SMC, actually there is one credible in universe explanation for the difference. The Hobbit is a story that Bilbo is telling. He is an unreliable narrator.

This actually true to the books too. When Tolkien wrote The Hobbit, the first edition has Gollum willingly handing over the magic ring. When his publisher convinced Tolkien to write a follow up work, Tolkien rewrote the Riddles in the Dark chapter since the magic ring becomes the One Ring, Gollum would not willing hand over the ring. Tolkien also has Bilbo recount how he got the ring to The Council of Elrond in the Fellowship with an apology if they heard the story differently before.

It is also truthful for Peter Jackson's films as The Fellowship of the Ring shows Bilbo stumbling in the dark and finding the ring (matches the later editions of the Book) but the first Hobbit film has him catching it on his finger.

Bilbo continues to embellish his story with each retelling.

That is how I like to think of it, and it is also something I hope PJ will show at the end of The Hobbit.

What would be better than a scene like this to showcase that AND to explain the beginning of the first LOTR film:

As the stoy ends, everything goes back to old Bilbo and his book, where he says something like "No, no, this is not it.." and decides to rip out the pages and start all over again.

That is what would explain why Bilbo had only just started to write the book at the beginning of Fellowship of the Ring, and why the new version of the book (which he shows to Frodo in Rivendell)

seems to show very different depictions of the swords from The Hobbit.

To me, that would be the best thing PJ can do for the ending at this point. Show that it was all one version of the book, so that everything makes sense again in-universe.

And Bilbo, just having written an entire story and deciding to start all over again, would of course have forgotten where Frodo had gone off to.

Who is he to remember that at his old age while having just written an entire book?

Just wanted to note that Dwalin's beard is also compatible with the Gimli helmet. It's the one they use for the "Armored Dwarf Guard" in the video game and it works IRL too. (however the chest-plate piece could never fit under that beard like it does in the game).

As does the CMF Evil Dwarf beard.

I highly doubt they will create rams for one set. The wargs at least were able to be used multiple times among all of Middle Earth. The ram will be used for this movie and nothing else (most likely).

Another reason the Erebor set should be Bo5A based, the $30 set should be a Bo5A army builder, and the $60 set should be Lake-town with Smaug. Lego could of made a ram and had it in the Erebor AND the army builder set then (not sure where Beorn would go in bear form though...)

If we do end up getting an Iron Hills Dwarf, I'm fairly confident that one of the previously mentioned beards would be put into action. However, Dain II may have a new hair/beard mold, depending on what he looks like...I'm rather shocked that we haven't seen anything at all of him in the past few years beyond some Billy Connolly interviews..

Don't be shocked, each year they keep 1 character secret as long as they can. AUJ: Radagast, DOS: Beorn, BO5A: Dain.

Oh. I thought we were talking about the movie itself

Oh yes sorry, you're right about that.. I think that we can link the lack of Azog info to the constant changes in his design. I don't think the final design was until rather late in the production of AUJ, which is why we get Yazneg instead of Azog in the Warg Attack set

I am so glad they changed his design. I was never a huge fan of Yazneg.

II don't mind the character, but if that were the final Azog then I think I'd have a problem. The lego minifigure is nice for providing contrast in my Orc army, however. I'd much rather take a Bolg fig though

Fingers crossed Bolg will be in one of the new sets

Yes :) Returning to an older topic, I think he's more likely in the BOFA or Laketown. I do trust that TLG sees the use in a Bolg figure, but the problem is finding a spot for him. Those sets seem packed with figs already...

I really hope he's in the Laketown set with Bard, Bain and Legolas. So you can recreate that epic fight scene Edited by azog15

That's actually not an unreasonable array of characters to expect. However, if there's to be a new Legolas, I'd very much prefer new decals, as his current costume differs from any that we have so far. I'd be fine with the video game Bolg.. I can understand why people dislike the design, but I don't find it to be too horrible. SDCC Bard and deskp's suggestions on revising the videogame Bain would be great IMO. The smaller mini fig amount would allow for a bit more buildings, so I'd actually be rather pleased with getting only those four figs.

@Shuebmabow: It's a 30$ non- army builder set and thus it's not expected to include more than four minifigs anyway  I like the videogame version of Bolg as well, they should just get rid of the red printing beneath the mouth though

Indeed. Legolas's casual outfit in The hobbit is very unlike his previous ones. He has a darker green on the top, the silver undershirt shows through more, he has no broach as he has no cape, his legs are dark green with brown boots, the detailing and ridging on the top is different and the strap across his check which supports his quiver is straighter and different. Plus Lego could either give him dark green arms or gun metal to go with his armoured cuffs on his wrists. There is perfectly enough cause for a casual legolas figure. Personally in the laketown tower I hope for Bard (blue), Bain, Tauriel (casual garb), bolg and legolas (casual garb). So the set is the tower as far as we know and for £34.99 which it apparently is over here maybe they could include the bridge that legolas fights orcs on and that's how you connect it to the other laketown bits. That'd be good.

The red on the chin stood out a little too much, but other than that I love the fig

A new Tauriel seems likely if we get the fifth fig, as she will probably be a big character in the BOFA movie. I also like the concept of the bridge connecting the buildings. I doubt it, but do you think we might get a horse for Legolas and a warg for Bolg?

That would be great if we got that, i think in the laketown set we will see Bard (dark blue variation), Bain, Tauriel (green variation), and Bolg.

Sounds reasonable  From what we can gather, the set probably depicts the scene where Bard loads the windlance with his black arrow, even though the tower said weapon is standing on top of apparently is not the same thing as the Belltower  Additionally, the fight scene from DoS might be involved as well. Either way, a bad guy is needed for this set and Bolg would be a perfect fit  Of course, there are antagonistic Laketown residents, but that wouldn't make much sense in the context of this set unless the Master and Alfrid are still opposed to Bard despite him trying to get rid of a furious dragon that destroys their precious town
