^Hah! That's awesome. You're actually much farther along than I am. The highest mine goes is the 1x1 earth green bricks attached to the baseplate. :)

Orange hinge bottoms for the vegetable boxes? Tsk, tsk. ;)

I kid because those are definitely very difficult to find in the sand green.

Any color will do, since they're basically hidden from view. I used dark bley for those two basket ones and light bley for the ones under the roof plates.

Y'all should have warned me that BrickLink is so addictive...

I'm up to 222 lots of 311 ordered. 89 to go...

295 lots ordered, 16 to go.

...and with a BnP order of 15 lots, all that was left was the boy's torso to find on BrickLink.

:look::blush:

I guess now I wait for invoices and packages now?

Need some advice, I am starting to bricklink the GG. I have my wanted list made along with some modifications. I have modified it so that while the front looks original I have switched all the sand green on the sides and back to light grey.

Anyways how do I go about order parts the most efficient and cost effective way? Brickficiency gives no matches when search for up to 5 stores.

You're going to have to make a spreadsheet and look through lots of sources to get it all absolutely as cheap as possible.

I didn't bother with any of that, so I'm sure I paid more than I had to, but at the same time, I wasn't planning on buying it all in one week.

Easiest way to make a spreadsheet is to go into the inventory list in BL for the GG and select the printer version and copy all of it and then past it into the spreadsheet. Then you can modify it with a cost and parts collected columns and any other columns you need to add. That is what I did and worked out great. I have also done this for my CC and MS to keep track of parts that I have found from the LEGO's I already had in my home and what I get from the local PAB wall.

I finally have trackable data from Canada Post that my PAB parcel is not only within Canada, but local and "out for delivery" today!

With any luck I should be able to get back to the business of building bliss on my GG set tonight!!

Grats, and after over a month waiting for it I am glad you finally got your parts. Does this finish the parts you need to complete the GG or do you still need to order more?

Posted

Well I'll hold my breath until I actually get home tonight after work and can confirm the parcel has come.

The 2nd part is then verifying the contents.

Assuming the order is complete and correct, then yes I will have everything to complete Green Grocer, and everything to complete Market Street (with the exception of a final balcony solution for the 2nd and 3rd floors).

But as far as Green Grocer goes, I have everything to complete it, but the caveat is the following substitutions:

- medium blue instead of regular blue for the awning

- an alternate reddish-brown female hairpiece for the one minifig (in place of the rare harry potter one)

- new style 1x2x2 white panels w/ side supports instead of the original panels

- regular 1x2x3 white window frames instead of the "train" version

I don't think I'd ever feel inclined to pursue the latter two parts, but for the blue arches and the minifig hair I might go for them at a later time. Still pondering, but at least I found a consolation prize for those so I wasn't stuck not being able to finish. I think I'll be quite happy with what I have.

I did those same changes as well but I went with a dark red for the awning and I plan on just buying the minifigs and not part them out. I have everything that I am going to order via BL ordered and should have them all this week and once I get paid tomorrow I will put in the final order for parts with BnP and that is only 8 lots. BnP will get the 1x3 and 1x4 Sand Green bricks that I need and some other odds and ends that I was not able to complete with BL.

So am I the only one who is doing this right now who went with all accurate parts? Sand green 1x8s, medium blue awning, correct hairpiece, etc...

No wonder my price total is quite a bit higher...

:/

I ended up finding the train windows for really cheap so I bought them even though my first intention was to not use them. I originally tried putting them on and I didn't like the outcome, so I switched back to the regular 1x2x3 windows anyway. I think those look better and fit in better with the other modulars. I like consistency.

I've seen medium blue before on there. It looks okay for the awnings, but the regular blue stands out a lot more. The color pops better I think. I've also considered dark red or dark green or maybe dark blue.

rollermonkey - no substitutions would probably run a lot higher. Although if it is 100% exact, you could always resell it later at an inflated price I'm sure. Although LEGO name bright blue (regular blue) is the color for the awning. Medium blue is lighter. I assume you meant the regular Bright blue.

Medium blue is the cheaper alternate, which I went with. Regular (traditional) blue is the correct color for the set.

It's obviously up to the individual to decide what is worth it and what isn't.

The 4 blue arches are a ~$10 hit.

The minifig hair is a ~$5 hit.

The 50 1x8 sand green bricks are a ~$150 hit!!!

The 4 train windows are a ~$14+ hit

etc.

I can justify some. The biggest splurge I did was the 1x2 grooved sand green bricks. I paid somewhere in the neighbourhood of $55-60 for those.

But there was no way I was going to pay $3+ per brick for the fifty 1x8's, when combos of 1x4, 1x2 and 1x6 would accomplish the same thing for much less.

if you went with the 1x8 Sand Green bricks you easily spent $100 more than I did. I broke mine up into 1x6 and 1x2 and I found a good deal on the 1x6 bricks.

There is a guy in Denmark selling the grooved sand green bricks for .90 per and he shipped quickly. I actually received an extra one from him in the bag. I actually payed for insurance on that shipment since it was coming from over seas so I spent a bit more for those than .90. I would recommend buying from him quickly because when I purchased he had 2900 available and in just 2.5 weeks he is down to 2200 of the 1x2 with groove left showing in his inventory. Once he runs out and if he doesn't get anymore then the price will shoot way up on those.

How much are you all spending on bricklinking the green grocer? Trying to figure out a ballpark figure.

Today I put together a spreadsheet, now I guess I need to check out stores for each part and then find matches?

Posted (edited)

I got the 1x8s for 108 Euro with shipping, which the day I bought them was $138.

The grooved sand green 1x2s were $56.54

The girl's hair was $7.95 (which is insane)

Train windows were $18

Blue arches were $8

One surprise was that the correct cat was in BnP when I ordered, I'm sure that saved me $.

I tried to balance prices with minimizing the total number of stores, but I still ended up with 15 BL orders, 3 or 4 BnP orders, 2 PaB orders and I went to two LEGO stores to hit the different PAB walls.

I can't add it all up yet, as I'm waiting for two more BL orders to be invoiced.

I'm considering getting glass for the train windows, but I'm going to see if I like the way it looks without glass first.

Anyways how do I go about order parts the most efficient and cost effective way? Brickficiency gives no matches when search for up to 5 stores.

The way I do it is look at the output that Brickficiency gives and see which parts are most rare (available from least stores), then remove parts and rerun until it finds matches. After that, you can run a separate Brickficiency on those rare parts or just find them manually if it's a low number of lots. Also if you aren't using Brickstore to manage your parts lists, you should, as it makes it much easier to check prices, edit parts, etc and import Brickstore files into Brickficiency.

Using the above method I was able to put together a GG for around $450, with the typical part swaps that others have been doing. Not quite as good as sin's $400 which is what I was aiming for, but how low you can get the price comes down to how much time you put in figuring out where to order what from and so for only spending a few hours I thought it wasn't too bad and was a fun experience overall.

I did the medium blue awning as well, but didn't really like it so I wound up biting the bullet and ordering the regular blue curved bricks for that. Same thing for the dark red inverted slopes that forms curtains on the first floor, I thought I could get away with red but decided dark red looked much, much nicer (hard to explain but more lustrous and luxurious somehow) so had to order again. Bugged me even more than the medium blue awning. At least subbing 1 x 2 , 1 x 4 and 1 x 6 bricks for the 1 x 8 worked, just had to pay attention to use combinations of 2 1 x 4s and 1 x 6 with 1 x 2 equally.

It's like someone once told me, trying to cut corners and save a penny or two here and there will most of the time wind up costing more in the long run.

kids in bed - check

evening chores completed - check

PAB order contents checked and verified - check

parts sorted by set - check

It's building time!!!

I think when all said and done I have spent about $350 between 10 BL, 2 PAB and 1 BnP orders for my GG. Also keep in mind I had about 700 parts scavenged from parts I already had. Still cheaper than buying it out right and a lot funner putting a spreadsheet together and looking through BL for the best prices. Kinda a spreadsheet junkie and I blame that on my last job I had.
