pldeutelephonz Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 You need to start your own, using the 'Start New Topic' button under the Watto's Junkyard sub forum. thanks just one more question, it says you can use topic tags under the title and I don't know what you have to put in there? Ps where do I write (REVIEW), on the title or in the tags section? Quote

pldeutelephonz Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 Whenever I try to post a lego review it says you must post something. I have no idea what to do? sorry i'm new and have no idea how to use the threads. I even made my lego pictures smaller, and tried attaching the word file and that didn't work so I tried copying it in and it wouldn't post, I'm so disappointed. Quote

I even made my lego pictures smaller, and tried attaching the word file and that didn't work so I tried copying it in and it wouldn't post, I'm so disappointed. You'd already been discussing this here, so I'm not sure why you decided to post in a new topic. I've merged it into this one.I'm not sure I completely understand what you're saying. Using better English would help — proper capitalization and punctuation, trying to explain what's happening more descriptively, avoiding ambiguous pronouns, and so forth. (Especially if you're looking to write reviews.) We don't expect perfection, but we don't tolerate laziness. Now, based on what I gather from your post, it sounds like you tried to attach a document to a post and post that with no content in the post. You have to write something in the post; blank posts aren't very useful. You also have a size limit to your attachment space. That amount goes up as you post more and achieve higher ranks, but it still remains relatively small. EB is not intended to host files for its members; you need to find another website to host your photos, or whatever it is that you want to upload and include in your posts. Additionally, I don't think many people would read your review if you only provided it as an attachment. That's just too much clicking and waiting for it to download and open in another program. You should have all the content of your review in the post itself, just like the other reviews you see on EB. Quote
pldeutelephonz Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 I'm sorry for the perceived laziness that you spoke about. It is a hot day and my keyboard is struggling. I didn't realise that you had to acquire ranks in order to post a simple review. I was disappointed that I made the effort to register only to find that I could not post a review regardless of whether I attached a file or copy and pasted the entire review into the desired field. I appreciate your advice but I believe that it was fairly clear. I thought your or another moderators advanced knowledge of the forum would suffice. Considering you are required to acquire ranks to post more detailed and larger files, I don't think I really want to worry about a review anymore. Making the image size smaller and less detailed ruins the quality of the photos and is a detriment to a good review. So I would appreciate a less preachy tone concerning my punctuation and English. I am a new member and don't have the same experience with forums. Thankyou Brick doctor. Quote

I am a new member and don't have the same experience with forums. Thankyou Brick doctor. That's not what I said. That's only half of what I said. I said that you were only provided with a small amount of attachment space, which increased as you ranked up. I also said that that was because EB is not intended as a file hosting site for its users, that you'd have to find another website to host your photos or files on, and that you should post all the content of a review directly into the post instead of attaching it as a document.I see no reason why a keyboard can be responsible for its user's ability to compose sentences. Besides, considering the fact that this post you've now posted has plenty of correct capitalization, you clearly are capable of doing that, so the lack of such in your previous posts is laziness. pldeutelephonz Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 Well everytime I am ready to post the review the error message reads 'you have to post something' so I'm thinking there is an issue with the forum or perhaps I don't have enough ranks to post anything too detailed. Pity that the forum runs like a hierarchy where only people with ranks can post anything worthwhile. I doubt it's an issue with the forum or the rank. Can you post a screenshot of what you're trying to do? Quote
pldeutelephonz Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 I will make another attempt tomorrow and if I experience the same difficulty I will do so. Thanks ;) Quote
Mr Man Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 When you click on the button to start a new topic you are faced with 3 input boxes, topic name, tags, and the content box. in order to post a topic all must be filled in. If you have a 'no content' error perhaps the text isn't pasting properly into the content box. Try type something in there manually then past from your word document. Any images you add you should probably host on brickshelf or fliker rather than Eurobricks. For posting, rank means nothing, it only means how many photos you can directly host on EBs. Quote

pldeutelephonz Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 (edited) I can't even post a screenshot of whats going wrong. But basically everytime I try to post a review it says "You must Enter a Post" I have done exactly what you said and still get the same result. Edited January 13, 2014 by pldeutelephonz Quote
Brickdoctor Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 I can't even post a screenshot of whats going wrong. But basically everytime I try to post a review it says "You must Enter a Post" I have done exactly what you said and still get the same result. I've never seen that error before. Unless you post a screenshot, I really have no idea what you're doing. Why can't you post one? It's "PrtScrn" on Windows, which copies the image to your clipboard and then you can paste it into MS Paint or another photo editor; or Cmd+Shift+3 on Mac, which puts the screenshot on your desktop. pldeutelephonz Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 I can paste the screenshot but it then comes up with a error message that says "your post is too short'' Quote
Brickdoctor Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 Okay, can you upload the screenshot to a photo-hosting site such as flickr, Brickshelf, or Photobucket and then link to it in a post here? Quote
pldeutelephonz Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 (edited) no sorry I don't have that Edited January 13, 2014 by pldeutelephonz Quote
korpen4444 Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 no sorry I don't have that Then maybe you should make an account. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 Like I said, EB doesn't host files for its members. If you're going to write a review, you have to have an image-hosting site account anyways... Quote
Mr Man Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 no sorry I don't have that If you have a yahoo account then flicker is easy to set up. Quote
jindianajonz Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 pldeutelephonz, what people here are trying to say is that if you want to post a review with pictures (and reviews are worthless without pictures) you need to host the image files somewhere else (like the sites brickdoctor mentioned above) and then link to them here. All the reviews you see here don't actually post their pictures onto Eurobricks; they are posted onto other sites and the reviewers just use the link to have them show up in the post. This means that Eurobricks doesn't have to pay for the bandwidth of people posting these pictures. If you want to post a review, you'll almost certainly need to learn how to upload to one of those other sites. Quote
