XimenaPaulina Posted January 30, 2011 Posted January 30, 2011 That is a nice idea Doc, I understand where you're coming from with the comparisons with the classic blogs from the other themes. But I guess this will all depend on the success of the new EB SW forum blog (which is doing great so far). Knowing the current blog is still on its infancy stages, I think we should let it take its growth and development first, before venturing into this proposed classic Star Wars blog. Besides, KimT is single-handedly manning the blog right now, Stash and I are still figuring out how we could need to lend a helping hand with the blog. But personally, I am not really for having a separate blog for classic SW vs. modern SW, nor OT-PT vs CW. We should follow EB's motto of 'Uniting Fans around the World', so anything that creates division, even if unintentional or not, among SW fans is not really healthy IMHO. Quote

Still, you can't deny that there is a difference between the first wave of rehashes in '04 and the older sets up to that point, as well as between the sets from '08 on and sets released before then. I'm also wondering whether we couldn't entertain Churchill's idea: I wish we had a section where we could keep current MOC's from the OT, for continued review, reference, etc. Like a reference library, as opposed to just an index of MOC's. I would like such a blog not to discriminate against CW modern fans despite its name; that would just reflect what the majority of its staff are interested in. And like I said, I wouldn't expect it to immediately (or even any time soon) become a portal, as SW is a much more varied theme than Town or Pirates IMHO, with all due respect to fans of those themes. Not to mention that in Pirates' case, nearly all their waves are classic ones. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 I really like the new banners you've been using for the blog, KimT. The latest with Maul's lightsaber as a background to accentuate the text is my favorite. Quote
prateek Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 I think the Star Wars moderators should have a link to the blog in their signatures, because I don't know the website, and I'm too lazy to Google it Quote
StoutFiles Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 I feel like creating a classic forum would stretch the user base too thin. Instead of one busy forum, we'd have two quiet forums. It's a big reason why I rarely visit FBTB, the SW forum has long periods of no posts. Quote
XimenaPaulina Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 I think the Star Wars moderators should have a link to the blog in their signatures, because I don't know the website, and I'm too lazy to Google it Great idea prateek, I too experience finding myself having a difficult time finding the link sometimes. So I volunteer myself to be the 'walking advertisement' for the EB SW Forum blog (promoting it is the least I could do). Image link is in my sig. BTW, the exact address is eurobricksstarwarsforum.com, and the banner is not my artwork, the identity of the talented artist who made this will be revealed in the proper time. Quote
KimT Posted March 3, 2011 Author Posted March 3, 2011 And now we've got a link that'll lead you directly to Shop@Home's Star Wars section plus a smaller one that'll take you directly to Shop@Home Sales & Deals. Can it be an easier? The banners are just the first move towards improving the blog. I agree that we have to tweak the colour scheme and I'm working on persuading someone to do it. Quote
The Legonater Posted March 4, 2011 Posted March 4, 2011 (edited) I really like the new banners you've been using for the blog, KimT. The latest with Maul's lightsaber as a background to accentuate the text is my favorite. You took the words out of my mouth. I love these banners- all of them- and aplaud all who worked on them. Nice job! Edited March 4, 2011 by The Legonater Quote
CommanderFox Posted March 4, 2011 Posted March 4, 2011 Blog is looking good Kim! Keep it up. The banners are great! Whenever I have a look, there is always a ton of new articles, which is nice as you get a nice refresh of whats happening on the internet in the SW lego world. Anything us members can do to help out, don't hesitate to ask, we will rise to the challenge! CF Quote
Brickdoctor Posted March 4, 2011 Posted March 4, 2011 I noticed a few new banners in the EB SW flickr stream - including some I'd never seen before. And I also noticed that they were made by various EB members. Was this sort of a banner competition? Anything us members can do to help out, don't hesitate to ask, we will rise to the challenge! Agreed! Quote
Fallenangel Posted March 4, 2011 Posted March 4, 2011 This isn't explicitly Star Wars, but here goes... With the amount of tech available to us, do you suppose it would be possible to orchestrate a sort of "virtual building"-type thing where people create brick renditions of others' LDD MOCs, or build something with their parts according to another member's instructions? This would help for members such as those who want to make a UCS something-or-other or a huge diorama but can't afford to order 1000 parts off bricklink, or something. For example, if you were making a TIE fighter - one member could one panel and a pylon, and then direct another member to build two, after which the first member would build part of a ball and direct the second member to replicate it, and so on... like a collaborative or team build, but over the Internet. We could have a thread where those wanting to make a certain ship/vehicle would make a proposal and a second member (preferably someone with overflowing buckets of Star Wars LEGO who's good at building without explicit instructions, etc.) could accept... the perks about this being Star Wars is that while such an MOC would take a lot of planning regarding dimensions and such, the people over at ILM have done all the designing for us so that we need only apply our brick skills.* Sounds crazy, I know, but think of the possibilities... *The whole affair would require mutual consent so that the people providing parts won't feel like the people directing the MOC are slave drivers, and where else would you find someone with overflowing buckets of LEGO agreeing to build sections of an MOC for somebody else than on an AFOL forum? Quote
KimT Posted March 4, 2011 Author Posted March 4, 2011 That sounds like an awesome idea Fallenangel. Dunno if such a thing should be held within the Star Wars Forum or the LDD forum. If you choose to initiate this, then I'll have no issues with it being posted here in the Star Wars Forum. I guess that what I'm saying is - go for it, make a topic and see what happens along the road. A community built T47 with the lxf file to shop it directly from LEGO would be more than friggin' awesome. (or something similar) Quote
Brickdoctor Posted March 4, 2011 Posted March 4, 2011 So one person would build it virtually and the next would do it physically, correct? I'd sign up for the Virtual Team. All my good bricks are locked up in finished models or WIPs. Quote

JimBee Posted March 4, 2011 Posted March 4, 2011 I also like the banners and skins for the new blog, nice work KimT and the SW mods. Is there any chance that those cool glowy stars could make it over to the official EB Star Wars banner? Also, I remember the staff was talking about having Scouts' LSW emoticons as the default for the SW forum. Any news about that? Quote
KimT Posted March 4, 2011 Author Posted March 4, 2011 Emoticons are being worked on to my knowledge. As for the stars in the EB banner - The blue brick and yellow stars is the official EB Logo. The bluish one is made by Brickthing and inspired by the Star Wars Theme. I hope we'll be seeing that one in the Star Wars Forum soon - but probably not on EB per se. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted March 4, 2011 Posted March 4, 2011 Is there any chance that those cool glowy stars could make it over to the official EB Star Wars banner? I think that's just the standard logo, with the glow effect added in in a photo editor. I've done things like that before on Paint.NET by creating a new layer, coloring over the object in the color that I want it to glow, and Unfocus Blurring the layer with the color blobs on it. Then I tweak opacity of the layer, brightness, and contrast until it looks good. Quote

KimT Posted March 4, 2011 Author Posted March 4, 2011 Yeah I noticed that when rereading your post - my bad for misunderstanding you. The overall look of EB is constantly discussed and reflected upon. As of right now other forums are more in need of an overhaul than the Star Wars Forum, so I think it might be a little while before we get the shiny bluish stars in here. Quote
JCC1004 Posted March 5, 2011 Posted March 5, 2011 I justed noticed the repetitive LSW S@H ads on every post in the Review Index. I haven't seen anything like that before. When did EB start advertising from TLG too? I'm just curious because I haven't seen stuff like that in posts. Quote
KimT Posted March 5, 2011 Author Posted March 5, 2011 That started when I signed us up for the LEGO affiliate program. Those links can generate money for us - if you guys use them when shopping at S@H. Money that will be converted directly into prizes for contests and such. The links are being tested in some topics, but wont be cluttering the forum at all. Quote
sok117 Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 I followed the link from Fallenangels x-wing topic, you asked how the forum felt about your comment. And I think you handled the situation well KimTit's funny how little communication there actually is on the Internet, and how people can easily misunderstand each other with just words. Reminds me of a book I read, John Wyndham's the Chrysalids. Anyways, I think you handled it really well, and it's great to see that the moderators here on EB take there roles very seriously (but that doesn't mean they can't have fun as well *looks over to mafia thread* ) Quote
Matteo1130 Posted May 28, 2011 Posted May 28, 2011 Good morning, i'm mostly new in this forum, i'm more often on classic-pirates, so i hope i'm writing in the right section :) I've been a collector in original lego starwars kits since their very first appearance on the shelves, so i'm in possess of a really huge number of minifigs and vehicles (often in multiple copies). My original idea (which left by for years) was to make a tabletop wargame. now i've found some collectors friends and i'm trying again :) the question is: anyone tried the same and could share a rulebook? i've already tried with the rules on brikwars.com, funny but not really compliant with the background, so i would like to collect some tip before trying a massive conversion from the D6 RPG game. i'm asking in the admin section because maybe this could be already spoken in an old thread.. thanks for reading :) Matteo from Italy Quote
