KimT Posted August 23, 2010 Author Posted August 23, 2010 The MOC Index has been fully updated (except for that little something from The Legonater ). And as promised I shoved a neat MOC on the Frontpage - a new era is upon us Did you know that instead of going through a zillion posts in the MOC Index you can do the same thing in the Gallery from which I take the thumbs? You can even rate the MOCs, so that you can view the most liked ones as the first ones. I've added links to the topics for around the last 100 MOC's I've been adding. Check it out here and let me know what you think of it. Quote
ThatGuyWithTheBricks Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 I'd like to know what happened to the Epic Scenes essay contest thing. Quote

Check it out here and let me know what you think of it. I think the Gallery page is much much better than the MOC Index for the following reasons: - I love how you could see the MOCs in a more presentable thumbnail view instead of the regular vertical view of the MOC index - The Gallery does not take too much time to load unlike the MOC Index - There's a rating system where fans can vote! Great job on organizing these KimT, I know indexing and gallerizing 100+ MOCs is a very tedious time and effort-consuming task. You deserve some type of reward for your 'job'. Thanks! Quote
KimT Posted August 24, 2010 Author Posted August 24, 2010 Whenever you guys say "Thanks" is more pay than I need I too think the Gallery is a great feature that allows an easy overview og the MOC's. Which is why I added the topic links to each picture. Yeah adding 100+ MOCs to the index is quite a lot of work which includes 3-4 open web-browsers and a helluva lot of right-click-and-save moves But I'm getting the hang of it. As for the Epic Scenes Crowd Pleaser vote-essay-thingy I plan to reveal the Winner and raffle winners within this week. I am considering a let-go of the MOC Index and keeping it all in the Gallery - but I am not sure, the adding to the Index is not that much more work when already adding them to the Gallery. Quote

I would prefer the Gallery over the MOC Index. Also, since the Gallery is relatively new and members are still unaware of its location, so probably it would be better to pin it on the LSW forum frontpage? Quote

Oky Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 So what do you two think of the General Questions thread? Do you think you could index it and merge unnecessary individual question topics into it whenever they pop up? It would really help keeping the forum "clean". And I wouldn't mind if you keep all the indexing to the flickr gallery. Quote
KimT Posted August 24, 2010 Author Posted August 24, 2010 It's not the Eurobricks Star Wars MOC'ers League pool on flickr Oky, it's the gallery featured here on EB. Just follow the link in one of the above posts. I think the General Questions topic is a good idea which is why I pinned it. We'll see if it works or not. Please leave it up to us to decide which topics to merge with it. What I/We wont have is that people turn into mini-modders telling other members where to post their questions and so on. We'll take care of that, that's why we're here. Quote

I don't mean to complain, but it sure seems to a long time to get contest results in. The worst part is that I seem to be the only one who remembers/cares. Quote

I think after nearly two months, thatguywiththebricks has been sufficiently patient to deserve an inquiry. . I've been very curious too. Contests are somewhat unique in that they initially draw a lot of high intensity interest, but after a while, people move on to other things. When results are long delayed without updates, they tend to lose relevance somewhat. I know people are busy, and delays happen. When delays happen, it's a matter of professional courtesy to send out a note letting people know what's going on, before people have to start wondering if they've been forgotten about. Busy or not, it just takes a second to let people know. Just a thought. That all said, I do appreciate all the work people put into judging these contests! I know they're not easy to host and people have lots of other things on their plates. Edited September 19, 2010 by Blackicep8ntball Quote
Sam Vimes Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 I have a Idea for a Contest, lets do a Star Wars VS Star Trek contest, where people make entrys with Star Wars things attacking Star Trek things. Quote

I know they're not easy to host and people have lots of other things on their plates. I beg your pardon. I've got a life to live next to this. This is my hobby and done in the sparse time I have, when not working or being with my family. I am sorry if that's an inconvenience to you, but that's the way things are. Plus a lot of other stuff which bothers me at the time being, stuff that's noone's business but mine, my family and a few good friends. If I was paid and given a full time job as an site moderator, then I'd take no offense in your comment, but I am not and therefor I am offended by your lack of understanding. Blackicep8ntball Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 I'm frustrated that things like this keep happening. Earlier this year, as similar issue appeared with a contest and subsequent delay over at Classic-Space.com, and a contestant got nasty with the contest admin and he got nasty back. I'm not interested in repeating that here. As I suggested over at Classic-Space when things got nasty, I'm simply suggesting a compromise between the parties here. I don't think anyone's asking you to post the results of the contest tomorrow; they're just asking that you take a second and post an update: "Hey guys, there's been a delay, but I'm working on the contest and haven't forgotten". I think that would fit into your hectic schedule. People shouldn't have to ask you first, especially not after you said you planned to have the results up the week of Aug. 24th. Common courtesy, bro, that when you don't meet your own deadline, you just post a note for posterity. You post a note, no one has to feel like they're pestering you, and everyone's happy. Hardly a controversial or insulting suggestion. Quote
KimT Posted September 20, 2010 Author Posted September 20, 2010 You're quite right. I should have informed you guys that there was a delay and for that I apologize. It's almost ready, reading through all those votes took some time. I hope to get it done by tonight - if my daughter (and wife) let's me have some time for myself in a few hours. I only need to wrap up a few things concerning the prizes and links. I agree - let's not let this turn nasty. I only ask that you guys understand that all of this (Eurobricks) is run as a hobby and not as a job. - though it feels that way sometimes Quote
Blackicep8ntball Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 (edited) Wow, I appreciate your gracious response KimT. You have my sincere thanks for all the time you put into your hobby; you guys are way under-appreciated on here, no doubt about that. Looking forward to the results, but if you don’t get them tonight because your spending time with the wife and daughter, I think I speak for all of us when I say we won’t blame you. Thanks again man. Mr. Elijah Timms Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 (edited) Hey KimT, I have a question: Been a fan for a long time. There once was an age where I had no desire to join EB and simply checked in here just to read the SW rumors thread. Thanks for all the info over the years. Anyway... What do you think the ratio is here at EB Star Wars for builders/fans of the OT versus the Prequel/EU/Clone Wars crowd?? I've never hid the fact that I'm strictly an OT guy and am not much of a LSW collector any longer. I'm beginning to wonder if TLG and Lucasfilm in general have done a good enough job marketing and developing new fans with new content that they're not worried about the original Star Wars collector generation moving on/letting go? Have they effectively developed a new core audience? Edited September 20, 2010 by Mr. Elijah Timms Quote
ThatGuyWithTheBricks Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 (edited) Nevermind. Edited September 20, 2010 by ThatGuyWithTheBricks Quote
KimT Posted September 20, 2010 Author Posted September 20, 2010 The Clone Wars and PT have been around for so long that the core audience probably is evolving around those. But I'm sure that the ol' skool' fans of the OT will be getting loads of sets in the future. They wouldn't have given us the 10212 UCS Lambda Shuttle, unless there is a market for it, would they? There's still plenty OT fans around for them to produce and design new sets. But in time I think the Era of OT will come to an end. I dunno when, but the CW sets are taking over more and more of the Star Wars line each year and for good reasons. Money, money and more money. Kids know Darth Vader, yes, but they like Anakin even more A lot of them doesn't even know that Vader = Anakin and Palpatine = The Emperor. Personally I am an OT fan all the way, but I still like the CW sets very much, especially since TLG is getting so darn good at designing sets the past years. I just bought the CW series season 1 and 2 (yes, I have only seen 2 episodes of the first season - and the movie is still missing too ). So I'll soon be up to speed - perhaps On Eurobricks we're getting more and more Clone Wars fans every day. But the OT fans still around are EB core fans - they die harder. A lot of the new CW fans are young and a lot of them still have to endure education and the lure immense... women and what they do to our manhood Members come and go, but the names I recognize (mebers with several years of membership) are all OT fans. In a few years, most of the core members will probably be CW fans, but that's a whole different discussion on internet anthropology and evolution. Quote
KimT Posted September 23, 2010 Author Posted September 23, 2010 TLG's lawyers are on a rampage getting flickr, brickshelf and similar sites to ban members posting preliminary and confidential pictures. - The pictures are copyrighted and not to be shown outside the retailers' catalog. Which actually means that retailers sharing that catalog is violating their agreement with TLG - see how this quickly gets very serious? Refrain from deeplinking pictures on Eurobricks - and please refrain from covering yourself by saying you've got them here. We've been getting hell because some people have written that they've got the pictures from Eurobricks in their flickr photstreams. We do not support leaking preliminary pictures. We cannot avoid talking about what we see, but we can avoid being part of them spreading. Quote
