Heroica RPG - Quest#93: School's Out

"Hmm... seems as if though we have some options here. Shall we attempt to put the model together? Or do you guys want to move on?"

Karie looks around to ensure all the parts are in the room, and that all the parts in one piece.

[Endgame]

"There isn't going to be a mirror Saga, is there? Or am I going to have to prance through Stirlance's "An Ode to Undead Genocide?""

I take a deep breath, and submerge that bitter part of my consciousness.

"Karie... Will you help me reassemble this? Some bonding that isn't murderous for once? From top to bottom: Exofors, Spyrium, Olegaia, Galidoor, Belvel, and then Aureol - the Sun."

[Kintobor]

"Sure thing."

She looks through the parts, trying to remember what planet was which.

"It's kind of weird, having all these planets at the palm of my finger tips when in reality they're out of our reach. You think there's life out there? In space?"

[Endgame]

"...Yes. If there is some sort of weird dimension where all of these demons are crawling out of, life on other planets seems likely enough."

I point to Galidoor.

"I wonder what that one is like, especailly? It looks awfully like Olegaia."

[Kintobor]

"Hmm. I guess you make a point."

Karie picks up the two pieces that formed Galidoor, looking them over.

"What, this? I guess it kind of does, but then how did someone see all this stuff on the globe? Do we know there to be other continents on this planet, or is it some artists interpretation? I don't know, I never really paid attention to any of this stuff. It seemed irrelevant at the time."

[Endgame]

"Probably just an artist taking a wild guess, really...

Irrelevant? Why's that?"

[Kintobor]

Karie shrugs.

"At that point in my life, I felt that astronomy wasn't important. I didn't really feel like anything I did in school was important. Looking back, it might've helped if I actually paid attention instead of skipping classes and playing cards and getting into the occasional fight. Like that time I beat on that little prick Winslow..."

[Endgame]

"Wondr why you chose magic instead of just using your fists?" I muse.

"...If you could go back, study, get through academy... would you?"

[Cutcobra]

"Oh, so when I do it I'm a greedy pilfering bastard, but when Karie does it on Hawke it's okay right?"

Heckz looks at the money.

"I'll send this along with her body too. You people shouldn't start judging me if you don't even know what I'm going to do..."

Heckz puts 51 gold on the box, making sure nobody sees him keeping one gold. He then proceeds to give one of his Tonics to Noel (which he consumes) and acompanies him to the box to send Pleiades away with the gold.

He goes back to the Planetarium with Noel.

"I don't really know much about Planets, so you people do your th- OH LOOK AT THE GOLD SHINY ONE!"

Heckz runs to grab the small gold planet and show it off to everyone.

"It's beautiful, like me. And like me, it's always number one. Which means..."

Heckz proceeds to try and put Exofors in the top.

Heckz turns to the door.

"Okay let me guess: You're the prey and I'm the one who is going to be pissed off if you don't let us through."

[Kintobor]

Karie opens her mouth, but is cut off by Heckz.

"So much for bonding time..."

"Oh, yes, of course." Erik heals Thalion. "I'd be careful with those helmets, though. Don't want to get controlled by some other demons."

"My thanks. That is precisely the reason I wanted to examine the pieces, to see if there was any residual magical energies in them. I didn't want them to fall to another demon's hands and cause harm to more students. But it looks like they serve a different purpose."

"I doubt that. It would depend on the condition of the model."

Karie inspects the model to see if it could be rebuilt, and what state the pieces are in.

"Since our party leader is pilfering gold from a dead woman, Noel, can you get Pleiades back to the city? Why don't some of you boys help him out by putting her body in the box."

She looks sternly at Heckz.

Thalion turns his eyes away from the pieces and gives Karie a questioning/scolding look, "Funny how you weren't so judgmental when you were taking things from professor Hawke's body... The only reason I didn't say anything then, nor now, is because I do trust you and Heckz will bring that gold to the families of the departed. And trust me, you would really want to do that..." He hands her and Sorrow pieces of the planets and rubs the lamp in order to bring Djinnifer.

"EVERYONE HAS THEIR OWN PLACE IN THIS WORLD. OTHERS SUCK SOULS, OTHERS GUARD ENTRANCES AND OTHERS ARE THE PREY. CARE TO GUESS WHICH ROLE YOU PLAY IN THIS?"

(You will burn door! Oh how you will burn...) Thalion thought to himself, remembering the wyrdfire and trying to come up with a spell that could create such a strong flame.

OOC: I think everyone seems to be forgetting that Thalion has picked up the pieces, so he is still holding them; up until the moment he handed them to Karie that is...

[Endgame]

Karie opens her mouth, but is cut off by Heckz.

"So much for bonding time..."

"Just ignore him, and maybe we can get a little bit more conversation in... Hopefully his mean-streak ends before New Year's."

[Cutcobra]

"You have time for bonding time when you are in the hall, not in the middle of a serious demonic quest."

Heckz turns to Thalion who appears to be rubbing the Magic Lamp.

"What did that thing turn out to do? Or was it just some fake?"

[Endgame]

"You have time for bonding time when you are in the hall, not in the middle of a serious demonic quest."

"To be perfectly fairs, Heckz, if I don't unwind, I'm probably going to die a premature death because of high stress and blood pressure. Unless you know a cure for caridac arrest?"

[Cutcobra]

"Aren't you already dead? No offence."

Says Heckz confused.

[Endgame]

"Lets just say that this time, I'm not coming back... At least, I hope no one resurrects me this time around."

Heckz turns to Thalion who appears to be rubbing the Magic Lamp.

"What did that thing turn out to do? Or was it just some fake?"

"I can tell you, but perhaps its better to just wait and see for yourselves. I dont want to spoil your surprise..."

Karie sighs.

"Look. When I went through Hawke's things, I did so with the intention of using the items to our benefit. Heckz went and pocketed the gold for himself. I gave three of the Herbal Infusions to the kids, and I intend to return the money to his family, should he have any. If not... well, Hawke probably had friends who he would probably want it going to. I thought considering what's going on, he'd want us to use what he had on him to carry on."

She holds out the Bumblefan Shirt to Thailon.

"This is yours, right? You might as well take it back. I have no right holding onto it. Sorry if it felt like I stole it."

Karie wanted to correct him that they left the hall after New Years, but it didn't feel right.

"Sure.

Well, I honestly never wanted to use my fists. I just found out when I was in school I could hold my own in a scrap. First time-"

Karie's cut off once again by Heckz. She looks to Thailon, wondering what he's talking about as he pulls out the lamp. What did he mean by a surprise?

[Cutcobra]

"Oh noes... Who's getting to keep you gold? "

"And speaking of 'Cardiac Arrests' I'm not a doctor, but I can fix a lady's broken heart..."

Says Heckz as he winks at Drucilla once again.

[Endgame]

I give something between a cross between a growl and a sigh.

"Look. Heckz. I am trying to talk to my granddaughter here. So if you want to keep insitagating, I'm going to tell you right now: That is avery, very, poor choice. My patience is gone, and I'm trying to recharge here. And if you think at this rate you are getting even a footnote in my will, you are also sorely mistaken! Now, quit harassing your fellow heroes and poor Drucilla.

So, Karie, you were saying...?"

Heckz turns away from Sorrow angrily.

"Start guessing who's not getting a footnote of gold when this quest is over..."

Heckz turns to Thalion

"Ooh, a surprise? I love surprises! Unless it's a pie in my face. My poor sister had to learn that by being 2 days unconcious in the basement."

[Endgame]

I scowl, and attempt to disregard Heckz's comment. Especially the part about locking is sister up in the basement...

"I, uh, won't press you on it anymore, if you like. We can stop. If you need help - advice, funds for the wedding - you know who to ask."

Gulp. I just mentioned the wedding in front of heckz... Baaaad mistake...

Karie disapprovingly frowns at Heckz as he turns away.

"Don't listen to him, Sorrow. If worse comes to worse, I'll give you my gold. I don't really need it all that much anyways, since my rent is covered by my other job.

I don't know why I decided to go with the use of magic. At the time everything else seemed so barbaric. I can't see myself as an assassin, or a raider. Black knights wear too much armour, and honestly I can't see myself lugging all of it around, and sorcerer, well, I didn't have anything in terms of gems. Training in healing just seemed like the right fit. And I like doing it. I feel calmer when I'm healing others. Even if it is a little weird." Karie allows her hands to course with the purple aura before letting it go.

"About the college... I don't know. I've got enough things to deal with in my life right now that going back and getting some kind of degree is out of the question."

"Yeah, I can see how its soothing.

I suppose about college I meant... retroactively, I guess. If you could change the past, and never come to Eubric."

Karie pauses for a moment. She never really thought about what would've happened if she hadn't dropped out. There were nights where she questioned her decision, but never had she put much thought into it.

"I don't think I'd be me. I'd be Karie Alderflask, but I wouldn't be who I am here and now. If I went back and changed the past, I would never of met you, Sorrow."
