Blakstone Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 This is third week of Middle-Earth Madness. Rohan Battle Pack was victorious again last week. If you had to pick only one Dream set, which would it be? Rohan Battle Pack OR Mount Doom Just like last week, these are dream sets so there is no hard or fast rule on what has to be included in either. Imagine you had a chance to greenlight just one LEGO Lord of the Rings set based on a simple description. Which one would you want? Summary from previous week(s): Week 2 - Rohan Battle Pack defeats the Watcher in the Water 14 to 7 Week 1 - Rohan Battle Pack defeats The Green Dragon 23 to 4. [Moderators, can you convert this thread into a poll please?] Quote
jodawill Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 Rohan Battle Pack hands down. It definitely sounds like more bang for the buck. Frodo, Sam, and Gollum would probably be the only minifigures included in a Mount Doom set, and the build probably wouldn't be terribly interesting. It's just rock. Quote
BlueberryWaffles Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 (edited) MOUNT DOOM! Edited January 6, 2014 by Tolkien Quote
Deathleech Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 Again I am a little torn. A Mount Doom like Bring More Popcorn described would actually be pretty cool and offer some new and exciting figs. If they just did a Mt. Doom with Sam, Frodo, and Gollum hanging out though I think the minifigure selection would be very lame despite any cool play features the mountain may have. I think Lego would probably just focus on the trio and not including anything else like Sauron or Frodo and Sam in orc costumes so I have to go with the Rohan Battle Pack yet again. Quote
greeklad97 Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 This is extremely difficult to decide! On one hand, I think we really need more Rohan soldiers considering the only Army builder with them, only came with one! Mount doom is such an iconic scene, and probably more likely, however I believe the minifigs would be pretty bland. If it is the last alliance Mount Doom, thats a different story! Not only would we get the iconic scene, but also important minifigures wiht Sauron, Gil-Galad, Elendil, Isildur, Last Alliance Elfs, Gondor Soldiers, and more Orcs, etc.! :) So overall, I have to say Mount Doom! AFOLguy1970 Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 Fun thread, I would say Mt. Doom if it included Sauron. If it's just a Frodo, Sam, and Gollum rehash, we might as well bring in the Rohan Battle Pack. I Vote for Mt. Doom with the assumption the big guy shows up. Quote
SirBlake Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 Rohan BP, though we could probably skip to the end of this section if of sets if a Gondor BP is on the list. That would win over just about anything. Quote
Hammerhand Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 (edited) Rohan battle pack. If Mount Doom came with Sauron/last alliance characters, then I'd vote for that, but I'm assuming it'd be with Sam, Frodo, and Gollum, so Rohan it is. We need more Rohan soldiers! Mr. Cube Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 Mount Doom can be easily build of bricks, so I vote again for Rohan (unique molds, prints, maybe new weapons). Quote
Moexy Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 (edited) Rohan Battle Pack, for the reasons already mentioned :) Edited January 6, 2014 by Moexy Quote
Blazej_Holen Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 Mount Doom if the set includes Sauron and maybe more unique stuff.. otherwise Rohan Battlepack, cuz I need to have proper royal guard and proper rohan steed :) Quote
Haltiamieli Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 Rohan Battle Pack, hands down. Even in the worst case scenario (lame build, repetition of earlier Rohan minifig(s), no new molds) Rohan Battle Pack would be at least a passable set, Mount Doom more or less requires the best case scenario (including Sauron and/or other Second Age figs, somehow managing an interesting build against all odds) to be any good at all. Glad you think my idea would be good! I agree with you on how Lego would most likely interpret the set, but I still think Mount Doom has potential! So 1 vote for Mount Doom! Quote

What minifigs? Theoden and Eomer? Or this one lame soldier? You´re acting like we already had a bunch of Riders of Rohan :D Quote
Haltiamieli Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 What minifigs? Theoden and Eomer? Or this one lame soldier? That's why I put the s in parenthesis. Quote
Blazej_Holen Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 Doesent change anything, TLG will hardly relase a set with 4 identical figs + for example one horse and some kind of strucutre :) Quote
Blakstone Posted January 6, 2014 Author Posted January 6, 2014 Blazej_Holen, there might be something in either the LotR license or in their market research but these types of army builders are not limited to LEGO Star Wars. Even the Lone Ranger wave had one. My goal with this tournament is to pit the concept of the sets against each other without going into a lot of detail as to what each contains. Bring More Popcorn's notion of an elaborate Mount Doom set with a lot of play features is just as valid as a $12 set with Frodo, Golumn, and a little bit of gray brick. The same is true with the Rohan Battle Pack. Would it have new helmet molds and new prints on the minifigs / soldiers? Would it be limited to the same prints and molds? Each person voting can decide if they want to be optimistic, pestimistic, or realistic and what that means. Quote
mpoh98 Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 (edited) Oh, definitely Rohan Battle Pack, that would be so awesome! Edited January 6, 2014 by mpoh98 Quote
Brickadiergerard Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 Rohan BP at it's best would include a royal guard, shields with the white horse emblem of the house of Eorl, a cool banner and a Rohan captain, a decent new horse or two and a couple of new soldiers. Mount Doom at its best would be Tired Frodo and Sam and another Gollum and plenty of rocks. Sauron, Gilgalad, Elendil and co would surely be in a ser called Last Alliance - their involvement with Mount Doom itself is either limited or non-existent. For me, Rohan BP beats any realistic Mount Doom set, but it wouldn't beat a Last Alliance one. So for the present round, another vote for Rohan please. But its days are numbered. Quote
