fred67 Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 Yeah... TLG calls it yellow. Is sand green really that expensive? With my filters (north america) on bricklink, it's cheaper to get the sand green in bulk pieces directly from LEGO S@H bricks and pieces.... 1x4 is $0.30 ($0.31 for 41 from a single shop on BL), 1x3 is $0.27 ($0.39 for 54 from a single shop on BL). The sand green 1x2 with grove bricks kills the deal for me. They arent available from Lego S@H and are priced astronomically on BL. ___________________________________ I made some changes and placed it beside the Palace Cinema LXF by Stephan. I am digging it. fred67 Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 It really looks great - I have no problem with those colors. Quote
ReplicaOfLife Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 Didn't someone already build a tan version of it? I recall seeing pics of one somewhere. This might give you an even better idea of how it'll look than the ldd (which I think is always a bit off in colors). Quote
daniel9x Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 (edited) Not sure if anyone has already done this, but when BL'ing my Green Grocer (the 1st of the initial 3) I sub'ed the 1x2 Sand Green Groove with the (much cheaper) 1x2 Brick Pattern. I'm pretty happy with how it looks. I've really been enjoying this thread. I had to chuckle at the user who said "never again" during the exaustive process of BL'ing the green grocer and then immediately started working on CC. Edited August 12, 2015 by daniel9x Quote

The profile bricks look great - I wish TLG would finally do this with more sets, and make 1x1, and 1x3 versions. Not sure how they'd do it, since the pattern is 2 bricks wide, but you could probably make it so you'd be able to rotate the brick to get it to match. Quote
mmcclelland Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 I would like to see a 1x1 profile brick where the profiling goes around the corner of it placing them end on creates a tiny gap, the DO does this and it spoils the look a little in my opinion Quote
muffluvin Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 (edited) It really looks great - I have no problem with those colors. Thanks. It did turn out great. It somehow looked great sandwiched between the Palace Cinema and Grand Emporium. So I believe I am sold. Didn't someone already build a tan version of it? I recall seeing pics of one somewhere. Yeah, LDD is off with the colors, that was why on my original post I was looking for anyone who did the SandGreen - Tan Substitution. I searched on google and have no luck finding one. Well, I originally considered replacing the groved bricks with the profile bricks in sand green. But if I stick with sand green, I need to buy a whole lot of other bricks in that color as well. I have an abundance of this brick-yellow/tan colored bricks thus the reason to do a Tan Grocery. The colors are great. In my opinion, it looks better than the original. Thanks. I made some minor changes and I think it's time to make a spreadsheet and start collecting the parts. Edited August 12, 2015 by muffluvin Quote

peter_m Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 It looks nice in tan. I wonder if there is any Green Grocer in Town Hall's dark orange. Quote
tkatt Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 Has anyone tried to bricklink Town Hall and Fire Brigade? Are those sets easier to get parts for then Café Corner and Green Grocer, ie. no rare pieces? I'll assume it's ok to talk about bricklinking the Modulars that have retired since this thread began, or should there be a separate thread for TH, GE, FB, and PS? I have done TH and FB, but with modifications. The parts are easy to find- but some are rare and expensive. I got lucky at the pick a brick wall a few times and amassed the large amount of dark red bricks needed for the FB. The other rare and more costly parts are in the garage door and bell tower. Town Hall has a lots of expensive Dark Orange. The transparent garage door panels for the skylight are somewhat rare. The pyramid brick at the top of the tower is rare, having only been in 2 sets- the other being arkham asylum. One reason I never bought the TH is that I don't like dark orange, I decided to use Dark Green instead. It has a very different look, but don't care if it's not an exact copy of the original. The build is what I was interested in, and I'm happy with the result. Quote

tkatt Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 After I finished it to this point I ordered enough drk green to replace all the brown profile bricks, just havent got around to swapping them. I'm also hoping TLG someday produces the 1x8, and 1x4 arches in dark green. Quote
Hemlock Falls Posted August 14, 2015 Posted August 14, 2015 (edited) IMG_1034 I've finished bricklinking the CC. The GG I did a few months ago. IMG_0998 I made only a couple substitutions... The 2nd floor windows I replaced with window frames. (the 20 white panels are just too expensive) The 4 LBG turntables I replaced with three 2x2 jumpers and a 2X2 tile. (this makes the tower and coffee sign considerably more flimsy, but looks identical) Other that that, I went with correct doors, 3rd floor window boxes, roof slopes, dark blue stuff around the door, the skis, everything. Some of these parts were excessively pricey. If I ever sell this I will spend the $$$ on all of the correct parts first. IMG_1017 But I can't imagine that I'll want to sell it anytime soon, it looks way too nice in my little town. Edited August 14, 2015 by Hemlock Falls Quote
cooldude00 Posted August 14, 2015 Posted August 14, 2015 gotta agree - CC is one of the nicer builds... am thinking how to build out the interior though.. may nick the idea of putting in BBT Quote
Hemlock Falls Posted August 14, 2015 Posted August 14, 2015 (edited) I wonder if the 21110 Research institute could fit in there. That doesn't really jive with the exterior, but you know, maybe there'd be a bunch of scientists working in there. Could be top secret, low profile kind of thing. Or I could try to squeeze my Foxy Blocks Performing Arts Center into the 2nd floor of CC... IMG_0086 It's a bit too big to fit inside, but I could modify it I guess. That'd be awesome! BlockLogo Posted August 14, 2015 Posted August 14, 2015 (edited) I think I have decided to bricklink one of the retired modulars. Probably Green Grocer, as the Cafe Corner seems to have more ridiculously expensive parts. I'll definitely sub out the train windows, and 1x2 sand green modified bricks. Maybe the sand green altogether for a different color, but I have a decent stash of sand green from buying several of the Toy & Grocery Creator sets when I saw them on clearance at a walmart. I remember reading a post in this thread about good substitutions for some rare, expensive parts in the GG and CC, but can't find it anymore. Can anyone share what other parts in GG other than the ones I mentioned are expensive and what suitable substitutes would be? Or direct me to the post where this was discussed? Also, are there any sets that would be good starter part packs for this endeavor? Like the aforementioned Toy & Grocery for the sand green, the Bike Shop & Cafe and changing seasons for would be good for plenty of windows and tan, white and some dark red bricks. Any other ones? Oafley Jones Posted August 15, 2015 Posted August 15, 2015 (edited) Thanks. I made some minor changes and I think it's time to make a spreadsheet and start collecting the parts. That looks absolutely brilliant. Could you tell me what colours you've substituted. Some look like dark blue or black there. Finished a 99% accurate CC two months ago. It was a great project, but I spent way too much on it. The only way I can justify a GG now would be with the Masonary blocks or Brick yellow version. This just made my mind up.
