GregoryBrick Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 I have to say though, Marge, Lisa, and Bart look wrong. Why do they all have sleepy looking eyes and duck faces? I like the black lines and the eyes look good, the only thing about the figs I don't like is the mouths, They all look like teenage girls making the duck face. In regards to their 'duck faces', when the Simpsons characters are faithfully rendered in 3D, that's exactly what they look like. Between the demands of being show-accurate and meeting the requirements of the license holder, I don't know how else these minifigures could look. Every non-LEGO Simpsons figure which has tried to be show-accurate, as far as I can tell, has looked exactly the same as these. Is there some example out there of how you think they should look? All the mock-ups of Simpsons characters which use regular minifigure heads look downright alarming to me, so I remain confused at what people think should have been different. Quote
Brickadiergerard Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 I think that given the medium in which they're working, TLG's designers have made this this best possible rendition of the subject that they could've done. It's a labour of love on the same scale (metaphorically and literally I suppose) as Orthanc is, full of little nods to the show. Much as I admire it, and think it's fairly reasonably priced for what it it, I won't be getting it because I just can't get sucked in to another theme and another big set. I won't. Must. Exercise. Self-control. But I will try and BL the car. And Flanders. And Lionel Hutz if he becomes a CMF. Quote
KingPixels Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 The heads have grown on me a bit, but it's still really strange how Maggie's is so much larger than Marge's. IMO Marge's is the perfect size. Quote
Covi Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 (edited) I just hope it won't be smashed with a couple of stickersheets and that everything is printed... Edited January 8, 2014 by Covi Quote
The_Chosen_1 Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 WOW. Just......WOW!! Marcos has done an absolutely amazing job with this set. The new molding technique will indeed be a game changer for the Lego brand. I wish they could have used it to give some of the hobbit minifigures a "barefoot" look. Quote
Capt. Redblade Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 It makes me so wonderfully giddy that they included an inanimate carbon rod. Quote
Cammo Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 Too bad it can't fit in a Detolf cabinet :/ Quote
TeufelHund Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 I like the little details like Itchy and Scratchy being on TV and the "Property of Ned Flanders" stickers, but I'm not interested enough in the build or the Simpsons to justify the cost of this. Now if they did a Futurama Planet Express on the other hand... Quote
Hewman Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 It makes me so wonderfully giddy that they included an inanimate carbon rod. Sorry to burst your bubble, but it's actually a radioactive bar like in the opening credits according to the press release. However, I will be pretending it's an inanimate carbon rod. Quote
gedren_y Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 Stickers are difficult to tell with these images. A couple CMF parts have made it into this. Lisa's backpack appears to be the skydiver's pack, and the mechanic's tool box is in the garage. You also get two of the new flower pot parts in the same color as the Parisian Restaurant. The radio is actually color accurate to one used in the show early on. Bart's lamp uses a hot dog to get the look. You get some of the Friends line kitchenware. I'd buy this primarily for the large amount of tan bricks, but also the bright colored parts would make awesome color details for my Kaliphlin builds. This is a major GOH parts pack. I will have to start putting money aside. That and my VIP points should give this to me some time near my birthday. Quote
Rexworth Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 (edited) I really love this set (I'll definitely be picking it up) and I know it sounds like nitpicking, but it's irking me that the room placement is completely off from what it is in the show. That is what did not look correct to me! The kitchen should be in back. The piano should be front right looking out. The TV is in the wrong spot. The stairs should be near the front door. No Basement door. No door in back of garage for Homer to run though at beginning of show. But it is LEGO bricks and can be rebuild in the correct floor plan. So, I am going to buy it. :P P.S. I bought an extra C.M.F. Sax player just for Lisa to have a Sax. I just saw Marge's dress and movable legs! Edited January 9, 2014 by Rexworth Quote
BrickG Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 Of course it wont' have everything. It's not quite to minifigure scale. Heck, one whole noticeable part of the outside is missing (the thing above the garage). Also the garage can fit two cars in the show, not here. Basically this house needs to be like maybe 150% the size that it is, which is why I might buy two just so I can make a truer version of the thing. Quote
rollermonkey Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 OK. I'm torn. The minifigs are pretty much what they ought to be. The half-closed eyes cannot be the make or break on a 2500+ piece set for me. The house, at first look, is incredible. So many iconic elements made the cut, but then... BrickG posts those screen caps, and we see how much is actually missing. The idea of getting two and merging them to make a more accurate house is, of course, an atractive idea, but then the whole house becomes larger than almost any City set or other minifig scale building. Mostly, I'm hoping that those molded arms and legs are TLGs way of telling us that they hear the complaints and nearly all parts will either be molded this way or printed so that they can get away from stickers entirely. Rexworth Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 Doh, I will have to buy 2 sets. he he he. 2 Car garage, dinning room.... So much to build, so little time to build. Quote
rollermonkey Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 Dining room? There's three living room / sitting rooms and they eat in the kitchen! Quote
Rexworth Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 Dining room? There's three living room / sitting rooms and they eat in the kitchen! Between Garage and stairs there is a dinning table. Quote
strangely Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 That is what did not look correct to me! The kitchen should be in back. The piano should be front right looking out. The TV is in the wrong spot. The stairs should be near the front door. No Basement door. No door in back of garage for Homer to run though at beginning of show. The rumpus room behind the garage is missing as well as Marge and Homer's ensuite. Maggie's room is gone and instead her crib has been placed in her parent's bedroom. Also the dining room and front sitting room is absent. Looking at it closely the main problem with the build is that it isn't deep enough, it would have to go back much farther in order to fit the front sitting room and dining room. Bart and Lisa's room are also in the wrong positions. Again all of these issues could be fixed if the house extended farther back. I'll probably end up hunting down the bricks to do that at some point. I'd guess it'll have to be a third wider to fit everything. Quote
damo Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 I really love this set. Cant wait to get it. Probably need to make a tree and put bart's tree house in the back aswell. An excellent job Quote
wokajablocka Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 (edited) I need this set, finally Blocko, oh I mean Lego and Simpson's are married. Edited January 9, 2014 by wokajablocka Quote
CM4Sci Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 (edited) Did anyone notice how Maggie's body has a more square-ish shape instead of a slant on each side? Also, does anyone know what those white half-domes are in each of the rooms in the top floor? -Sci Edited January 9, 2014 by CM4S Quote

Doom2099 Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 (edited) Wow, this is looking great! Thanks for the high res pictures. For the minifigures, it's a bit of a mixed bag. The sleeves and shorts are going to be great not just for this line, but for all minifigs in the future. And Maggie's body is perfect for anyone trying to recreate a real family. Sadly, the half closed eyes on Homer, Marge and Bart don't really look that good. Maybe we'll have different head molds in different sets wtih different expressions? At the same time, given how far Star Wars figures have come over the last decade, I hope this is just early growing pains as well. Can't wait to see the first MOC for Homer's Mr. Plow! badbob001 Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 I said it and I repeat: both the arms and the minilegs have both colors molded!! There's no decoration or printing involved! ;) Neat, uh? ;) You know what this means? I'm definitely getting this and all the related CMFs so I can have as much of those new dual-mold arms and legs as I can get. Yum! Too bad it can't fit in a Detolf cabinet :/ The garage is detachable. I'd buy this primarily for the large amount of tan bricks, but also the bright colored parts would make awesome color details for my Kaliphlin builds. Speaking of tan bricks, this house would fit well next to Olivia's tan house. Maybe they can house swap. Quote
KingPixels Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 (edited) Could've sworn I'd made a comment here earlier. Oh well. Anyway, the minifigs have grown on me a bit, even though the head sizes are still a bit off. Marge's is perfect, and it looks strange that Maggie's is so much larger than her mother's. EDIT: Whoops, just noticed that I actually did leave a comment on the last page. Edited January 9, 2014 by KingPixels Quote
