Book 2 Challenge 1C

As the Civil War in Noturnus escalates, recruiting new troops has become increasingly important. The Raven brothers Rokkar and Korrak discuss their options...

Korrak: "I think it's time to call upon our old friend, Lilura. With all the recent death and destruction throughout Nocturnus, she could greatly aide the Black Spire."

Rokkar: Rokkar looked at his brother warily. "The witch? Hmm, yes, I agree. With her unique set of skills she would undoubtedly be the nail in the coffin for those foolish enough to still be loyal to Nocturnus."

Korrak: "It is settled. If I travel alone and leave tonight I can be at Kuldum within a few days."

Rokkar: "If you're sure we can trust her..." He let out an audible sigh. "Very well, travel safely and quickly brother, and be on your guard. Lilura may be a friend, but she is still very dangerous."

Korrak: A grin spread across Korrak's face. "I'm counting on it."

A few days later Korrak got his first look at Kuldum, an extremely old fortress nestled atop a rocky ledge overlooking the Moruth Swamplands. He smiled to himself, "It's been too long." The fortress looked even more run down than he remembered.

Korrak made his way down into the swamp. When he finally reached the door a bit of doubt crept into his mind, "was she still here? Was she even alive?" When he knocked on the door it swung open, inviting him inside.

He cautiously entered and made his way through the fortress to the inner courtyard. The ruins were littered with skeletons. It was clear that a great battle had taken place here. "Maybe she had died in an elemental attack?" Korrak thought to himself.

Just when he was beginning to lose hope an elf and three tiny Cyclops appeared in front of him.

Lilura: "I knew you would come." She said with a small smirk. "Before you ask, yes, I will help your cause. It's time we put an end to this war"

Korrak: "Excellent! You still look as beautiful as ever." He smiled at her, but then a small frown ruffled the feathers on his brow. He looked questioningly at the three small Cyclops. "Do you have any more soldiers? I was under the impression an entire tribe of Cyclops lived here."

Lilura: "That tribe moved south after the elemental attack decimated all of Historica." She started laughing. "I can however provide you with a different kind of army" She then began chanting in elvish, "o mor henion i dhu..."

The ground began to tremble. Her face no longer looked beautiful. Korrak stared at her fearfully, "Have you... no! How can this be?" The wind was swirling and whipping at his face, threatening to blow him over. "You're a necromancer!" He exclaimed. "I had no idea..."

The skeletons all around him began to rise from the dirt and slowly rally to Lilura. "Yes, it's no something I like to share, but it has its uses." She said with an evil smile. "Is that a problem"

"No," said korrak as a huge grin spread across his face. "This is perfect."

It is a bit of a pain when the dead get back up to fight - I'm sure we (loyal Nocturnians) can handle it though . I'm a big fan of your building style - not too many colours, but with the plate layering technique, and amazing amount of texturing, you achieve a very beautiful effect. This style really allows light and shadow to bring out the details. (Oh, and good story to!)

great entry.... lovely colour combination... nice!!

Very nice MOCs! You did an awesome job on them and we really can see the effort you put in it (especially on the detailed walls). This surely is one of my favourite entries for this challenge!

That first shot is incredible! Brilliant work! Nice cyclops figs too, and story!

As Emma says, we loyal Nocturnians can handle it- I'm well used to the undead, and my Necromancer, Krell is a direct descendant of the First Necromancer.

frickin awesome...

Wonderful entry, great job! My favourite picture here is the first one with the ruined castle slightly out of focus. Good job with the color scheme and the overall design, I think the sloping ground in front of the ruin might just be the best example from you of that great technique, it really adds extra realism in a good way.

Excellent photography as well :classic:

Your landscape style is incredible  Amazing FP with the ruined fortress as well. I'm quite impressed that you built an entry for every category :classic:

Thanks GIdeon! I've been trying to further my use of that technique, I think its got some great potential. I've also been working on my photography, its nice to be complemented on it!

Thanks SK! Entering all cats was pretty time consuming, but tons of fun!

Incredible Torgar! Love the fortress, reminds me a lot of Dol Guldor with the gates and bridge! Great story! Nice job! :classic::thumbup:

Great work   I love the ruins, inspired by Lord of the Rings or the Hobbit?

and we have our winner! black spires gonna rock this party!

*huh*

Unbelievable. What didn't you do in this challenge? You've got giant brick-built beasts, forced perspective, an epic tower, some fantastic landscaping, a great micro-ish castle, and a story that I actually read! Can you pass around that bottle of awesomesause you've been using on food? The rest of us want a taste. :moar:

Oh, and I'm with LD on that 'winner' thing.

Wow thanks! With all the MOCing I've been doing I havent been able to find time to build any of the sets I recieved for Christmas. It has not been easy to resist!

+1

(Midiscale was almost a more suitable category :P)

+1 UoP. Great job, especially with the landscaping and FP. Wow was my first thought...

Awesome rockwork and of course the forced perspective build is most likely the best of its kind, at least of the ones I've seen so far!

Beautiful job on the layered walls and the FP! The color scheme looks really nice here!

That first photo is just brilliant! I love it! How long did it take to get that great shot!?

The mocs are as always just beautiful! Great work!

Same as de Gothia: I love the first image! This time your technique for the rocks really works even though I would try to use some cheese or some tiles to get rid of the studs sticking out at the bottom. You're castle structures are both great!

Nice story!

This is great! The builds are amazing! I love all of them! You sir are talented! Beautiful work! For the Black Spire! :D

Thanks DG, it took me a few trys to get the distance between the path and the castle in the first shot. They are seperated by about 3 ft (0.9m).

Great story Torgar! The rockwork and vines are really nice. Crush those Nocturnus scum .

This is a beautiful build. The opening shot with the tower of the background out of focus is a great bit of photography.
