Is there any chance that Galadriel has a new dress shape? The picture on the back of the box looks a but like her dress also protrudes to the front and not only to the back.

No chanse, its just the printed grey "webbing" that makes aprt of the slope mesh with the background.

I doubt it. Probably just a regular slope, a cape and a bit of artist license in the box art.

Wow, thanks for the pictures!

The builds will be fun, but some of the minifigures bother me:

* Why make a new Orc hair piece? Instead, they could have spent the mold money on Bolg's hair piece. Combine that with recolored Gundabad Orc shoulder armor, and we could have had all the parts needed for a decent Bolg.

* Why does the Twilight Witchking have gloves? The hands should match the face color. I would have liked glow in the dark hands. Swapping in white hands is close enough, I guess.

The new orc hairpiece would make a great Ragnar Lothbrok (viking tv series) hairpiece. Just a random thought. Still don't like it much. Would have loved it to see a new orc helmet.

Oh man, I'm so disappointed I registered to throw in my opinion.

Do you guys realize that the eagles were not even one of the five armies? The five armies were humans, elves and dwarves on the good side and orcs and WARGS on the bad side. Now we got plenty of wargs already, but the slot for the eagle would have been filled so much better with old mold bear + new print as Beorn.

Armoured Thorin and Dain are quite well executed I guess, and the reuse of Azog is understandable. But Legolas, the orcs, the eagle? Rubbish! At least one of the orcs seems to have a new face print, but no generic soldiers for elves and dwarves??? I don't get it.

Laketown... pah, except for Tauriel the set isn't interesting. SDCC Bard should have been in here, along with Bolg instead of 2 generic orcs. And Bain's hair? No Go! Deskp did a great comparison with Luke Skywalker's hair, that would fit so much better.

The only set I'll definitively get is Witch King Battle (the title is ironic, isn't it?). 3 exclusive minifigures for like 15$/15€, that's quite a nice deal, considering that one could easily use Elrond's armour for an army builder purpose. I like the fact that Galadriel's hair is pearl gold like the elven sword, although the mold does not represent her actual hair. Deskp did a nice comparison on that one, too. Arwen's hair mold or a completely new one would have been so much better. But I guess that is, considering the rest of the wave, a detail least worth bothering about.

TLG, I hope you knock it off with some nice polybags, CMF Series or whatever. If that is how the theme is ending... poor!

That crown Thorin is wearing is identical to the crown that Thror wears in the first Hobbit movie, right? Based on that, I would have changed the minifigure line up for the Smaug set. Right now we get five minifigures: Bilbo and four members of Thorin's Company in colorful garb. I would have made the line up:

1. Bilbo (the one we're getting)

2. Thror (use the new Thorin headgear with the crown, but change hair color; instead of new orc headgear, make Thror's beard)

3 and 4. x2 Dwarf Soldiers (just recolor Gimli's helmet in pearl gray, or another color)

5. ? (maybe flashback Balin, with a recolored beard?)

That would have made the playset much more fun. Then you could use the mine section with Bilbo and Smaug to recreate the scenes from the second Hobbit movie, and the throne room section could be used for Thror, the Dwarf Soldiers, and Smaug to recreate the scenes from the first Hobbit movie.

The Eagles played a fairly important role though. And they got there before Beorn, didn't they?

Plus the important thing is how it is portrayed in the PJ film, as that is what the set is based on.

You are indeed right, but I stated it was a personal opinion :)

I think the eagle is not essential enough to be included only because it saves the day at the end of the battle + we already got the opportunity to get an eagle in 2 sets. And since BOTFA is no army builder, an orginal Beorn wouldn't bother anyone since noone to few will get that set twice. The way the set now is, I'll bricklink Thorin, Dain and Azog, and that's it.

Personally, I'm fine with the eagle (especially when it's in dk brown instead of reddish brown, but that's quite hard to tell). The lack of bear Beorn and generic soldiers also doesn't bother me too much, but what really annoys me is the lack of Bolg :hmpf_bad: Hopefully we'll get him as a s@h promo or something :sweet: Obviously it couldn't be the videogame version (due to the new mould) but they could reuse Azog's head with different printing as a lot of people suggested before the videogame came along... Who am I kidding, that's not going to happen :sadnew: Let's just pretend this is Bolg:

Here is my opinion on the sets:

Witch-King Battle

Despite being the smallest, this is easily the best set of the wave, because it's basically what we were all expecting: Elrond, Galadriel, the Witch-King, and a bit of background scenery. What more could we ask for?

Lake-Town Battle

Five minifigures in a $30 set, and it's not even an army builder? I haven't seen such a deal since the Stagecoach Escape set! That being said, the choices they made with this set are kind of odd: we get the same old Bard as the Lake-Town Chase set, so people who want to expand their Lake-Town with this set will get two Bards with the same printing. They should have put the Bo5A Bard here instead. The new orc hairpieces are just a waste of a mold; why couldn't they make a Bolg headpiece instead? And did Bain even wear an eyepatch in the movie?

Battle of the Five Armies

Before these images were released, the biggest topic of conversation in this topic was which figures we'd get in the Bo5A set. Now they've finally been revealed and it turns out we should have just saved our breath. These are the figures we'll get:

Thorin in Crown (woo-hoo!), Dain (yippee!), Legolas (wait, what?), Bard (aw, come on!), Azog (he's alright, I guess), orcs (no Bolg?), Great Eagle (huh? Where's Beorn?).

They could have replaced Legolas, Bard, and the Great Eagle with Thranduil, a generic dwarf soldier, and Beorn, and everybody would be happy. Instead, we get this arrangement. Not even taking the lacklustre build into account, this is easily the worst set of the wave, perhaps even the entire theme.

Where do you see an Eye-Patch?

Some of you are speaking about Azog with a new facial expression but (I might be wrong) I see this Azog in the new 'The Battle of the Five Armies' set to be pretty the same as the one we had in the Dol Guldur set of the last wave.

Why would they put the Bo5A Bard in this set? It would still be another Bard, just in different clothes - the wrong clothes for the scene.

There would also be people complaining that we have already got Thranduil, and this is just another version. Legolas is there because he sells sets. Not everyone gets every set.

It's hard to see, it could be shadow. Or maybe Smaug did some damage?

It is a shadow, from the flick of hair in that hairpiece.

I actually like all the sets except the 'Battle of the 5 Armies'. + the fact that there isn't a Bolg (I wouldn't mind getting him without the metalheaded print like Nebula).

Maybe I just had lower expectations than most but I don't find this final Hobbit line to be quite the atrocity that many of you do.

On my wish list I was hoping for in this order: Erebor set, Dain Ironfoot, Iron Hills dwarf soldier, armored Elrond, and a battle boar/ram mold. It would have been nice to get the war chariot in the BoT5A set (I know it wouldn't belong there but that never stopped Lego before, right?)

Getting 3 out of 5 isn't too hateful. I really like what they did with Erebor and Dain's helmet may be the best mold out of a line with amazing hair and helmet pieces.

Could we have done with one less Bard? Sure. And should Legolas have been replaced with an Iron Hills soldier? Probably. But when we consider that most of us never thought we would get a Tolken based line of Lego sets, we really are very lucky to get any of these locations and characters at all. Especially how detailed and well done the figures have been.

I myself will buy them all up, with extras for my boys when they get older, because it is obvious that this excellent line is at an end. And if I have learned anything from not picking up the original Batcave or the last version of Hogwarts, when they are gone they are gone and you will have to pay out the nose to get them when you change your mind later.

Tauriel is in the Lake-town set, and I totally expected her to get scorched by Smaug. The big dragon has to kill at least one character of importance, right? And Tauriel, as a fan-fiction addition could be easily taken out without consequence for the story. However, the trailer suggests that she survives Smaug's attack and Smaug might go down as one of the most whimsical movie dragon of all time. After what he has shown in Desolation of Smaug, I would expect Fuchur kicking his scaly bum.

My money is on some type of romantic death involving Kili at BOFA which will really leave Legolas disgusted. It will explain why it is such a miracle that he could ever become friends with a dwarf. Seeing both PJ and Lego's love for LEGOlas, I wonder if Legolas himself does not finish off Smaug, Bolg, Azog, and the Necromancer singlehandedly with his surfer/ninja/jedi tricks.

Maybe this is what PJ has in mind:

On a Lego related note, who else thinks that Dain's helmet is going to be very lucrative on Bricklink? That and the Smaug assembly will probably command a high price.

So now after some while I just accept these fnew looking sets, and on the other hand I have to admit that whe get new dwarven helmet mold (as we wished), we get Thorin in armour and Crown (as we wished) even when he has no breastplate (which doesent fit well with those hairpiece), we get new Bard, and Tauriel in casual Attire. Then we get brand new Whitch King with new crown mold, Galadriel and armored Elrond and all togehter in cheapest set, so that could be perfect way how to collect armored torsos for elven soldiers, and all nine Twilight nazguls...(some can be mocced with white hairpiece etc). Not every wish come true, I assume that TLG had problems to create Bolg minifig with dignity, which he deserves, so they replaced him with Azog who is one of the main evil characters. We already have Beorn, so there is no need to have him once again, even that there is no bear form for him. Also we miss regular soldiers but, TLG is focused on characters rather then regular grunts. And Its understandable that they give us eagle rather than new War pig or Ram. Its pricey and this set up makes sets (BOFa) more universal for exampe for kids who doesent have every set. So they can recreate battle (or fight) with all main characters.

I am sad with the resul how these sets look like especially when I look on th older sets from the line. there was so much potencial but this is something we all know. So be happy for what we get. Mocers can easily makes this set up properly, and collectors can easily mod the sets. Howk!
