I didn't know that about the skis, I'll have to BL them. Seems like the hinge is kind of important to maintaining the sweeping arc.

I rendered the LDD CC mod today. This is the first time I built anything using LDD and also the first time I've ever used rendering software for anything. I wanted to see how it came out (it took almost 10 hours to render in 1024 x 768 with 3 x AA - not sure if my computer going to sleep while I was out all day had something to do with it but it seemed pretty long to me).

I received my last BL order today! Only thing I am waiting on now is my PAB order and I can build :classic:

My final BL order was missing 1 lot - (5) 2 x 4 dark green bricks. Store owner responded very quickly and said he will ship them out tomorrow, thankfully. Chances are they will still get here ahead of the PAB order...

I have to say I am impressed at the turnaround of almost all of the BL sellers I used, and all but the final one were 100% accurate.

I also placed my first ever BnP order this morning for various parts needed for CC and MS as I posted in the active MS thread. I am hoping the parts aren't priced too much more than similar parts via PAB, though most of the parts I did order are very expensive on BL - more than parts of the same type direct from Lego.

That's what I found with Bricklink. I'm still waiting on my BnP order to ship. It's been 'processing' since last Wednesday. :( at this rate it will be Feburary before I can finally build it.

Heh, I placed my PAB order on the 8th if I remember correctly. It didn't ship until the 14th which is 8 days ago now, so I am very hopeful that it will arrive this week.

I just went to check for going rates on the 1 x 8 x 2 dark blue arches, dark blue 1 x 1 x 6 pillar supports, Dark blue 1 x 4 x 5 half arches and 2 x 1 x 3 dark red slopes . And I could not help myself...

I got 6 of the dark blue arches for $2.50 each, seemed like a steal so I had to pull the trigger. Pillar supports were $1.92 each but the same seller had the half arches for $.66. Dark red slopes ran $0.96 a piece.

Now that's out of the way I need to avoid buying anymore bricks for CC or MS for a loooong time :innocent:

Put together the CC myself using current window and door options very similar to what you've rendered and I'm very happy with it.

I did purchase the dark red slopes from B&P and they are currently available if you search by design ID# (4460 in this case) instead of searching by set.

Same thing for the dark blue arches (ID# 3308).

The dark bley birds (ID# 2546) are back too for a Lego Movie set and much cheaper than the $3.50 each new on BL now.

It seems that changes are made to the element ID# from time to time and it will not show under the set as available if it doesn't match.

The light bley 2x2 lower turn plate ($6+ on BL!) was available right after they reopened on the 15th.

There might be a chance this will be available again and they will give you the expected date when you call. I've been able to place orders for parts that were not currently available and they'll ship once they are.

I'm now working on my last order for a Blue Grocer.

Unfortunately I did not notice that the blue arches and dark red slopes were available via BnP before I ordered them on BL, I ended up paying $2.50 each for the arches and around $0.95 each for the slopes. I did end up placing a sizable BnP order including the various animals, all of the dark blue pieces aside from the 1 x 2 bricks ( which aren't currently available ) and everything else that I could grab that was more expensive on BL.

I blew my timeline ( and budget  ) and have now placed 99% of my orders for CC and MS. The only part I didn't order for my CC is the light bley garbage can, for MS I still need to source the blue slopes (weird that none of the 15 vendors I used had these but oh well ), the white umbrella bars, the white hoses ( expensive, I may sub these out ) and the minifigure torso with the green overalls.

I worked on the CC and MS orders simultaneously and ended up saving a ton on shipping. I only have 3 orders that haven't invoiced yet but it looks like my CC will end up costing me $295 including shipping and tax and my MS will end up around $210 - though I haven't found a solution to the hoses yet so we will see. I was quite shocked to see that I could get this done so affordably without swapping out major colors and/or elements.

Hopefully my PAB order for GG arrives soon so I can start building and stop spending money!

Perhaps if a mod reads this they could change the title of this thread to "Bricklinking Green Grocer, Cafe Corner & Market Street"

I haven't started ordering the parts for market street. In fact I will have to wait on it as I have other projects I'm working on and I still need the palace cinema and Parisian restaurant. That is pretty good on pricing Sin. Did you managed to acquire a 'kitty eyes 2' for Green Grocer?

Yes I did, to the tune of $2.50. I decided from the get-go that I want the minifigures in these sets and, since I wasn't compromising on those at all, it made sense to pony up for the cat that actually came with the set. Funny that of the 13 minifigures for these three sets, the torsos that gave me the most trouble were the plain white one ( I got 2 of them finally ) and the modest looking green overalls with white arms. I'm still trying to find a place to buy that, tough now that I really don't need anything else...

Cool! I had the same logic. I only managed to get one of the blue suit bodies though. I don't have the figs for market street. I ordered the pet shop cat as the replacement for Green Grocer. I managed to get my plain white bodies from BnP and since they had just gotten more of the tan bodies for the Green Grocer boy I ordered some extras :classic:

Did you buy the minifigures whole or did you buy the individual parts for them? I considered both routes and decided I would buy the parts for them all individually and end up saving about 50%. I got almost all of the legs direct from PAB ($0.45) or BnP ($0.62) and all of the torsos off of BL ($0.75 - $2.50). I got all of the heads from BnP for $0.23 a piece and all the headpieces except for the top hat and 2 out of production female hairpieces from BnP. Cost per minifigure averaged about $3.00.

I bought the pieces individually. The girl hair pieces I bought off Bricklink. (At the time I did not know about BnP) the torsos, heads from BnP while the legs were PaB. I paid around the same prices as you hehe. I couldn't find the whole mini-figures for a reasonable price. I actually prefer buying them separately. Currently working on making an elite police riot squad. :classic: I have several criminals already made to create mayhem.

Does anybody know where the dark red slopes can be obtained at the moment? There's literally ONE on Bricklink, and Lego's site is saying they're out of stock. I'm at my wits end trying to get those pieces for my CC :(

EDIT: Found the dark red slopes on P&B by searching for the part number, rather than set. Silly Lego. I'm just left to get a few odds and ends now - like a lampost and solving the door issue.

You could try on the Lego customer service site, click the links for part replacement - purchase. The service is called Bricks & Pieces, you can also just call them using the phone number on the customer service contact page - just make sure you have the part numbers you need.

I'm all done! The most expensive parts turn out to be original window frames for the top floor. Five of them are costing a small fortune, but I want it to match the instructions. No minifigs at this stage, but that'll do.

Ordered 60 of the dark red roof parts from Lego, along with various bits and pieces. Should get everything within a week or so.

Isn't it this part? There is more than 1.

You people are silly getting all of the figures. I figure I have enough people from all of my other sets.

I've ordered stuff from bricks and pieces and they told me they aren't available so couldn't include them in my order, yet they mailed them to me anyway. That was a nice surprise.

Can never have enough mini-figures! :classic: What was it they mailed to you? Bricks or figs?

Interesting. There's 4460 and 4460b. I was looking for 4460, of which there is only one available. Good spot!

I believe 4460b has a hollow stud and the other does not. Generally it wouldn't make any difference in the build, but as in this case, one of them is much easier to buy than the other.

What pieces aren't available through them?

I only tried to order pieces that were prohibitively expensive via BL. When I called quite a few of the pieces I was looking for couldn't be purchased:

  • minifigure torsos
  • 1 x 2 dark blue bricks
  • 1 x 4 x 1 dark blue grey fences
  • light blue grey garbage can bottom
  • street lamp
  • white skis (part has changed and I want the one originally in the set)
  • several larger black and dark blue grey plates

Yes, you could probably get 75% of the parts at any given time - but you will be paying a lot more than if you shopped around on BL. For instance, 1 x 8 bricks are $0.25 from Pick a Brick but the same piece from Bricks & Pieces is $0.55 - and chances are you could get them on BL from under $0.25 anyways.

Just as a heads up, Lego no longer make 4116941 (Outer cable, 80mm). My PaB order has had it deleted, but the customer services rep is sending a single longer version - looks like I may have to cut it down. They're also out of stock until March of the dark blue arch.

^ What part number are you using for that, and has it changed from the original part in Cafe Corner? I was on the phone placing a BnP order on the weekend I was told that part in that color was discontinued/retired and no replacement came up, just alternate colors (black, etc.).

(I had element ID: 4258479, Design ID: 3680.)

I'd really like to get that part, but it's just not economically viable with the current BL prices.

The most expensive parts turn out to be original window frames for the top floor. Five of them are costing a small fortune, but I want it to match the instructions.

There's no way I'd pay what's being asked for those original window frames. (Element ID: 4218638, design ID: 4132)

I don't know if it's going to "work" (with the 4133 window inserts), but I decided to try an alternate part (design ID: 60598), which were much more readily available and cheaper on BL. If that doesn't work, then I'll consider using 1x4x3 window frames and maybe double them up for the depth.

I ordered those from BnP last week without any problem, at least no problem that they mentioned to me on the phone. We''ll see what actually shows up...

I was told the same thing regarding the light blue-grey turntable bases.

If that doesn't work, then I'll consider using 1x4x3 window frames and maybe double them up for the depth.

In my LDD build of cafe corner I used only one 1x4x3 window for each of the 2nd floor window bays. It necessitated a little redesigning of the white pieces involved in the window builds (if I remember correctly the plans call for a white 2x4 plate to be placed underneath the window, I had to move it to the top of the window frame to support the portion of the build that was supported on the rear studs of the 2-deep windows) but as you can see in the render that I posted at the top of the page it looks identical from the outside. The major difference on the inside is that the window is inset by 1 stud - I put a white 1x4 tile to act as a windowsill. I did the exact same thing on the inside of the second floor windows using 1x2 white tiles for the interior windowsills.
