this now: ~ Good guys ~ First of all, I can't help but think that Fluminox is a funny name. It sounds kinda adorkable. Anyway, Flummy himself is a decent set. I like the new wings, and I like the new axe piece. He got very good chances of ending in my collection. Cragger doesn't interest me at all. The axe looks cool, but the piece comes with Fluminox too, so I have no need to get him, especially since I already own his fantastic intial version. Laval on the other hand, however, does appeal to me. I like the tweaks to his design, and I think his colours work well togeter. I might get him, but I'm not 100% sure. Panthar on the other hand... I don't know. Maybe if I want to try building a Ravage (but even then, I'd prefer his head in white to build Shattered Glass Ravage), but otherwise, he doesn't appeal to me... yet. ~ Bad guys ~ Sir Fangar looks pretty badass with his weapon and cape and stuff. I like him, and I possibly buy him. Mungus and Vardy interest me mostly for all the trans-blue pieces. But Mungus also got this nice mammoth head, which looks cool. Quote
