Bricker27 Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 I've been collecting lego star wats for around 8 years now and I just realised how unbalanced all my lego is. My collection is made almost completely of republic sets. I find it hard to make moc battles because I have not opposition for my forces. I think it's because there is so much focus by lego on the republic. Does anyone else have this problem ? Quote
Saint Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 I've seen the same ... The republic is more in the "frontline" , so to speak . I really don't care about that, because I'm building a Republic Army myself ( and it's a small humble force ) . Droids are a smaller section on a battlefield, since I only have about 50 or so droids. For a good Droid army they should number into the 1000's or a 10 to 1 ratio ( for 1 clone is 10 droids. ) The problem lies in the Superbattledroid. I think that for 1 superbattledroid , LEGO should put 2 or 3 normal droids into the sets, so you ( eventualy ) build up a nice droid army . The best droid-army-builders-pack was the droid transport from a few years back, sadly with a high price tag, it was almost impossible for me to collect more, so I have 1 . Bricklinking a Droid army is a good alternative, since droids are not all that expensive. Hopes this helps a bit, grtz Saint Quote
donbarca Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 yeah.. bricklinking droids is my way too. they are not all that expensive... turbo tanks would also help.... i actually also find it hard to build a decent clone army...there is too many different ones. (dont mind they are super cool) Quote
Saint Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 And that is in essence, the problem, the Clones are too expensive... an avarege of $ 4,50 per Clone is way too much, concidering that a Droid has an averege of $ 1,50 . I have about 100 White Clone troopers and about 50 Kassyyyk troopers now, and I don't like the round helmet guys that much ! ( Phase 2 or 3 helmets , whatever ), Clone pilots are way out of the ballpark ( the average LAAT-I uses 2 ) Clone gunners Mwa... those are "accepteble" ... Don't get me started about the Bombsquad or Dumbsquad as I rever too them. I know I'm lucky in the sence that I bought a lot of BP's for a reasenable price ( to Dutch Standard ) and a very happy camper that the Atembo is in my hometown , that saves me up to € 4 per box of kassyyyk BP's , so the 4th one is free . And offcourse, a clone army without material is nothing ! I started building my own army vehickles and airplanes, much to my own delight, I proudly own 8 LAAT-I 's and started building a massive CTT again . ( those will be in their own topic's when finished ) grtz Saint Quote
donbarca Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 sweet!!! so far my army counts 9 white troopers 2 sergeants a pilot and a commander + the special ones from some sets 27 b1 droids and 4 super battle droids and a turbo tank:) a long way but hey collecting is cool and there are so many nice system sets to spend money on.... also you need some stormtroopers for the death star:) Quote
Saint Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 Stormtroopers ?? Don't get me started on those guys !!! I've got a couple, and I think no more than 20 .. all from BP's past . Thinking of ditching them and getting some more Clones.. I Clones. Quote
Darth Nader Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 Most people probably have this problem, including me. The answer is probably because republic sets look a lot cooler and do a lot better in the market. Most separatist sets tend to be very plain and boring, and lego often includes poor minifigures. So naturally we look at them thinking they are poor and decide not to buy them. Also their size might make a difference too. Look at all the huge republic sets that have come out in the past few years, now think about the last time lego made a big battle droid set where you could get multiple of (so not including the malevolence) yup, the MTT from 2007- seven years ago. So even if you buy an equal amount of sets from each side, your droid army will still look smaller because of the size. Quote
donbarca Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 yeah... batttle of saleucami set helps a little with this issue + you get a cool barc trooper Quote
Darth Nader Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 yeah... batttle of saleucami set helps a little with this issue + you get a cool barc trooper Not really. I mean of course the republic is outnumbered, the droids don't really get much either. They just get some cover and a STAP bike, which won't really help. You do get 2 battle droids and 2 super battle droids if I recall, but you can get those on Bricklink for a really low price. But yeah I'd still get it for the cool barc trooper and his speeder. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 That's funny, I've always had the exact opposite 'problem'. Got the '07 MTT with twenty B1s, and then grabbed a bunch of the '07 Droid BPs when they went on sale at 75%-off, and I've never really wanted clones badly enough to go crazy buying them. (And part of that is the fact that I'm an OT fan.) Quote
Saint Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 For a hefty $ 20 each I wouldn't go and buy a lot of them just for the battledroids ... I bought one for the Trooper and the newer parts, and will leave it there. Quote
donbarca Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 i agree with the price it has they could at least have given us a named commander Neyo.. the point was that at last/least now there is a way to sort of army build while buying system sets Quote
Rogue Angel Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 Thanks to the BP, I have plenty of droids. The problem is, the clones are cooler than the droids (and, as mentioned above, clone sets are cooler.) so I have probably 50% more clones from the other sets I've purchased. Also, the droids should be outnumbering clones like 2:1. This has not been an issue for Rebels/Imps, especially since each different Rebel uniform represents a separate army that can't be easily combined in a MOC. And Imps should outnumber Rebels like 3:1 or more. Quote
Just The Doctor Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 I think one problem is that the droid figures are boring and outdated, they need to be updated with printing and better articulation, then people will happily get their sets. Quote
Sir_Basil_Ashton Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 (edited) The only articulation that's missing with the battle droid minifig is the legs. I don't care too much since the battle droids in the movie use little leg movement. Edited January 3, 2014 by Sir_Basil_Ashton Quote
Commander Colt Posted January 4, 2014 Posted January 4, 2014 (edited) I actually feel its fairly balanced over time, as I have the MTT as well as many BPs for both sides, though I do have to agree that recently there has been a trend for more and fancier clones in BPs. I am happy to have gotten plenty of the clone walker BP, as it had three plain clones for $10, alongside its weird little walker. Edit: To further add to the fact that there were plenty of places to get droids before, I also realized I have battle of Naboo which is another 10 battle droids Edited January 6, 2014 by Commander Colt Quote
