You actually have several ways to defeat the enemy which are pretty obvious if you just use your logic.

So presumably we can beat him without the artifact.

"Your what?!" Heckz looks from Sorrow to Karie and to Sorrow once again. "Oh, I see the resemblance now... your granddaughter is like, totally not worthless or useless she's like the best." Says Heckz, scared that the Assassin will cut a his face if he says something bad about Karie.

Karie clenches her fists as the word "useless bounces around in her skull, clanging like a bell. She could hear her adoptive mother sneering behind her, harassing and taunting her. She turn to Heckz, looking slightly disgusted.

"Heckz. I've met men like you. One of them was named Marty the Face. He was handsome and vain. And traitorous. You know what I did to him after my party beat him and his cronies up? I carved his face. He plead me not to, but I did. I gave one deep scar into his devilishly handsome cheek. Call me useless one more time and I'll paint your face black and blue."

She felt sick just bringing Marty up, partly because she threw up in the alley, partly because she fell into his trap.

"Trainwreck from start to finish, like I said. Why does it seem that we all resent one thing about the other? It literally forms a triangle..."
