All this talk about bricklinking long out of production sets (specifically the UCS Falcon) has me curious - has anyone bricklinked a 10030 ISD?

I have two (yes, two) old light gray ISD's, been staring at them for a while and I've been wanting to trade one up for a new bley ISD, but haven't had much luck with that... other than the large tractor tires in the back, everything else seems mostly attainable. They're both built, definitely not mint, but they are complete. I bought the second thinking it was the bley version (even the seller said it was), but it was too good to pass up even for an old grey version.

Has anyone attempted it and how much did it cost, if I may ask?

Hi Taiphun, yes, I rebuilt 10030 in lbg. It is not 100% identical due to some missing parts on bricklink:

* the lower half of the tractor beam is in dbg, the upper one in old grey. This is not perfect but okay for me. I haven't yet found a good solution to build it directly with bricks. Still working on it...

* the structure of the plates (upper and lower sides) is different to the original as the large tile plates were not available / too expensive

* at first I had the engines with black tires and planned on painting them. But now I have a solution done with bricks and I like it that way very much!

So, now the final question. I bought almost all bricks via bricklink and paid around 750 €. This is quite expensive, but LEGO here in Germany is expensive! For example, I bought all Technic bricks for the inner structure in the US (approx. 60 $ incl. shipping: good deal). Cheapest seller here in Germany would have been around 100-120 $!!! Furthermore I had to buy all magnets (good for you, that you don't have to). A good solution is the old set 6969, there are four magnets in. Via ebay I got several for just 5-6 €!

So, yes, I can be done! I hope this helps you and other interested bricklinkers.

In the beginning I had some plates in dbg. That was quite okay. But, in the meantime the whole hull went lbg. I will post some better pics later on.

I bought some additional magnets, perhaps I will be able to stabilise it.

I've thought about this, but the LBG/LG problems have deterred me...good luck if you decide to tackle it!

At a set of this scale, is there any way to bricklink a set for under its msrp? (By foregoing certain larger rarer pieces?)

For the sandcrawler, I suspect that it will be an expanded remake of the last one, 10144, though since the price is double, it would be the largest non-UCS set besides the deathstar playset.

It might be Lego's way of releasing the Cuusoo model that reached 10K as they probably already wanted to make Cuusoo for nonbranded sets at that point(Issues with BTTF license?).

The user "Lobot" tried to bricklink the 10030. He bricklinked the DS II and UCS MF but finally gave up bricklinking the UCS ISD because it was too expensive (he wrote that buying a decent used version is cheaper).

I think bricklinking sets can be a very exiting experience but in this case it is not the cheapest way of getting the set.

Yes, it was a lot of fun bricklinking this set.

In this case, I think it is more or less the same price if you buy it directly or bricklink the set. Here in Germany you have to pay approx. 1,000 € to get this set. I paid less via bricklink, but of course my ISD is not 100% original. So you have to decide what you want.

For example - like Robert already said - the DSII is way cheaper via bricklink.

I just finished building the 10030 a month or so ago and while bulding it I was inclined to look into replacing the old light gray with bley parts. This is an insane idea but based on that picture it looks really good with the contrasting dark parts. I did find that this set lends itself very well to custom greebling as it is basically a large blank canvas!!!
