TheLegoDr Posted July 12, 2014 Posted July 12, 2014 It will be interesting to see just how expensive the FB will be bricklinked vs brand new since it was only recently retired. I don't think it had too many rare pieces. Quote
mmcclelland Posted July 12, 2014 Posted July 12, 2014 So far it's coming in at £302.97 via PaB and BnP that doesn't include the red garage door panels or the 6x5 doors which aren't available. I still need to check the pieces I already have which will bring the cost down considerably. It originally cost £99.99 I think Quote
TheLegoDr Posted July 12, 2014 Posted July 12, 2014 I'm surprised/not surprised it is so expensive. Looking at bricklink, from scratch, it would cost about 2-2.5x as much as retail in USD. Not that many expensive pieces, mostly just a large quantity of pieces. I guess this shows to not pass on any of them, even if you are on the fence. Quote
mmcclelland Posted July 12, 2014 Posted July 12, 2014 I guess that's true for most sets, unfortunately I was late to the party! Quote
rollermonkey Posted July 12, 2014 Posted July 12, 2014 Make a lap of eBay and the other venues like Amazon and whatnot to make sure you can't still find a complete or even new set for less that the BrickLink total price. Quote
Kayaderosseras Posted July 13, 2014 Posted July 13, 2014 ... am I the only one bricklinking the FB? I'll keep you posted as I go along! I originally got two FB sets, with the intention of making an expanded version, with two bays or maybe third floor, but I never got around to building it. Three floors doesn't make much sense, and a two bay design has certain difficulties. I'm in the process of bricklinking the obvious parts needed for third bay (red, white, clear doors, white door track, black back doors, floor plates, etc) These all seem to be pretty easy to find. nana Posted July 13, 2014 Posted July 13, 2014 I would like to update with my brinklinked CC, MS and GG. The first floor of CC is fully furnitured. Among them, I think GG is the best, while it is also great to have the other two, so now I can have ALL of modulars! Quote
Strelki Posted July 13, 2014 Posted July 13, 2014 How much it cost to buy bricklinks, pieces for Green Grocer set? Are individual pieces sold? Maybe it would be possible, to replace "sand green" pieces, and use regular green? Quote

Maybe it would be possible, to replace "sand green" pieces, and use regular green? Go to bricklink and choose catalog. In there tyo8the modular number and then click on the inventory. There you will get all the parts needed to build the set. The. Write down the parts name and check for the prices...you r done:-) Quote

Maybe it would be possible, to replace "sand green" pieces, and use regular green? Use software brickstore, import bricklink inventory set 10185, choose all the bricks, right click and update price! Not sure if regular green is available for all the bricks in sand green. You can easily check this in bricklink. Quote
TheLegoDr Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 First and foremost if you are going to change color you should look to see what colors the 1x2 brick with vertical groove comes in since that adds so much texture on the exterior. Quote
Strelki Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 Can a regular 1x2 piece be used, instead of a groove piece? Quote
antp Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 Yes, it will work, but as he said the groove adds to the "texture" of the wall; it will look more "plain" with a regular 1x2. Quote
TheLegoDr Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 that's the beauty of LEGO. You can use any color and any piece you desire. If you are going for a straight copy, then the groove brick is ideal. If you just want the basic shape of the building, then by all means go for a 1x2. But you wouldn't have to limit to green then. Quote
sithewok Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 I am *just* starting to order parts for Green Grocer. I was surprised that *most* of the sand green bricks were available from BnP right now (I ordered 1x4's to cover the 1x8's as others have mentioned). I just don't think I want to know yet how much those green bricks with groove are going to run me... Quote
TheLegoDr Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 ^I think on average they go for $1-2 each x 56 I think. Plus shipping of course. Quote
sithewok Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 Ouch. Oh well. I'm lucky in that I've knocked out about 70% of the non-green pieces from my extra bricks. It shouldn't end up being all that costly in the end (hopefully). Quote
The Jersey Brick Guy Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 ^I think on average they go for $1-2 each x 56 I think. Plus shipping of course. Is that how much they are going for now? Wow, I got lucky when I bought them for .60 each. Quote
flailx Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 Man, Green Grocer is a b*tch to BL. I have wanted this set forever and I finally decided to see if I could build it. I had 90% of the parts needed for the first floor. After a bit of research I quickly realized that sand green was out of the question. The 2x1 modified brick that makes up the bulk of the facade is outrageously expensive - hell, sand green bricks in general are pricey. I could build this in sand green if I wanted to tear down my victorian house (see avatar) but I don't want to do that so I decided on sand blue. Still, ordering the sand blue cost me nearly $40. Actually, it turns out I needed more bricks than I thought so I'm up to nearly $120.00 in costs. That's with no minifigs, though to be honest, I don't really care about the figs for this set - the building is the star of this show. Quote
TheLegoDr Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 I switched mine to sand blue too. But I used the Sand blue from the Pet Shop. I only needed to make a small order to finish it. I was switching Pet Shop to sand green since I had enough of the sand green pieces from other builds/orders (including the groove brick from Diagon Alley). So it works out for me. Plus it stands out among a sea of sand green grocers. AND the sand blue grocer is one of the most beautiful buildings I've ever seen... I actually like the sand green version less and less. Quote
CircleK Posted July 26, 2014 Posted July 26, 2014 I am *just* starting to order parts for Green Grocer. I was surprised that *most* of the sand green bricks were available from BnP right now (I ordered 1x4's to cover the 1x8's as others have mentioned). I just don't think I want to know yet how much those green bricks with groove are going to run me... The sand green groves are getting $$$. I've been watching them on and off for the past few weeks, although I'm only paying attention to US sellers with new bricks. There is a seller who keeps restocking them at $1.29 ea. After that they jump to a whooping $1.75+!!! Unfortunately, I had to pay out the nose when I did my GG bc it seemed like everyone was out of stock at the time I was shopping for them. A week or so after my orders came in some other sellers got some of the more rare parts in at better prices (including the grooves). That was a painful thing to witness. If I would have waited a week or two before placing my orders I would have easily saved over $50. Quote
mmcclelland Posted July 26, 2014 Posted July 26, 2014 That's why I decided to skip GG for now and go for FB instead (947 parts and counting) my fingers are crossed that TLG will bring out a new set that uses sand green, in particular 1x2 with grooves so that it will become financially viable, but I fear I'll have arthritis before that happens!
