natelite Posted April 17, 2007 Posted April 17, 2007 That was one angry kid. He was ranting about charlatans. Obviously he must felt cheated of his grades or girlfriend or something. Must have been living a very secluded life. I would just blame his parents. :-P or tv. I think hollywood has an obligation to show the real world instead of just rehashing fairy tales all the time. Yes, there are liars everywhere. Yes, sometimes liars do get the girl. :-P get over it
conductorjoe Posted April 17, 2007 Posted April 17, 2007 This thread kind of sucks. Why is everyone talking about Bush, Israel, and Darfur? We're supposed to be discussing the shooting at Virginia Tech, not another "what's wrong with the world" argument. People have been committing atrocities since the beginning of time. It's nothing new. No laws, military force, security equipment, or politicians can stop it. Banning guns would be just like Prohibition-it would still be very easy to get them, except with organized crime involved. Nothing-absolutely nothing, no power in the world save God himself came down to intervene-can always stop someone from killing another human being. There's really no way to stop this kind of thing from happening, save making humanity perfect, which we all know will never happen. There are so many factors possible here...Their childhood, parenting, friendships, social habits, religion, jobs, relationships, addictions. There will always be a reason, at least in a killer's mind, to commit a crime. As long as people harbor the ability in their mind to do something like this, it will happen. I've been watching this on the news today and yesterday. Horrible. I know someone who goes there...luckily they are okay. All the VA tech people and their families are in my prayers.
Corpreal363 Posted April 17, 2007 Author Posted April 17, 2007 Dear God People! If I wanted to talk about Israel, bush and Darfur, I would have put it in the Religeon and Politics Form, if there is any. But People, I want this thread to stay alive, and not be closed by people talking politics in a Masacer that wasn't even terrorists! Just Stay on topic People. Sorry if this sounded mean though. X-D Oh, and i'm to young to have Kids Glyman.
gylman Posted April 17, 2007 Posted April 17, 2007 When I think of this type of massacre, I imagine what I would feel like if some worthless scum killed one of my daughters like this. That's where my rage therefore comes from, and why I have absolutely zero sympathy for the murderer. Before having kids I could intellectualize the situation, but I don't think I truly understood it. We had one like this in Canada few years ago, Mark Lepine, a woman hater, who killed 14 university students, all women. It didn't hit me nearly so hard at the time because I didn't have my children yet. That's why I made the point about having kids. It's easier to "feel sorry for the poor abused / misunderstood human" at a distance.

(...)Just Stay on topic People. Sorry if this sounded mean though. X-D I would like to agree, but, ahem, Politics is the process by which groups make decisions. It is the authoritative allocation of values. Although the term is generally applied to behavior within governments, politics is observed in all human group interactions, including corporate, academic, and religious institutions.Sociology is an academic and applied discipline that studies society and human social interaction. Sociological research ranges from the analysis of short contacts between anonymous individuals on the street to the study of global social processes. The field focuses on how and why people are organized in society, either as individuals or as members of associations, groups, and institutions. how would you be able to discuss this without any political or social context? To avoid this kind of discussion all what remains IMHO is not to start such a topic ( :'-) ) or only to say how sorry we are for those families. Maybe I
gylman Posted April 17, 2007 Posted April 17, 2007 Agreed. One's world view and political bias colours the interpretation of the VTech massacre. Anti-gun advocates see it as proof that guns should be banned. Anti Gun-control advocates point out that if people had been packing on campus, he might have been stopped before he killed so many. I think personally that neither side is clearly right. While I favour the "less guns" view, I am nervous about a society where only bad guys can get guns. Anyway, as long as people are civil, and don't start ranting and raving left or right wing propaganda and hurling insults, but present calm opinions, I don't see the problem with discussion. Stuff like "why is Bush the President? when a retarded ape could be a better one?", though, is not useful. It's obviously guaranteed to start a fight. If we can't avoid that, we should avoid the discussion altogether.

I guess this would be the solution to every kind of forum and I would be very satisfied to see that this happens here but with an event so dreadful like that it would probably require the patience of angels to stay calm.... For none of us can ever express the exact measure of his needs or his thoughts or his sorrows; and human speech is like a cracked kettle on which we tap crude rhythms for bears to dance to, while we long to make music that will melt the stars.Gustave Flaubert (1821 - 1880), Charles Bovary
Starwars4J Posted April 17, 2007 Posted April 17, 2007 Listen everyone. You're all entitled to your opinions, and I hope we can all respect each other's opinions, but there are some things that debating never solved. And I'm afraid this is leading into that area of senseless arguing, flared tempers, and people getting riled up. We can and should mourn and pray for the lives of those students lost. There were even some acts of heroism, such as that WWII survivor who died while buying some time for his students to get out. Arguing like this...it isn't very respectful to any of their memories. I prayed for them, and I hope you have too. That's all any of us can really do right now. So I'm going to close this to prevent more anger, and I urge anyone who believes in a higher power to pray for those lost. Even if you don't believe, it couldn't hurt :-)
