Tom Jurassic Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 Item Name: Courscant Police Gunship Item Number: 75046 Item Release: Winter 2013/Spring 2014 Item Piece Count: 481 Item Minifigures: 4 ( Ahsoka Tano, Anakin Skywalker, 2x Shocktroopers) Item Price: £49.99 Box: Here we see the front of the Box, which displays a Nice Image of the Gunship, as well as three of the four included Minifigures. And here we see the back of the Box, which displays all of the features included in the set, as well as the Four Minifigures. It also includes the set Number, Theme, and an Image of Yoda with a Link to the Lego Star Wars Website. Minifigures: Here we see the four Minifigures included in the set. We get an updated version of Anakin Skywalker from the Nightspeeder, featuring new Printed and Detailed Legs, offering a nice alternative for fans who never bought the speeder. Also included is Ahsoka Tano, a re-release of the Minifigure included within the Umbaran Walker. Interestingly, the S3/4/5 Version of Ahsoka has only ever been included in Exclusive sets! Finally we have two Shocktroopers, with Gorgeous Red Paintwork, creating an awesome addition to the armies of Phase II Clones produced thus far. And here we see Ahsoka's alternate face Print, and the standard Clone Wars Clone Heads found underneath the Trooper's helmets: Courscant Police Gunship: And here we see the main form of Transport for Courscants ever troubled and riddled Police Force, the Police Gunship. Consisting of Blue, Grey and Reds, the Gunship is a beautiful hommage to traditional Police colours whilst still loooking good. The set is very accurate to the source material, and is interestingly constructed, using Helicopter Rotors in one element of the build. Here we have a Front, Back and Side view of this beast of a model: Now lets look at the features of this awesome vehicle, starting with the Cockpit. The Cockpit Flips Up and Reveals a Pull-Out Seating Arrangement allowing two clones to seat in close proximity at different heights. Here we see how the Cockpit flips up using a clever technic system: Allowing for this seating segment to be removed: Next up we have the Spring-Loaded Missiles within the build. These can shoot to some distance, and surprisingly, do not detract from the Aesthetic appeal of the build: Next is the Opening Troop Bay Door, revealing a sadly rather limit space for troopers: Lastly we have the Weapons Storage Section, revealing a turret which is bizzarely mounted on only one side. Sadly this storage space does not really work, since gaps mean accesories will go flying unless you have spare clip pieces. Conclusion: Over-all, this a well designed and well planned out set produced by Lego, well worthy of the Exclusive Tag. The model in the Show featured sharp angles and very hard-to-replicate features, so Lego have done a good job to replicate it to such a good extent of detail. However, the lack of adequate Troop Bay Space, The Problems with the Storage Bay, and the Lack of any truely noteable minifigures could perhaps be considered an issue. What I like: - Design -Figures Included -Features -Accuracy What I Dislike- - Disfunctionality of Features - Tiny Troop Bay - 4 Minifigs If the Price Point had been £10 more, but had included a Phase II Fox or Wollfe, I think this set would have offered a lot more as one of the last Clone Wars sets to be produced by TLG. It is a nice model, and I would strongly recommend buying it, but it lacks a few tweaks to make it amazing. LegoFan117 Quote
Lobot Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 Thanks for the review, but unfortunately your photos aren't visible Quote
Tom Jurassic Posted January 5, 2014 Author Posted January 5, 2014 Ack, I will sort this out when I am next on my Laptop! Quote
Sir_Basil_Ashton Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 Thanks for the review. I really like the updated Ahsoka minifig but something seems off with the Shock Troopers. The color scheme doesn't look quite right. I think this would have been the perfect opportunity to release a new Commander Fox. With TCW ending, I find it doubtful that we'll ever see a new Fox in minifig form. Quote
Tariq j Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 Thank you very much for the review Legofan 117, I'm hoping to purchase this set any time soon. The minifigures are superb, a ventress would have been nice but this is still a brilliant range nevertheless. I am though, very disappointed about the troop bay they managed to do it with last years republic gunship (though that was a bigger set). Quote
Brickdoctor Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 Thanks for the review. It looks like the problem was that you took the BBCode Photobucket gives you which was already properly formatted with link and image source, and then pasted that in between more IMG tags. I've fixed it. Quote
Darth Nader Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 Great review for a great set. While it's unfortunate that this set likes a commander Fox and new Ventress, this may be the only set that I'll pick up from the new wave that is not a battle pack. Quote
Faefrost Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 I mostly love it. It really could have done without yet another Anakin fig and given us a Bounty Hunter Ventriss or a dark side Barriss Ofee instead. Quote
donbarca Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 i believe the turret you find oddly placed is supposed to be an probe droid nice review..... i am not to keen on those shock troopers either but love how the ships looks Quote
Tom Jurassic Posted January 5, 2014 Author Posted January 5, 2014 Thanks for the Kind words everyone! :-) And thanks Brickdoctor for fixing my pictures! :-) Tom Quote
Commander Colt Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 Its not a bad set I think, but could use some refining in terms of build and variation in terms of figs (I prefer my own shocktroopers from the original BP to these ones). Judging by its size, with a bit of rearrangement, I feel they could have made a more efficient rear end, more fitting of a carrier type ship. Quote
Darth Malgus Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 As mine's on the way I found this set review to be very informative and has me excited about this set when it is delivered, thanks for the review. Quote
Flieger Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 Thank you for this review! I am still not sure if I shall buy the ship, but they captured the essence of the ship really well I think. This ship is a more of a patrol than a troop carrier, so I am fine with its limited space. It just the usual downsizing of Lego. PS: indeed, not a turret, a search probe. Quote
Tom Jurassic Posted January 6, 2014 Author Posted January 6, 2014 No need to thank me guys, I know you guys would have uploaded a review given the Oppurtunity! Thanks for the Heads-Up about the Probe Droid too, what an awesome little build! :) It's a Shame this set wasn't £59.99, as a Bounty Hunter Ventress and a Phase II Commander Fox would have really topped off the figure assortment nicely! Ack well, with Disney XD screening Clone Wars this year, I reckon a couple more CW Sets are in the lineup. Quote
Steph 104th Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 (edited) a Ventress with her helmet would have been great they could have used the iron man one which is very similar Edited January 7, 2014 by Steph 104th Quote
kingodacheez Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 Excellent review! Are those printed pieces, or stickers? I'm anxious to get a couple of these. Quote
HanShotFirst Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 Nice review, but I think I'll pass on this one. But that cockpit is pretty tempting. Quote
refriedbeans Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 After finally watching Season 5 today I simply must own this set and the Barc Speededer with sidecar sets. Both actually look very nice! Thanks for the review. Quote
Albatross Posted April 13, 2014 Posted April 13, 2014 This is a great set. Went into Toys R Us today because they had a Lego Movie event, where the kiddos could make Emmet's car. Ended up walking out with $65 in new SW Legos. That's how they get you I guess. Got some planet sets on clearance, Cloud Car for $5.40 and Naboo Fighter for $6.00. Anyway, the Coruscant Police Gunship was fun to build. I like the storage compartments and opening doors on the sides. My favorite part by far is how they did the cockpit canopy. I love how it opens out and up, great play value. My only nitpick would be how the wings sort of flop around instead of staying stationary. Quote
Tom Jurassic Posted April 13, 2014 Author Posted April 13, 2014 This was my first review, and looking back; thanks for all the kind and supportive comments, guys. Quote
Flieger Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 (edited) Due to the 20% discount at TRU, I finally got the set. I must say it is far better than I expected. When it was finished on my desk, it looked fabulous. It also holds a special meaning being one of the last TCW sets for a while. I can only second the review, it is well designed and the few design flaws it has can be solved easily. The storage area for example is extremely basic but can be retrofitted with all kinds of stuff. The good design features like the sliding cockpit windscreen are just big fun. And the transparent red reminds me so much of my first Lego sets, the Space Police I. http://vignette1.wik...95/6886_Box.jpg The only negative thing I have to mention is the minifig selection. I do understand why Lego chose the minifigs they chose, it makes sense with Ahsoka being the hunted and Anakin plus the Shock Troopers being on the ship. Still it somehow feels like Lego wasted the opportunity to give us Commander Fox. Edited May 1, 2015 by Flieger Quote
