February 17, 201411 yr @Faefrost: The question is not why TLG intends to release the sets in December but rather why they postponed them From a marketing standpoint, you're right, but why did they even consider the earlier release date? And why did they decide to push back the release date merely 3 weeks after they announced said earlier date at the London Toy Fair? None of this makes a shred of sense
February 18, 201411 yr @Faefrost: The question is not why TLG intends to release the sets in December but rather why they postponed them From a marketing standpoint, you're right, but why did they even consider the earlier release date? And why did they decide to push back the release date merely 3 weeks after they announced said earlier date at the London Toy Fair? None of this makes a shred of sense I would think the original summer release for the film had something to do with things? Why they had the sets for October instead of July when the movie was going to be released is anyone's guess though. I agree, having the sets listed as an October release at the London Toy Fair then changing it not even three weeks later for NYTF was really odd. Why would they make a last minute change like that? Shouldn't that have been made MUCH sooner? Maybe the LTF just had old, incorrect dates listed or something?
February 18, 201411 yr I didn't look at the actual stated release dates at either toy fair. But I did notice that the signs at NYT's seem to be more weighted to us info. Ie pricing only in usd. So could it be that they are expected to hit the UK in October and US in December? That's not an unusual timing?
February 18, 201411 yr They may have gotten the previous Hobbit sets out a little too soon with regard to the movies and this can hurt sales momentum. Inside of 30 days is really where they want to be. Where I live in the US, the sets did not appear until December, which was just short of the movie. If you wanted to get Lego Hobbit sets for someone as a Christmas gift, you had about 1-2 weeks to do it if you could find the sets. When it was announced that Hobbit sets would appear in October, I was puzzled because Lego had not previously released them so soon. On the bright side, perhaps this gives Lego more time to "get it right" and not have Yazneg lead the orc armies
February 18, 201411 yr So could it be that they are expected to hit the UK in October and US in December? That's not an unusual timing? I don't think so. I just checked Brickset and so far the past two Hobbit waves have hit both areas within a day of each other.
February 18, 201411 yr LOTR wave 2 came out a lot later in the UK than the US Ya, Brickset says they came out July 27th in the UK but June 7th in the US, over a month and a half sooner. However, for all the Hobbit waves they were released within a day of each other in both regions and were near the movie release so I don't see why Lego would change things for the last wave?
February 18, 201411 yr I imagine TLG was wanting to get the sets out sooner than December to give people more time to buy before Christmas. But maybe after seeing the sales figures, which can be assume were good, decided to go with the December release again. And just because the change was announced in New York doesn't mean that the relevant people didn't already know. Plus the fact this is only February so a change for the end of the year isn't going to be very important to retailers. If anything it'll just allow them to use November sales to clear their shelves of wave 2. Frankly there could be all sorts of reasons for the change many of which we will never know. At this point two months isn't a big deal and gives me more time this year to buy OT Star Wars sets. If anything I am much more interested in next years possible releases.
February 18, 201411 yr This info just came around, the Legolas polybag will come with the "Special Edition ‘Steelbook’ Blu-ray" version of the DoS!
February 18, 201411 yr Phew, what a relief I was afraid we'd have another Market Bilbo situation on our hands
February 19, 201411 yr This is a perfect fit. It is a minifig that i don't need but I am still glad that they continued that promotion. Imagine how it could expand the popularity of the sets. Imagine if LEGO did this for other licensed tie-ins such as Thor Dark World Blue-Ray with a related minifig.
February 19, 201411 yr Author That's a cool promo. It won't get anybody worked up, but it's necessary for completionists to get the DVD. Nice move, TLG.
February 19, 201411 yr Welllllll.... Looks like for the second year in a row I won't be keeping my promise to not buy Hobbit until the EE boxset comes out....
February 19, 201411 yr Was going to try and hold out for the Extended Edition, however now I'll be sure to pick this up first. I wonder if this will be an exclusive like the one with the special Bilbo minifig that came with The Hobbit Blu-Ray which Target offered in the US? Edited February 19, 201411 yr by mrfootball
February 19, 201411 yr This is the same Legolas that the one we get here in Europe right ? yeah theres nothing new about the minifig or the polybag.
February 19, 201411 yr I will probably just try to get the polybag alone off eBay for a reasonable price. If not, all well. I can easily live without this poly as it contains nothing at all new. No new print or anything.

February 19, 201411 yr I know this doesn't really belong here, but am I the only one who really hates the fact that the two characters who shouldn't be in the movies made the cover???
February 19, 201411 yr I know this doesn't really belong here, but am I the only one who really hates the fact that the two characters who shouldn't be in the movies made the cover??? I dont see a problem with it, there are ALOT of diferent covers for these movies. And why shouldnt they be in the movie? If they sold the hobbit book with those on the cover there would be a problem.
February 19, 201411 yr I know this doesn't really belong here, but am I the only one who really hates the fact that the two characters who shouldn't be in the movies made the cover??? I did think the same thing but they are a big part of the film so......
February 19, 201411 yr It does seem a little odd to have rather minor characters on the cover, especially when one was never in the Hobbit book and the other was never even in any of Tolkien's work. You would think they would of picked some of the dwarves or maybe Smaug? All well, I guess they figure people love themselves some elves.
February 19, 201411 yr I know this doesn't really belong here, but am I the only one who really hates the fact that the two characters who shouldn't be in the movies made the cover??? Lol you read my mind.
