Zepher Posted January 22, 2014 Author Posted January 22, 2014 "I appreciate both your help earlier and your position on this lost book, I do. However we have been asked to help find it, and that is exactly what we are going to do, and you are not going to stop us. Now, please kindly leave and let us go about our business." "If you appreciated my help, then return the favor - don't make me harm you. "Do you know more than what you've said about this book?" My tone is not demanding. "Do you think it may contain any knowledge that could be a danger?" "Knowledge is not dangerous. Those who use it may be dangerous, but that is the person, not the information. Once the Dragons of my homeland were a prosperous race, now they are a dying one. Perhaps this text will tell us why. Or perhaps it will point us towards another Pandemonicon, that book which the Oracle so deeply fears and hates. Who can say? Me - I'd most likely predict a little of both. It is what we do with the knowledge. It is asking as if the gift of vision creates heroes or villains - it depends on the person, not the gift of vision." "You still haven't explained what sort of dangers could possibly come out of finding this book," he says diplomatically. "How does our finding this book hurt anybody else?" "We are the guards of ancient secrets. We have proven ourselves capable. You have not. Why should we allow the masses to have the knowledge that the Lord of Light has given us? We are the Gate Keepers. We walk a divine path, free of mud, but the city and its inhabitants are dirty." Quote
Flipz Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 "It is asking as if the gift of vision creates heroes or villains - it depends on the person, not the gift of vision." "Well, if I'm any indication, I'd say 'a little of both' is a pretty accurate assessment." "We are the guards of ancient secrets. We have proven ourselves capable. You have not. Why should we allow the masses to have the knowledge that the Lord of Light has given us? We are the Gate Keepers. We walk a divine path, free of mud, but the city and its inhabitants are dirty." Arthur's tone is skeptical, but diplomatic. "Yeah, I'm going to need some more proof y'all are on the up-and-up before I trust you. Your words are pretty--but so are the Wolfgang's. How do I know this 'Lord of Light' isn't hoarding all this knowledge so he can use it for himself? The last Light-obsessed person I met turned out to be a deranged fragment of a god that we ended up having to beat down to prevent it from trying to take over the world. Look at it from our perspective--how do we know we shouldn't be preventing you from learning this knowledge?" Quote
Palathadric Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 "You have still not answered, my question," I say, growing somewhat frustrated, but still speaking diplomatically. "How do we know that what you are saying is true and that you really know this book is dangerous or whatever. For all we know, you may want it for yourself. I hate to say it, but besides your small assistance in fighting off those fake Wolfgang members, we don't really have any knowledge of you or your organization or what you're doing and whether you've been of any help to society or not." Rumble Strike Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 "My friends speak wisely. My trust is in them and the Princess over you, no matter the unrequested aid given previous." Quote
Zepher Posted January 22, 2014 Author Posted January 22, 2014 "How do we know that you won't use it poorly? You Heroica lot are all the same - you pretend to have moral obligations to stop evil, but really you're just working for whoever hires you. You say you know nothing of us, but we know nothing of you. The only thing that I know is that you fought criminals, and the only thing you know of me is that I fought criminals. Yet you ask me to prove myself to you. Prove yourselves to me." Sir Abel smiles. "Not easy, is it? All I ask is that you don't pursue the book, which is something I'm already willing to do myself. Now, I believe it is time for your final answer. The Hovels are filled with people, and the Order Imperial has other things to attend to. The Lord of Light has many plans for us to fulfill." Quote
Rumble Strike Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Tarn faced Abel and spoke clearly. "We are going to pursue the book. I would advise that you do not try to stop us." Tarn then tries to take a Nostrum and a Mead, steeling himself for the Order Imperial' response. OOC: I hope I have not made Tarn speak wrongly for anyone, but I think it's fairly clear none of us wish to give up the Quest. Also, from tomorrow I am away on holiday for a week. This will limit my ability to check in and respond but I should be able to do so at least once or twice a day. Apologies, Zeph (and my fellow Questies). I am more than happy to relinquish Party Leader status whilst this is the case. If I am not around, just point Tarn at the nearest enemy and he'll take it from there! Cheers! Quote
Palathadric Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 "I still don't understand what makes you fear the book so much?" I ask. I continue diplomatically. "Unless you give us a good answer, I think we will have to keep going after it. If you want to stand in our way, so be it, but I really don't see the need for fighting among ourselves just over a book. If you think it's so dangerous perhaps you...one of you, could come along and take a look at it and we can decide together. I'm a reasonable man, if the book is a menace I will destroy and I trust you will do the same. However, I also trust that if it's of no serious concern, then there's no reason why we can't get it. By the way, the offer of you coming along is from my part. I cannot say the others will agree, but it seems a reasonable compromise. Perhaps we could learn more about your Order as we go." Quote
Flipz Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 Steeling himself for a hostile response, Arthur casts his Scroll of Poisoning on Sir Roderick's Sword. "Sorry, folks, but you haven't given me a solid enough reason not to pursue the book. If y'all want to take the monk's offer, that's fine by me, but the princess is right--we don't answer to you. We do what we see fit. Besides, I know Ella. She's a prophetess, a princess, and a very clever woman to boot--if she believes her visions are telling her to pursue the book, then I trust her judgment, more than I trust that of strangers I just met." Palathadric Posted January 25, 2014 Posted January 25, 2014 I attack Sir Abel Justice from the Back Row with my Flying Cross of Follow any Suggestion Offered. "One of your party is down and another is on his way. Shall we call it what it is: a victory for us, or must we continue this fight?" Quote
Flipz Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 (edited) OOC: Lion's Heart also Stuns, so Daniel didn't Seal Arthur, he simply overcame Stun. Also, my SP seems off? 5+1=6, 6+12=18, IIRC. "Keep it up, we've almost won!" Arthur casts Darkness at Abel from the Front Row through Sir Roderick's Sword. Battle Order: (and suggested actions) >Pretzel (Flying Cross vs. Abel, Back Row) >U'Voros (Does Nothing, Back Row) Tarn (Lion's Heart vs. Abel, Front Row) Arthur (Darkness, Sir Roderick's Sword vs. Abel, Front Row) Edited January 26, 2014 by Flipz Quote
Zepher Posted January 26, 2014 Author Posted January 26, 2014 OoC: Oh, crap, I had him attack with the Great Blade because that's what's listed in his inventory as a weapon. I will fix the round in a bit, but they will both have a ton more health (I think Cicero will probably still be dead, not sure though). Give me a bit. From here on in, even if you're just following what's listed, posting your specific action (especially if using a weapon that's not your primary) would be helpful! Quote

OOC: Don't forget that Lion's Heart is Darkness-Elemental, so he gets an x4 even though it's a lower WP. Actually, in fact, BOTH mooks are dead, so all attacks this Round will have to be against Abel. I'll amend the Battle Order momentarily. EDIT: Battle Order amended above. Rumble Strike Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 Tarn aimed at Abel from the front row using Lion's Heart. "U'Voros, do nothing in the back row except look after the princess." Quote
