Ql97 Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 (edited) I especially love the exclusive new moulded orc hair! That was an unnecessary yet very kind more of LEGO! Kind?! The word is use is 'cruel.' So cruel to give us a beautiful new part when it could have been one for Bold, Eowyn, Witch-King etc. Although, I try to be optimistic about any Middle Earth Lego we get, even if it's a new mold for orc hair. Steph 104th Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 Thanks just2good for the images, really can't wait for these sets now. Quote
kevkipo Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 Thanks Pal, great review as always. Very interested in this set Quote
Alcarin Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 The problem is those hairpieces (new ones on Orcs) looks absolutely FUGLY..... could not make a worse choice period! Quote
Blazej_Holen Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 On a contrary they are fabulous.. Whats "fugly"? Means fu*king ugly??? ;) Quote
deskp Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 The problem is those hairpieces (new ones on Orcs) looks absolutely FUGLY..... could not make a worse choice period! I think they are fantastic! Quote
Mr. Cube Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 Me too...+ you can easily use them for any other minifigure, because they have no ears. I´m glad that they made new hairpieces! Quote
AFOLguy1970 Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 The problem is those hairpieces (new ones on Orcs) looks absolutely FUGLY..... could not make a worse choice period! Indeed they are ugly, but that is the whole point. Orcs are supposed to be ugly. Ugly, yes, but appropriate in this setting. Quote

Steph 104th Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 The more horrendous the Orc looks means Lego has achieved their goal. They are meant to be ugly and inhuman (no Marvel referance implied). Quote
Blazej_Holen Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 (edited) Is there any chance to get review for Bofa set? :) Lake Town add on is really nice, but it requires some modding. 1st si necessary to complete Tower roof (I really hate that back side is missing) 2nd the small build on the other side of the Tower needs to be little bit expanded (but maintain main funcion) and maybe it deserves a little green plate as a roof as well. In general, its a really good ad on , So I am decided to buy it twice or three times, for Orcs figs, pieces and Tauriel´s body which I can use for other elves, maybe for a new Legolas version :), Also Bain´s body could be used for villagers (same as Thorin´s form LTC set) I am working on Two other builds from Lake Town (one is fishing hut and other one is Bards House) Those builds will be in a spirit of regular sets, each around 350-500pcs max. so My "setish" Lake Town will be apropriete. Maybe I will decide to build Masters house as well, but I have not so much tie to design it with satisfaction :) Edited September 25, 2014 by Blazej_Holen Quote
narbilu Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 I think the hairpiece will appear in a lot of MOC's the coming months Quote
Alfadas Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 Am I the only one around here that doesn't understand why the orcs in Lake Town set have Saruman's hand on their face and just thinks they are very weird? I don't understand why they have a weird haircut. What's wrong with the old one? Anyway, enough ranting. The other parts of the set are nice, but the tower is too low. Quote

Its not Sarumans Hand, its the same printing which is on Gundabad Orc as well. Hairpiece is acurate acording to the movie design. And Tower is ...Lego Towers beside Orthanc are too low in general. You can easily make it higher. :) Quote
Alfadas Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 Gundabad orcs dont have a hand on their face, just a few white lines. This is an actual hand. Hairpiece might grow on me, but I like the "old" one better. Yeah, for the tower, just buy two Lake town sets and you are good to go :D Quote

If you look at just2good's higher rez version of the picture you will see it better. It sorta resembles an upside down hand, but the palm is way to fat, there are extra spots on each side of the palm, and there is no thumb (if it were a hand it would be making the Vulcan salute with a finger coming out the middle and no thumb, lol?). At any rate I think the hair on the orcs is nice, and a new face print is good for diversity, but I am not sure why Lego insists on giving us such specialized new molds and prints when there are so many better options. A new orc helmet and print on the Mordor Orcs used in four or five other sets would have been a MUCH better use of resources than a new face print and specialized hair that will only appear in one set. Steph 104th Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 After seeing the BOTFA trailer again I came to think, instead of the Orc hairpiece mold we could have gotten an Ironhills Dwarf helmet and Ram. We can only dream. Quote
Dr.Cogg Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 It's kind of funny Lego gave us two characters we wanted ,but the wrong versions: we wanted this (Awesome Figure requires 2 molds) and we got this we wanted this (another awesome figure requires 1 mold) and we got this At least Twilight Witch King still looks cool compared to the Necromancer of Dol Guldur. just2good Posted September 25, 2014 Author Posted September 25, 2014 Thanks for all the feedback y'all. I do have the $60 one on hand, and I will have a review/pics up today or tomorrow afternoon. Quote
Steph 104th Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 Can't wait, @Dr.Cogg those are very good examples, Sauron's mace would be perfect for Azog. Quote
Anexcuse Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 Sorry to bother, but what sets do you think are a "must buy" or are the best in this upcoming wave? I'm getting An Unexpected Gathering soon and would like to know what other sets would be best to buy before the line ends. :P Thanks! Quote

BrickBob Studpants Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 (edited) Kind?! The word is use is 'cruel.' So cruel to give us a beautiful new part when it could have been one for Bold, Eowyn, Witch-King etc. I don't think it's cruel since Bolg was probably scrapped to due late design changes and not because the new Orc hair mould had higher priority As for Eowyn and the Witch-King: TLG tends to separate the two Middle-Earth themes and the same presumably goes for the respective mould budgets In conclusion, an omission of the new hair mould wouldn't have guaranteed us either of these characters, so it is indeed kind of TLG to give us new Orcs with a new exclusive hairpiece Edited September 25, 2014 by Lego-Freak Quote
