Bob De Quatre Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 Thanks for the feedback I currently use the left one, but I'll try the right one. Tonight I'll change the 19 of them and see how it looks I think I could give that a try. No promises though. When the ship is ready, I'll PM you a link to the LDD file. I've tried it saturday, but it got stuck after 10 hours, and not a single one pixel rendered Quote
couchsofa Posted June 2, 2013 Posted June 2, 2013 (edited) This is my current project, an underwater station: Higher resolution: Just added the corals so I gave it a pass in POV Ray. Still needs a lot of detail though and I would really appreciate your advice or ideas for some little scences on the sea bed. Edited June 2, 2013 by couchsofa Quote
Masked Builder Posted June 3, 2013 Posted June 3, 2013 Wow. That's HUGE!!! I think you need some more coral/fish details around the outside. Quote
Taseden Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 (edited) Couchsofa, our WIP MOCs can do battle: This build is taking forever due to interior and articulation. Couhch maybe add some crab, starfish, or sharks(like mine lol). Edited June 5, 2013 by Taseden Quote

Haha I think your shark might be a little too big. But I went ahead and added more corals and fishes as well as sharks. Full Resolution (Original rendering) Couchsofa, our WIP MOCs can do battle. This build is taking forever due to interior and articulation. Yeah it looks great, and I imagine the streamlined body of a shark doesn't make it easier :) How many parts are you using though? My file has about 3-5k bricks left before LDD and POV Ray won't be able to handle it, if you are under that threshhold it should be at least possible to add the shark to the station ... I'm still thinking about a theme for this MOC and "Giant Gene-Manipulated Killer Shark" escaping from an underwater research station doesn't sound so bad :D Quote

I didn't even know Lego made Manta Rays, sweeeeet. I really like the shark pack haha. Does it have an interior? Are you going to be building this in real life? My Shark is over 3500 pieces now and is probably at most 40-45 percent complete. Correct, building something curvy like a shark is very hard(I'm not a experienced Lego builder per se as well so this is taking forever to build). Trying to make it close to anatomically correct as well. I'm going to be having the Atlantis Shark people be her crew haha. Thanks for the comment. Quote

There is some basic interior in the station, handrails and cupboards, stuff like that. I will add more interior once I'm sure of the theme and purpose of the different rooms. Building this in physical reality would be awesome but I don't have the resources, or room for it :) Quote

You've really managed to achieve a very realistic shark look, I think after this you can call yourself an experienced LEGO builder Also I love the concept! But I went ahead and added more corals and fishes as well as sharks. Haha and I thought the shark was big - awesome base - I love how you have different levels and the rock outcroppings.... This makes me want to do a Moonbase Quote
Masked Builder Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 Looking much more populated, likin' it. Any thoughts on this? Quote
couchsofa Posted June 16, 2013 Posted June 16, 2013 Looking much more populated, likin' it. Thanks, I'm currently rendering the different modules and will probably add more details. Any thoughts on this? Hmmm, I like the concept, maybe add some detail to the sides of the engines, curves would look great here, I think. The change from the front to the cockpit section is a bit abrupt, maybe try to make it more continuous, I hope that gives you some ideas :) Quote
Sebeus I Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 (edited) Not sure if anyone can help me with this... I just don't know which way to go with it, it started as a submarine but I couldn't find a proper roof for the cabin (which was hard with that windshield) so I then had the Idea that it would be a snow hovercraft (with ski's). For some reason I had to add those big orange wings which have no function at all for the moment. So then I had some kind of flying speeder in mind. Oh and in the mean time I found a sollution to close the cabin but it does not fit the current design. Anyway, this random building process resulted in a vehicle of which I can't say anymore what it is. I haven't encountered this building problem before... Edited July 4, 2013 by Sebeus I Quote
Si-MOCs Posted July 4, 2013 Author Posted July 4, 2013 The pointed wings on top makes me feel like this is a speeder/starfighter. You could leave it open topped and be like one of those cloud city ships ... In which case swap out those ski's for another set of wings - you already have an nice downward angle with the click hinge there. And the over all shaping would work quite well for an atmospheric fighter! I'd also throw in another blue /something/ near the rear engine area to offset the blue in the 2x2 round. Looks good man, keep it up! Quote

This is what I'm going to do, I have a 6x6 dish in black, that will work too I think, I'll either dump the wings and go back to the submarine or add some more like SI-MOCs suggested for a fighter, depending on how it will look with the canopy closed. Thanks a lot . Quote

I would say whichever way you do it, you should keep it equidistant. I've always though that circular things should have engines spaced out accordingly. But yeah I'm thinking outside would be better, just cause it's something you don't see as often :) Quote

Flying squid saucer par BobDeQuatre, sur Flickr On another subject, I think I'll stop working on the Astradea. It's been almost 9 month since I started it, and my computer can't handle the amount of bricks. Today I had to remove all the internal structure to lessen the number of bricks (gained 4000 bricks). If some are interested, I could do a WIP thread about it. I also did some quick renders (click for bigger images): I did some quick renders Quote
tchuk-norst Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 Here's a new airship I've been toying with. The idea is for it to be more of a streamlined miliary model with a little less whimsy than some of my other MOCs. So I want it to be a front bridge, like I already have, and then go back to a gun deck and end in some more engines. But, i really don't have any idea how I can finish off the top of the bridge, what do you think? And another view, Quote
Bob De Quatre Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 (edited) I think you'll have to use 58546 or 95188. Some 41751 should work too. Edited July 24, 2013 by Bob De Quatre Quote
ikba Posted August 29, 2013 Posted August 29, 2013 (edited) I've been working on a MOC of Hal 9000 from the movie 2001: A Space Odyssey. I've done all I can think of but I still get the impression somethings not right. I've used a fiber optic tube and a light brick to illuminate HAL's eye, stickered HAL's screens, (Tried) to make a Frank and Dave, but something still looks off to me. Specifically, I am trying to re-create HAL from the curved living quarters of the discovery (where Frank and HAL play chess). It should technically be slightly curved, but I straitened HAL out as the curve of the room isn't as noticeable in the small section where HAL is. Any ideas? Something that I overlooked?
